BW - Digger Stanley (27-21-4) just won his 12th straight bout. He is at post prime so he is mostly facing TC's ... still 12 straight wins.

and Tommy Ryan is smiling
August 2, 1912
Title Fight LH - Jack Dempsey (2/CH) (44-7) captured the WBC LH Title with a UD15 over Jack Dillon (CH/1) (26-1) to stop the LBA's longest current winning streak at 26. Just goes to show how great Ryan's 34 and Johnson's 33 win streaks were. Dempsey took control in the middle rounds and Dillon ran out of gas late. There were no knockdowns or cuts. I had it 144-141, the official judges saw it 145-142/144-142/144-141. Longest current winning streak now stands at 21 by MW IBF Champ Mike Gibbons. One more win would put him in sole position of 4th place on the all-time list. *** Note **** WBA title was not on the line so the title will be vacated and a tourney will start next month. Other Fights MW - Fighting Bill Murray (23/16) (17-1) TKO3 Bill Gabig (52/68) (15-4-3) 20-17 Murray at the stoppage (murray at pre) WW - Tom McAlpine (42/25) (20-5) KO9 Holger Hansen (18/28) (16-9-2) LW - Jim Smith (59/48) (16-5-2) SD10 Walter Edgerton (67/79) (17-6-3) |

WHOOOOO, Ryan ain't the only one smiling. Dempsey has always been my favorite in this uni so it's good to see him pull off the big win. Of course, sadly we all know that Dempsey will probably lose the belt in his next fight.

Dempsey is 3-5 in title bouts and has never successfully defended his title. This was his first crack at a LHW title. The top 8 fighters will be in a tourney for the WBA title so he has a pretty good shot at getting the defense this time.

Title Fight LW - Freddie Welsh (9/4) (23-8-1) cruised to an easy UD12 over Arthur Chambers (4/5) (24-5-1) for his third defense of the CBU LW title. Welsh controlled the fight from the start. There were no knockdowns or cuts. I had it 118-112, the official judges had it 116-113/119-111/118-112. Other Fights BW - Owen Moran (12/10) (34-8-6) UD10 Jimmy Walsh (3/7) (18-13-5) (as you can tell by the rankings and records obviously Walsh is paying someone off) HW - Larry Foley (6/5) (32-9-3) KO5 Jack Marks (83/95) (13-16-1) LH - Leo Houck (10/8) (29-12-3) TKO5 Charley Stevenson (49/club) (11-16-2) LW - Phil Brock (33/29) (14-0-2) UD10 Kid Cleveland (109/113) (10-9-2) 97-94 Brock (Brock at pre) BW - Jim Kendrick (UR) (9-0) UD8 Robert Dastillon (UR) (2-6-1) 77-75 Kendrick (both at pre in this club fight) |

Title Fight BW - George Dixon (CH) (36-11-1) had an easy time winning a UD15 over Billy Plimmer (4/7) (27-16-6). Plimmer was outclassed the whole way. No knockdowns but Plimmer was cut over the left eye in the 5th and that eye swelled pretty much shut. I only had Plimmer winning one round so I had it 149-137, the other judges were a little more sympathetic and had it 147-139/148-137/147-138. Other fights BW - Al Delmont (11/11) (26-11-3) UD10 Paddy Kelly (66/66) (15-11-1) MW - Billy Papke (4/1) (26-5) MD10 Al Grayber (UR) (10-2-1) (Grayber at pre .. surprisingly tough fight for Papke) LW - Eddie Hanlon (18/17) (19-9-1) MD10 Paddy Smith (100/104) (13-11-2) LW - George McFadden (33/27) (19-12-2) TKO7 Kid Trembles (99/101) (9-8-2) FLY - Percy Jones (UR) (10-0) UD8 Albert Cocksedge (UR) (7-3-1) 79-72 Jones (both at pre for this club fight ... Jones moved to main) |

Title Fight BW - Charles Ledoux (15/12) (19-2) avenged one of his losses with a KO2 over Philadelphia Pal Moore (UR) (12-2) (pre). Moore scored a SD12 win the first time they met (both were pre then) but Ledoux left no doubt KO'ing Moore in the second. First round was close and then Moore was dominating the second before a left hook put him to sleep. I had it 10-9 Ledoux. Other Fights HW - John L. Sullivan (31/13) (41-10) TKO9 Joe Choynski (9/14) (36-11-2) 77-75 Choynski (Choynski at post ... Joe was winning the fight easily and had knocked Sullivan down when a cut reopened for the third time ended the fight) MW - Tommy Ryan (12/8) (45-4-1) KO2 Dick Barker (50/57) (14-11-2) LW - Willie Fitzgerald (12/12) (22-2-4) DRAW10 Willie Beecher (29/28) (17-2-2) (beecher at pre) FW - Patsy Brannigan (11/9) (18-1-2) TKO9 Jim Keeley (81/86) (10-14-2) (Brannigan at pre) HW - Sailor Jack Carroll (UR) (9-0-1) DRAW8 William Demington (UR) (3-7-2) 76-76 (both at pre in this club fight) |

