Editor's Note: I cannot wait to get to the B Leagues draft! And we are going to make it there today or die trying!

The Hornets are 5th in fewest runs allowed with 3.82 per game (Jacksonville is last with 5.32). Their run differential is +57 and ours is -256.

Jim Hess stays in to catch and Frank Wendell (33-R) is in to play center. P John Straley leads off with a walk... Larry Davis grounds into a force at 2nd, 3-6. With 2 outs, Terry Wolf doubles to left center and Davis scores... 14 to 6, Hornets. That is RBI #100 for Wolf. 12 of them against us...Bruce McArthur hits a home run to right... 16 to 6, Hornets.

Bottom of the Eighth:

New Pitcher: Barry Finney (26-R). Junior Danielson (30-R), the last player on the bench, is in to play short in a double switch. With 1 out, Randy Dodson doubles to right center. We put RP Bob Craig (23-R) on the DL and recalled RP Brad Kendrick (25-R). Kendrick has done okay, except for walking 5.6 per game....

We are in Orlando to play our in state rivals a 3 game series over the weekend and end this miserable season. They just split 4 games here with New Orleans. We are 8-3 against them on the season and are guaranteed to win the season series! Our only series win against any team in the South. We beat Columbus of the North, 5 games to 3. We split a pair of games the last time we were here, August 6-7. The Juice are 9th in scoring with 4.20 runs per game (Jacksonville is #15 with 3.67). We seem to be safe from dropping to last place in runs scored, as we are 25 runs ahead of New Orleans. We are 13 runs out of 12th place, so we could move up a notch or two with a good showing in this series! Orlando is 13th in fewest runs allowed with 4.50 per game (Jacksonville is last with 5.35). We have no chance of moving out of last in runs allowed as we are 127 runs behind the next worst team, Hartford. If we can avoid giving up 49 runs this series we will not have to face the embarrassment of allowing 900 runs.... Orlando's run differential is -48 and ours is -268. He have no chance of not ending up with the worst.

Jacksonville Jays (53-106 .333 36 GB in 8th (last) place in the Southern Division) at
Orlando Juice (70-89 .440 19 GB in 6th place in the Southern Division)

JAX: Frank Cook (35-R) (3-10 6.27 ERA 93.1 IP, 112 H, 6 HR, 43 BB, 49 SO) vs.
ORL: Bob Carroll (26-R) (7-16 5.34 ERA 1 SV 146.2 IP, 166 H, 11 HR, 105 BB, 61 SO)

Cook has had 2 good starts in a row. Last time out, he allowed 2 runs on 8 hits and 2 walks with 1 strikeout in 6 innings in a no decision.

Carroll is 0-2 in 3 starts against us with a 4.71 ERA: 21 IP, 25 H, 1 HR, 19 BB and 11 SO. He is walking 6.4 per 9 innings on the season, the worst of anyone in the League with more than 50 IP.

Game Start: 7:05 PM
Ballpark: Forbes Field
Weather: 80 F, Partly Cloudy, with a 10 MPH wind blowing out to right
Attendance: 8,283

Top of the First:
Frank Roadman flies out to center. Danny Stewart strikes out looking on 3 pitches... Joe Roberts swings at the first pitch and grounds out to the pitcher...

Bottom of the First:
Tom Howard leads off with a home run to left... 1 to 0, Juice. HR #20 for him. Ernie Patterson grounds a double over the 1st base bag.... Gil Weaver grounds out to the pitcher and Patterson goes to 3rd. Barry Magee grounds out to short and Patterson scores... 2 to 0, Juice. Jim Wilt grounds a hit to right. Mike Day grounds a hit to center and Wilt goes to 3rd, but we cut the ball off and nail Day at 2nd!

Bottom of the Second:
With 2 outs, P Bob Carroll grounds a hit up the middle. Tom Howard doubles to left center and P Carroll scores from 1st... 3 to 0, Juice.

Top of the Third:
With 1 out, Brian Porter becomes our first base runner with a little poke of a hit to center. P Frank Cook bunts him to 2nd. Frank Roadman pokes another little hit to center and Porter scores! 3 to 1, Juice. Roadman steals 2nd and goes to 3rd when C Mike Day throws the ball away! Roadman's 41st steal and his first in two weeks. I had visions of him ending up with 50. Danny Stewart grounds a hit up the middle and Roadman scores! 3 to 2, Juice.

Through 5 innings, we have yet to draw a walk....

