Just watching Match of the Day and have to say not for the first time but the first time on this board that one if not the most underated player to ever play the game is Ryan Giggs, I've never understood the hype about Beckham wneh he played on the same team as Giggs who could do the same as Beckham and more.

Whoever made the decision in the English FA not to get Giggs to play for England imo needs shooting.

I dont think he would offend very easily.

And, if he was, instead of disappearing he would the person.

Bloody frustrating wasn’t it? I went to Lords to cheer the lads on to glory, but it wasn’t to be. It is days like this where we really miss the likes of Hegg and Austin. We still bat as deep on paper, but those two always seemed to pull it out on the big occasion. Bang goes our best hope of silverware this year... I’m assuming even if we can handle our tough fixtures we’ll suffer our usual weather problems in September which will cost us the championship.

On the subject explain the Murali signing to me... this is the Murali who India left out of the thirty man initial selection for the champions trophy “because (Murali) needed more time to recover from his shoulder injuries”. Not going to be fit enough for India in October, but we think he is fit enough to play for us in possible Championship deciders? He didn’t look too bad turning his arm over today, but can he handle four day games?

Oh well, on the bright side Bromley won in my absence, breaking down the 11 man behind the ball Ramsgate, so that is 7 points in the opening week.

That would be no one then Giggs was never eligible to play for England. People keep making that mistake on the grounds of his schoolboy games for England, but schoolboy ‘nationality’ is based purely on residency.

Yeah born in Wales with Welsh parents and Grandparents so only able to play for Wales but he had lived in England since he was 7 so could he not have claimed English residency at the age of 12 or older, 5 years isn't it ?

Or does it not apply to someone who already as a British passport, after all both UEFA & FIFA consider England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland as seperate that being one of the reason's the different FA's aren't happy about a combined team as they think it could leed to them losing their 4 vote's.

There is no such thing as English residency, merely British. You are right in stating he - as indeed anyone from the home nations or Ireland - is automatically eligible for any of the UK sides on a purely technical level, but we avoid it to protect our unique status. More to the point the FA have always taken a stance of English only for the national team, and have never contemplated anyone who qualified on residency grounds alone.

So on a technical level they could have picked Giggs, so the FA dropped the ball. The FA will always mess up as all their bothered about is the power they have that's why they never even considered Clough for the England job or O'Neill this time.

Hardly. The technical possibility doesn't make it remotely possible. Even if you wanted to suggest it isn't a sporting absurdity the costs would have been far higher than the benefit of ditching Sinton.

We claim England is a seperate nation. The FA can't play it both ways. If they start making call ups based on UK nationality they will cease to exist within months, and we'll certainly lose our power on the IFAB.

That's what I'm saying if FIFA & UEFA recognises the British teams as seperate then no matter if there isn't or is such a thing as an English, Scotch or whatever passport as far as football is concerned they recognise each country as seperate and thus surely England could have used this rule and claimed Giggs.

Fulham dominated Sheff Utd today and got another goal from Jimmy Bullard on a 28 yard free kick.

Of course, this is a game they should have won, so we'll see what they're made of when they go to Newcastle and Chelsea in their next 2 games. I expect something like 1-6 combined and 0 points, of course.

Don't be surprised if it's Bullards last goal from a free kick this season, at Wigan his free kick rate was very poor.

Way to boost his confidence there, UKHS.

Until they play at Hyde on Monday - then they'll be back in the "L" column.

I think not my cynical friend. They will beat Hyde 2-1. Mark my words.

bababui, did you see this bit about your favourite player from yesterday's win over DC?

Quote:
After the Galaxy went ahead 4-2 in the second half through an own goal that was created by Donovan, he went towards the United fans and beat his chest, seeming to ask for more of the United faithful's verbal punishment they had been raining down on him all game.

Perhaps, too, the emotion that spilled from Donovan was directed at not just the fans, but all those who have recently doubted his ability or will to dominate MLS competition.

"The D.C. supporters are always a little rude. If they want to keep motivating me that way, I'll put four in on them next time," Donovan said.

It is because India don't care, and don't really want to play in the Champions Trophy, so are probably more willing for him to play regularly for Lancashire to get fully fit for their trip to South Africa.