Title Fight FW - Oscar Gardner (CH) (26-6-1) gets a controversial DQ1 win over Benny Yanger (8/14) (24-4) to retain the WBA FW crown for the second time. 20 seconds into the fight the two clashed heads and ref Carlos Berrocal ruled it intentional and without warning stopped the fight. Berrocal was unavailable for comment after the fight. Berrocal is known as a lenient ref and this was the first bout he had ever DQ'd someone. The commissioner (me) has ordered an immediate rematch which will take place next month. Other Fights HW - Hank Griffin (26/12) (27-9-2) SD10 Joe Coburn (10/15) (30-13-5) 95-94 Griffin MW - Young Mitchell (5/4) (19-1) KO9 Frank Fields (28/32) (18-7-1) LW - Harry Gilmore (46/39) (30-15-1) SD10 Special Delivery Hirsch (99/106) (13-5-2) (Gilmore at post, Hirsch at pre) BW - Willie Schumacher (34/31) (17-3-1) UD10 Morris Rauch (45/51) (13-12-2) (schumacher at pre) HW - Al Palzer (UR) (9-0) UD8 Jack Palmer (club) (19-25) 78-73 Palzer (palzer at pre, palmer at end for this club fight) |

Another Title Fight DQ
August 17th, 1912
Title Fight WW - A fighter with the tendancy to foul and a strict referee are never a good match. Young Peter Jackson (6/CH) (28-8-2) finally won the title back after losing it back in 1910 with a DQ5 win over Jack Britton (CH/1) (27-4-6). Unlike the last title fight there will be no mandatory rematch as Britton was warned 7 times and penalized once before the fight was stopped. This was Britton's 2nd loss by DQ and referee Frank Cappacino's 13th stoppage by DQ. Neither fighter was cut or knocked down and I had it even at 38-38 when the fight was stopped. Jackson wins the IBF WW title. Other Fights WW - Joe Gans (4/4) (37-6-3) UD10 Kid Graves (44/48) (19-9-2) FW - George Chaney (UR) (12-0-2) UD10 Tommy Connolly (47/57) (17-12-1) 99-90 Chaney (Chaney at pre) HW - Sam McVey (32/28) (33-8) TKO2 Billy Tate (152/153) (13-13-1) LW - Jewey Cooke (53/44) (18-11-3) TKO9 Harry Scroggs (119/119) (8-6-3) (scroggs at pre) HW - Jack McFarland (UR) (7-0-3) DRAW8 Joe Cox (UR) (4-3-1) 76-75 McFarland (both at pre for this club fight) |

Title Fight WW - George Cole (CH) (21-10-4) scored an easy TKO4 over Wildcat Ferns (10/10) for his 3rd defense of the WBC WW title. Once again his WBA title was not on the line. Fern's left eye started swelling in the second. Then it started bleeding in the third. Cole dropped Ferns in the 4th and then the cut was reopened and the fight was stopped. I had it 29-28 Cole at the stoppage. Other Fights LW - Ad Wolgast (82/58) (20-11) MD10 Herb McCoy (37/65) (17-3-2) (mccoy at pre) HW - Joe Goss (19/11) (28-6-5) UD10 Boer Rodel (UR) (12-2) (rodel at pre) MW - George Ashe (24/21) (15-0-1) MD10 Walter Burgo (89/92) (9-12-2) 95-95 (ashe at pre) FW - Harry Decker (76/46) (18-9-1) SD10 Brooklyn Tommy Sullivan (24/47) (23-16-4) (sullivan at post ... ends 11 fight win streak for sullivan) MW - Dick O'Brien (club) (7-22-2) MD8 Carl Pederson (UR) (5-1) 77-76 O'Brien (pederson at pre in this club fight) |

Title Fights WBC - Young Griffo (CH) (39-8-7) fought to a draw with Jack Blackburn (2/2) (32-13-6) to retain the WBC LW title for the third time. Griffo's IBF title was not on the line. Griffo got off to an early lead but Blackburn closed the gap in the middle rounds. The two split the last four rounds. There were no knockdowns or cuts. I had it 145-143 Griffo, while the official judges saw it 143-145/143-143/143-143. CBU - Nunc Wallace (26/21) (18-8-2) retained his CBU BW title with a UD12 over Sam Keller (UR) (8-1) in his first defense. Uneventful fight with no knockdowns and no cuts. Wallace was in control most of the way. I had it 115-113 as did two official judges with the third seeing it 117-111, Other Fights MW - George Gunther (14/11) (22-6-1) UD10 Jack Moffat (57/72) (14-15-3) LHW - Tommy Gibbons (UR) (11-0) UD10 Pat McCourt (52/60) (13-10-3) (gibbons at pre) Fly - Jim Donald (15/14)(12-14-1) SD10 Young Oliver (UR/12) (13-1-1) 95-95 (oliver at pre) FW - Al Jansen (UR) (7-0-3) DRAW8 Joe Cain (club) (4-20-5) 76-76 (jansen at pre in this club fight) |

Title Fight CBU - Jimmy Wilde (UR) (14-0) (pre) overcame a cut to win a KO12 over Bill Ladbury (10/10) (13-3-2) (pre) for his 4th defense of the CBU FLY title. Wilde was cut in the second and it was reopened twice in the fight. Ladbury's left eye was pretty much swollen shut from the 8th on. Ladbury was down in the 11th and for good in the 12th. I had it 108-100 at the stoppage Other fights LHW - Georges Carpentier (6/5) (24-4) KO2 Frank Gotch (63/65) (15-11-1) FW - Monk Newsboy (91/57)(12-15-2) TKO6 Eugene Criqui (UR/62) (14-1) 49-47 Newsboy (criqui at pre ... dropped 300pp with the loss will be a while for him to work his way back into the picture) MW - Jack Fogarty (10/6) (22-4-1) TKO3 Tony Caponi (75/84) (15-11) |

Yeah really makes you root for the guy .... I keep expecting him to get up in the top 10 then get blown out in a title match. Although in my uni he'll have a 20% chance of coming in at prime for the title match.