Top of the Sixth:
Frank Roadman lines a hit to left and Barry Magee misplays the ball for an error! Danny Stewart swings at a 3-2 pitch and beats out an infield hit. Joe Roberts swings at the first pitch and grounds into a force at 2nd, 6-4, and Roadman scores. Tie Game: 3 to 3! With 2 outs, Garrett Bender beats out an infield hit. Tony Becerra lines a hit to center and Roberts heads home........Safe! 4 to 3, Jays! Junior Danielson, who was not afraid to risk his .200 average to play (!), lines a hit to center and Bender beats the throw home! 5 to 3, Jays! That does it for P Bob Carroll, who did not walk a batter this game. New Pitcher: Dave Kelly (30-R), with a 4.39 ERA in 82 IP. He walks the first batter he faces, Brian Porter, on a 3-2 pitch! The bases are loaded with 2 outs. Since the Bullpen is not very fresh, we let P Frank Cook bat and he grounds out to 3rd.

Bottom of the Sixth:
Yep, should not have let Cook hit.... Gil Weaver takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4 and Barry Magee grounds a hit to left. The Bullpen is up. Jim Wilt grounds one to 2nd, but Junior Danielson boots it and the bases are loaded with no outs....Mike Day grounds into a force at home, 3-2. The only fresh arm in the Pen is newly called up Brad Kendrick, who walks 5.5 per 9 innings... Not the fella you want to bring in with the bases loaded.... Ray McDonald lines a hit to left and Magee scores and Wilt heads home and Cal Doty uncorks another wild throw for error #20.... Tie Game: 5 to 5. Call to the Bullpen: Brad Kendrick (25-R). With the infield in, Danny Hutchinson grounds out to 3rd and the runners hold. 2 outs. Thankfully, they pinch-hit for the pitcher! PH Herman Chance (31-R), who is batting .266 with 18 HR and 61 RBI in 428 AB and is nursing a bruised back, swings at the first pitch and pops out to right!!

Bottom of the Seventh:
With 1 out, Ernie Patterson swings at a 3-2 pitch and doubles to center. We walk Gil Weaver intentionally. Dunno about walking batters intentionally with a wild pitcher on the mound.... With 2 outs, Jim Wilt swings at a 3-2 pitch and pokes a hit to center and Patterson scores... 6 to 5, Juice.

Bottom of the Eighth:

Ray McDonald grounds a hit to right. Call to the Bullpen: Bill Grant (30-L). Danny Hutchinson lays down a bunt, but 1B Tony Becerra makes a bad toss to P Grant at 1st for a 2 base error... They let P Ray Hayes (26-R) bat, because, Hey! Why not! Pitchers all hit against the Jays! He grounds a hit to left and McDonald scores... 7 to 5, Juice. Tom Howard grounds out to 3rd and P Hayes goes to 2nd and Hutchinson stays put at 3rd. Ernie Patterson pokes a little hit to center and Hutchinson scores... 8 to 5, Juice. P Grant has to finish this inning... Gil Weaver grounds into a 4-6-3 double play!

Jacksonville Jays (53-107 .331 36 GB in 8th (last) place in the Southern Division) at

9: P Antonio Perez (26-S .203-74-0-9-.494-0 F)

Game Start: 2:05 PM
Ballpark: Forbes Field
Weather: 80 F, Partly Cloudy, with a 13 MPH wind blowing out to center
Attendance: 10,298

Top of the First:
Leander Gooding grounds out to 3rd. Cal Doty strikes out... Ismael Gonzales grounds out to short...

Bottom of the First:
Tom Howard grounds out to 2nd. Ernie Patterson grounds out to 3rd. Gil Weaver draws a walk... Herman Chance flies out to deep center!

Bottom of the Second:
With 1 out, Ray McDonald beats out an infield hit. Kevin Landman lines a hit to left and McDonald beats the throw to 3rd. Danny Hutchinson walks to load the bases up with 1 out. P Antonio Perez strikes out. Tom Howard swings at 1-2 pitch and puts in the right field bleachers for a Grand Slam.... 4 to 0, Juice.

Bottom of the Fourth:
Deja vu.... Ray McDonald grounds a hit to right. Kevin Landman, the .187 hitter, grounds his second hit of the game up the middle and McDonald goes to 3rd. Okay, I want to end the season with a win tomorrow and our Bullpen is all tuckered out. So P Marco Gonzalez is going to take one for the team today.... Danny Hutchinson hits a home run to left... 7 to 0, Juice. P Antonio Perez lines one to 1st, but Ismael Gonzales drops it for an error... With 1 out, Ernie Patterson hits a home run to right... 9 to 0, Juice. I hope we can figure out a way to not have a single pitcher from this season back for next year.... With 10 pitchers on the staff and only 8 draft picks, it will not be easy.... We have to at least get rid of all the starters....

