But, taking a look at the Cubbies roster, he isn't in their lineup!! What gives? If you don't want him, send him to me! |

Hm, just looking around the league, taking note of my ancestors, and saw a few things.
Morris has had an 8 in contact with a 9 talent rating for 2 years now. metsgeek, in Spring Training, why not max out that contact and forget about the power. 5 HR in three years...I don't sense a Brady Anderson coming. But, he is just 24 years old, and already has 496 hits. If he stays healthy, looks like he might have a shot at 3,000 or more. He doesn't walk much, so he should have plenty of shots at it. Joe Lutske is back! Missed three years in that damn war. Finally he is back with the Braves, though not without a substantial hit to the talent rating. Hopefully he can salvage something of a career. The little heralded Ben Lutske actually has more hits than Morris, 523 to 496, and is a year younger! Ben, though, became a regular starter at 20 on a crippled Cubs team, so he had a big head start. He doesn't have the contact numbers that Morris has (career averages are .340 for Morris and .278 for Ben) but Ben gets a ton of at bats. If I'm not mistaken, his 686 AB last year are the TWB record. Maybe a Pete Rose situation: ton of hits, ton of AB, average BA. As for the Sennelnekoffs...well, we'll see. They don't look too promising, though. Ok, Off I go to work! |

You said earlier you see Morris as a Rogers Hornsby. I don't see that, simply because Morris lacks the power and run production. I'm looking more in the Heinie Manush/Charlie Gherenger area. Still great though. |

April 15, 1947
The White Sox jumped out to an early AL lead. Washington, just 1 game back, is the only other AL team with a winning record. Cleveland made history on April 2nd when Al Jackson became the first black man to play in a major league game. He went 0-for-2 with 2 walks in a 6-1 Indians win, but on the following night, Jackson went 2-for-4 with an RBI, collecting his first major league hit off Jack Andrade. Jackson's first games outside of Cleveland were on April 5-7 in Boston. They then traveled to New York for a 3-game set before returning home to face the A's. So far, fans and opposing players have been accomodating, but Jackson could face his biggest mental test when the team starts a 12-game road trip on April 19th that takes them through Washington, Philadelphia, St. Louis and Chicago. Noteably, Cleveland's Municipal Stadium, which has the biggest seating capacity in the major leagues at 70,000, had a large crowd of local black enthusiasts and supporters who turned out to see Al play. The Phillies lead the NL after 2 weeks of play, but surprisingly, they are tied with the Pirates. The Cubs also got off to a good start. The Reds fell below .500 with a 4-2 11-inning loss to Pittsburgh on April 15th, and the Braves have struggled to win just 4 of 13 games. Code:

Geeze I think I tickd off those Pittsburgh folks when I said they' be an April flop. Looks like that my team could be it instead!
But on the bright side, at least second base is sound, and its' only April.

Not a good start for the Allen clan.
Cognac still not recovered from the bone chips discovered in his shoulder last June. Tequila only hittin 216 but does have 7 RBI and 6 runs in 12 games. Bourbon, Jr is letting his anger at management (they stuck him in A ball again!! after promising last yr to move him to AA in June) affect his game as he is 0-3 with a 5.57 ERA.

Don't get me wrong. I'm thrilled with a 9-4 record. But I'm not printing World Series tickets just yet. Dick Presley's hitting a tidy .415, but with 20-year old 2B phenom Herm Vardaman going .375/.500/.650 at AAA (in his 2nd year there), the 39-year old Presley ought to be looking over his shoulder. William "Harold" Perry is off to a nice start at AAA as well (.311/.436/.511). It may not be such a problem to have him in the majors quickly due to his signing bonus. BTW, which is it? William or Harold? I know he's an ancestor, so if the descendant could give me an idea of what I need to be calling him, that'd be handy. ![]() Things are looking up for the hapless Pirates in the near future, I think.

It's early. Gotta get the bats going for the Braves to be successful. The pitching has been "decent" but again, it's early. Can't predict much after 2 weeks.

Young Brothers:
Willie appears to be stuck on the Brooklyn bench again this year hitting .250 in very limited duty. His big little brother George Young is tearing it up in AA hitting .380 and on pace to hit 30HR. But, it's only two weeks in, so it is too early to get real excited just yet.
