This game sucked, they sucked, and 0-162 is still possible, if not inevitable.

Yohan Ramirez pitched like a guy wanting to be suspended. (For incompetence, not headhunting.)
Pete hit two nice singles to right. This would help if he wasn't hitting in front of McNeil (why is McNeil hitting clean-up????) and his .100 batting average. Also, Mr. Pointy isn't exactly table-setting with that .077 OBA. Megill was pulled after that 9-pitch 4th inning. Colin Rea was pulled after sailing through the Mets' 5th. Neither had thrown 90 pitches. Damn, I am really NOT missing Manfred-ball. Highlights of the day were the "guess which cameraman went to spring training?" contest (Kenny on the #4 [center-field] cam had a nice tan) and Keith suggesting that when Doc and Darryl get their numbers retired, the signs should be rearranged so that his #17 is between Doc's #16 and Darryl's #18, as their lockers often were on the road. He then paused and referred to those beloved 1980s heroes quietly as a "couple of headaches". Well, yeah, but you weren't always sweetness and light yourself, Keith…it's okay, we don't need our icons to be saints, even on Easter. (Ronnie noted that things were quieter with his #12 flanked by Tim Teufel [#11] and Lee Mazzilli [#13], but I already reported how shocked Mookie was about Ronnie leading "man of God" Teufel astray that time in Houston.) I wonder how far they'll get by scoring a steady 2.0 runs per game.

Did they win? 0-0 after 9, so that was it for me. I don't watch wifffleball or whatever they do instead of extra innings.
Gary Cohen kept claiming that the .299 BA and .886 OPS Javy Flailez put up as a Met in 2021 was "the best two months of his life". He even had a graphic to back it up. Not for those of us who lived through it (page 53, et seq.), Gar. I'm glad the brain-bleach is working for you, but… (Had to love the classic swing where Whiffez torqued himself around while not coming anywhere close to a pitch that was a foot outside. And he was late, too.) Mets History: the 5.2 hitless innings that Sean Manaea posted to start the game was the most ever by a pitcher in his Mets debut. Les Rohr, eat your heart out! (It was Billy Rohr [contemporaneous with Les, but no relation] who threw 8.2 no-hit IP in his debut, but that was for the Red Sox. Billy only won 3 games in his career, but that still beat Les, who won 2.) Last edited by Amazin69; 04-02-2024 at 11:31 AM. |

While we wait for the rain, Gary reminds us that this is only 4th time ever the Mets (aka Kings of Opening Day) have started 0-4.
(1962-1964, and Willie Randolph's 0-5 in '05.) However, this is the first time all four losses have been at home.

Would be interested to hear opinions/reactions to this analysis of the Mets offense in potential double play situations: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDSLbdXWRhw

At least the Doc-umentary (Dr. K) is on. Not that I'm thrilling to seeing some things (the Scioscia homer) again, but I think this is the first time I've ever seen David Cone getting hit by Attlee Hammaker. (In 1987, while attempting to bunt.)
IIRC, it was a Memorial Day Sunday, in San Francisco, and I think I was in the City, maybe at a show or something. It was bad enough when your pitching staff was so injury-riddled (Doc on drug suspension, Sid and Ojeda and McDowell hurt) that you're counting on a rookie as well as the Terry Leach types to hold the fort, but Coney breaking that pinkie really hurt at that point. |

Literally the same video as posted three posts above yours. Call out the Squad Squad!
With something injured in Tylor Megill's arm, the Mets are planning to sign Julio Teheran to start in his old Atlanta stomping grounds on Monday. Rotsa ruck! Adrian Houser was a Brewer before he was a Met, but he only got to Milwaukee because of a trade the Mets didn't make. When the proposed Wilmer Flores and Zack Wheeler to Milwaukee for Carlos Gomez deal fell through in 2015, the Brewers ended up sending Go-Go and Mike Fiers to Houston for Josh Hader, Brett Phillips and Houser. Huh. The pre-game show is profiling Brett Baty, calling him "an early bright spot for the team". If that doesn't spell "0-4", what does? Last edited by Amazin69; 04-04-2024 at 01:01 PM. |

If you have $500M's worth of sub-.100 batting, Baty's 3-for-12 looks spiffy!

Hey, hey! It was only the tying run this time! And after Drew Smth and Creakin' Diekman had squandered 2/3 of the lead already. Progress, right?
I hit FF after 9, of course, so I know they lost, but I don't know if Nimmo/Lindor got any hits. Through 9, their collective stats this season are 2 hits (1 apiece) in 39 combined AB. That's a sparkling .051 BA from your table-setters. Might be time to find a new table, Mendoza. Perhaps one not located in Area 051. |

No matter how generously applied, no amount of Boudreaux's Butt Paste can make Jose Butto watchable...

Never mind Butto. (a 3-0 count of 4 of the first 6 hitters he faced…sigh.)
Never mind Lindor now batting under .050. Never mind Nimmo losing the SB because the ump had his head so close that the Detroit catcher had his elbow hit the ump in the head, causing Interference. How did Keith (in for Ronnie for the 2nd game) reminisce about his 1982 base-stealing exploits and talk about his getting advice from a then recently-retired Cardinals legend and… …nothing! Where was this? Did the truck freeze up or something? At least we got a good start on Keith Bingo! |

Chumps no more! Chumps no more!
![]() ![]() I nodded off for a few innings in the middle there. Luckily, didn't miss a Mets hit. ![]() PEEEETE to tie, and Tyrone Taylor (not: Travis Taijeron) to win, by the skin of their last set of Keith, uh - ... teeth!

As Last Met Games Ever go, that didn't suck.
(DirecTV's free preview is over after today. Also, it turns out that after giving me 2022 for free, they charged me last season when i had already cancelled permanently, and are charging me now. So I need to yell at them quite a bit. On the plus side, I should be getting a good $200 or so back. On the debit side, they shouldn't have debited it in the first place.) I won't do backflips over getting a grand total of three hits, but any win is a good win now. Pete (who hasn't been Kingman this season) covers a multitude of sins. (Now if only they can sign him…) Last edited by Amazin69; 04-09-2024 at 03:25 PM. |