Top of the Fifth:
Frank Roadman loops a hit to center and then steals 2nd. Who cares if we are down 9 runs? With 1 out, Frank Wendell lines a hit to center. he steals 2nd! Junior Danielson clears the bases with a double to left! 9 to 2, Juice. P Marco Gonzalez grounds out to 1st and Danielson goes to 3rd. Leander Gooding beats out an infield hit and Danielson scores! 9 to 3, Juice.

Bottom of the Fifth:
Barry Magee walks on 4 pitches and goes to 2nd on a ground out. With 2 outs, Danny Hutchinson beats out an infield hit. Which brings up P Antonio Perez with 2 outs and a runner in scoring position.... He clears the bases with a double to left center... 11 to 3, Juice. This is utterly ridiculous... I am going to go through the box scores sometime this off season and figure out exactly what pitchers have hit against us with 2 outs and a runner in scoring position... It seems to me to be about .750....

Top of the Sixth:

Ismael Gonzales grounds a hit to right and Garrett Bender draws a walk. Frank Roadman grounds into a force at 2nd, 4-6, and Gonzales goes to 3rd. Joe Roberts grounds out to 3rd and Gonzales scores. 11 to 4, Juice. Frank Wendell hits a home run to right!! 11 to 6, Juice.

Top of the Seventh:
On the Hill: Mike Ballou (25-R), a rookie, after getting the final out of the 6th. With 2 outs, Cal Doty walks on 4 pitches. PH Tony Becerra (32-L) takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4. Garrett Bender swings at a 3-2 pitch and grounds a hit to left and Doty scores! 11 to 7, Juice.

Lost - 11 to 7

We had 9 hits and made 1 error
Orlando had 11 hits and made no errors

2B Leander Gooding had 2 hits and an RBI. PH/1B Tony Becerra drew a walk. C Garrett Bender had a hit and a walk and an RBI. SS Frank Roadman had a hit, stole a base and scored 2 runs. RF Joe Roberts had a hit and a walk and an RBI. CF Frank Wendell had 2 hits with his 1st home run of the season, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBI. 3B Junior Danielson hit a double, scored a run and had 2 RBI.

For Orlando, Tom Howard hit a Grand Slam. C Kevin Landman, batting .187 coming into the game, had 3 hits and scored 2 runs. SS Danny Hutchinson had 2 hits with his 3rd home run of the season, drew a walk, scored 3 runs and had 3 RBI.

Around the League: Memphis lost at home to Richmond, 8 to 1, for their 5th loss in a row. Birmingham and Charlotte both won, so the Barons and Mules are now tied atop the Division with the Hornets 1 back with 1 game left to play.

Finally! I will not have to see the ugly mugs of a lot of these guys ever again after today! If any pitcher who started a game for us this season starts a game for us next year, then our off season will have been a failure...

Jacksonville Jays (53-108 .329 36 GB in 8th (last) place in the Southern Division) at
Orlando Juice (72-89 .447 17 GB in 6th place in the Southern Division)

Game Start: 2:05 PM
Ballpark: Forbes Field
Weather: 73 F, Partly Cloudy, with an 11 MPH wind blowing out to right
Attendance: 10,683

Top of the First:
Leander Gooding lines a hit to center and Ted Mason misplays the ball for an error! Cal Doty beats out an infield hit! Ismael Gonzales grounds into a 5-4-3 double play and Gooding scores... 1 to 0, Jays! Garrett Bender swings at the first pitch and flies out to deep center.

Bottom of the First:
Ted Mason strikes out on 3 pitches! Ernie Patterson tries to bunt his way aboard, but P Mackie Reed makes the play, 1-3! Gil Weaver doubles to right... Herman Chance doubles to center... Tie Game: 1 to 1. Barry Magee hits a home run to right... 3 to 1, Juice. Mike Day pops out to left.

