The Toronto winning streak ended as the first game of the double header went to Cleveland. The Toronto hitters did their part, but the pitching and defense did not as they fell 10-7.

Ken Phelps, Carney Lansford, and Eiichi Hasegawa all homered for the Jays.

WP - Jim Deshaies (10-9)
Save - Bill Gullickson (1)
LP - Ron Guidry (12-5)

Record - 79-23

The Cleveland starter was Tim Leary?

But I thought Timothy Leary's dead?

Oh no, he's outside, looking in.

And losing 6-1 to Mike Krukow and the Blue Jays.

WP - Mike Krukow (13-2)
LP - Tim Leary (7-11)

It was an exciting match-up, Nolan Ryan vs Roger Clemens. Rocket was sharp, striking out eleven, but Ryan got the 2-1 win as the Blue Jays beat the White Sox. Not only was it a victory for Toronto, but it was Ryan's 300th career victory!

Ryne Sandberg and Carney Lansford hit solo homers for Toronto's runs.

WP - Nolan Ryan (15-3)
Save - Daniel Peters (41)
LP - Roger Clemens (13-6)

Record - 81-24

Of note, after Nolan Ryan reached 300 wins, Bert Blyleven is only 3 wins behind him at 297.

Ron Guidry also approaches a milestone as he is at 197.

And now Bert Blyleven has 298 wins as he held Cleveland to only three hits and pitched a complete game shut out, as the Blue Jays won 8-0.

That is five straight wins for Toronto.

Carney Lansford hit two home runs. Ken Phelps added one.

WP - Bert Blyleven (12-6)

(What? No Timothy Leary jokes this time?)

This game had it all. An hour long rain delay. Loads of home runs, including a walk-off winner. Even a benches clearing brawl that led to Ken Phelps and Andy Hawkins being ejected.

The Jays lost their 4th straight, falling 7-5 to the Red Sox.

Eiich Hasegawa homered twice and Phelps homered once.

It seems that Phelps is now facing a five game suspension for his actions after being plunked by Hawkins.

WP - Kent Tekulve (1-2)
LP - Mike Parrott (1-3)

Record - 85-28

The Blue Jays couldn't score until the 8th but they did what they needed to do late and broke their losing streak, beating the Red Sox 3-1 on the strength of a complete game by Mike Krukow.

WP - Mike Krukow (15-2)
LP - Willie Hernandez (1-2)

Record - 86-28

Kirk Gibson's two run homer in the 7th turned the game around and Daniel Peters struck out the side as he continued what may be the best relief season of all time. The Jays beat the White Sox 5-4.

WP - Karl Cowell (8-0)
Save - Daniel Peters (42)
LP - Doug Sisk (1-5)

Record - 87-28
