Jose Guerrero was named the NL Player of the Week.
Sure he hit .800 but it was with only 10 at-bats. Kind of silly. Jose de la Cruz of Baton Rouge won for his Short A league. The AL winner was Chick Stahl of the Athletics. Brooklyn has risen to #4 on the Weekly Power Rankings. The Pirates are #1.

An amazing game for both Cy Young AND Tully Sparks, but it was Brooklyn who managed to scrape a run across in the 8th (Jason Wright's RBI double scored pinch-hitter Jose Guerrero), for a 1-0 win over the Phillies. WP - Cy Young (18-20) LP - Tully Sparks (19-15) Record - 73-59 Ground was still lost as the Pirates won both halves of a double header today. Pirates - -- Superbas - 4.0 Phillies - 4.5 Cubs - 5.0

Antonio Prez hit an RBI triple in the top of the 9th to give the Superbas the 3-2 lead over the Giants, only for Frank Kitson to blow the save and lose 4-3. That was game one of a double header. Brooklyn needs to take game two just to stay even. WP - Chappie McFarland (20-14) LP - Frank Kitson (0-1) Record - 73-60

Brooklyn was led by Eddie Plank in a solid showing in the second game, though he was gone by the time they won 4-3 over the Giants in the 11th. Jason Wright went 4 for 6, including the game-winning RBI hit that scored Antonio Perez. WP - Ken Davis (19-4) Save - Ed Willett (2) LP - Barney Pelty (12-18) Record - 74-60 Pirates - -- Superbas - 4.5 Cubs - 5.0 Phillies - 5.5 Pittsburgh has a Magic Number of 16 with 19 games remaining. Brooklyn has a 13.3% chance of winning the pennant. Things are even tighter in the AL with the Senators leading the Highlanders by a half game and the Athletics by 1.5.

At a time where every game is crucial, this was a heartbreaker. The Giants scored 2 unearned runs off of 3 errors in the 5th to give them a 2-1 lead. Then, in the 8th, pinch-runner Gerald Hunter was gunned down at home trying to tie the game. New York held on for the 2-1 victory. WP - Andy Coakley (21-12) LP - Cy Young (18-21) Record - 74-61 Pirates - -- Superbas - 5.0 Cubs - 5.0 Pittsburgh's Magic Number - 15