Top of the Second:
Frank Roadman draws a walk. Joe Roberts grounds a double over the 3rd base bag and Roadman scores from 1st! 3 to 2, Juice. Frank Wendell lines a hit to right. He steals 2nd! Brian Porter bloops a hit to right and Roberts scores! Tie Game: 3 to 3. PH Jim Hess (31-R) swings at a 3-2 pitch and grounds a hit up the middle and Wendell scores! 4 to 3, Jays! Leander Gooding grounds a hit up the middle and the bases are loaded with no outs! Cal Doty blasts one to the flagpole in deep left center, which would be a Grand Slam in any other park, but he has to settle for a 3 run triple!!! 7 to 3, Jays! That does it for P Curt Gillis. New Pitcher: Mike Ballou (25-R), who gave us a run in 1.1 innings yesterday. PH Tony Becerra (32-L) strikes out... Garrett Bender flies out to right and Doty tags up and scores. 8 to 3, Jays!

Bottom of the Sixth:

On the Hill: Mike Gaddis (32-R), after 3 scoreless innings. With 1 out, Gil Weaver hits a home run to right. 8 to 4, Jays. Bottom of the Ninth:

On the Hill: Bill Grant (30-L), after a scoreless, but adventurous 8th. We do not normally report the bottom of the 9th innings that have more than a 2 run lead, unless something gets stirring, but since this is our final game, we are making an exception. Danny Hutchinson fouls out to 1st! 54-108 has a lot better symmetry to it than 53-109.... Also, do not want to end the season on a 5 game losing streak.... PH Floyd Hiser (34-R), 0 for 1 this series, lines out to center! Ted Mason grounds out to 2nd and THIS Ball Game Belongs to the Jays!

Won - 8 to 5

We finish the season series with Orlando 9-5!
We are the Champions of Florida!

We had 13 hits and made 1 error
Orlando had 9 hits and made 1 error

Mackie Reed went 1 inning, allowed 3 runs, 3 hits, 1 home run, no walks and struck out 1.
RHP Barry Finney (W 1-2) went 1 scoreless inning to get his first career win!
RHP Mike Gaddis went 4 innings, allowed 2 runs, 3 hits and 2 home runs. He threw 3 perfect innings and ran out of gas...
RHP Mike Hasley (H 1) went 1 scoreless inning, allowed 2 hits and struck out 1.
LHP Bill Grant (SV 7) went 2 scoreless innings, allowed 1 hit, 1 walk and struck out 2.

Curt Gillis (L 5-4) went 1+ innings, gave us 8 runs, 8 hits, 1 walk and struck out no one.

2B Leander Gooding had 3 hits and a walk and scored 2 runs. LF Cal Doty had 3 hits with a triple and a walk, scored a run and had 3 RBI, He finishes the season at an even .300! C Garrett Bender had 2 hits and an RBI. RF Joe Roberts hit a double and drew a walk, scored a run and had an RBI. CF Frank Wendell went 1 for 1, stole a base and scored a run. 3B Brian Porter had a hit, scored a run and had an RBI. PH Jim Hess had a hit, scored a run and had an RBI.

For Orlando, RF Gil Weaver had 3 hits with a double and his 16th home run of the season and scored 2 runs. LF Barry Magee hit 2 home runs and had 3 RBI.

Around the League:
Charlotte lost at home to Louisville, so we would not have to worry about a three way tie for 1st in the Southern Division. Memphis won at home, 10 to 2, against Richmond in the afternoon and then waited around for the results of Birmingham's night game at New Orleans. The Barons lost for the second time this weekend to a 20 game loser, 8 to 6, and the Mules claimed the division championship.

There are no ties in the MLB. 1st tiebreaker is head to head record, 2nd is record within the division, 3rd is run differential, 4th is record versus the division champion and 5th is run differential in head to head games. If we ever need a 6th, we will take a vote.... Both ties in the Northern Division were broken by head to head record.

What do the Jays need to become a winning ball club? What don't they need is an easier question. We do not need a catcher, a 2nd baseman or a left fielder. Everything else is a need, including all 10 pitching spots. Youngster Glen Lewis (20-L) will probably be good enough to play right next year, but he seems injury prone, so we need a good backup, preferably a right-handed hitter. 3B, SS, and CF are the most pressing needs outside of pitching and pitching and more pitching. Too many needs to be solved through the draft in January, where we will have 8 picks and will be very lucky to get 4 players that can play right away. So we let our needs be known to the rest of the League and we hope we can work out a few trades. Only 5 of our players have been put on the 'off limits' list: C Garrett Bender, C Bert Swope, 2B Leander Gooding, LF Cal Doty and RF Glen Lewis. Everyone else, we will willingly part with.
