A couple prospects I'm curious about
Jeff Mathis - C - Ana
James Loney - 1B - LA Brad Nelson - 1B - Mil Jake Gautreau - 2B - SD Jose Lopez - SS - Sea Joe Borchard - OF - Chi Jason Stokes - 1B/OF - Fla Rick Asadoorian - OF - StL Franklyn German - CL - Det Jeremy Bonderman - SP - Det Sean Burnett - SP - Pit Scott Kazmir - SP - NYM Thanks for your time. This is only if you have time, but I am an avid follower of the top prospects in baseball. I like knowing in advance who the best will be. Granted Asadoorian isn't the best of the bunch, but he went to my high school, so I have to be curious about him . Thanks again, keep up the good work. I am sure everyone appreciates it.

Hey, I looked back on your pitchertest site, and I saw that you essentially have Erik Bedard rated out better potential wise then Jeremy Bonderman. I think most experts you ask would tell you that Bonderman has more of a future, especially because of Bedard's injury history, and the fact he is in the Orioles system.
Also, on Adam Wainwright: "Wainwright, 20, has emerged as the best of an extremely talented group of youthful Braves' starting pitching prospects...his fastball was rated as the best in the High-A Carolina League because of its exceptional movement. The 2000 first round draftee is especially tough on right-handed hitters...another ten lbs of muscle would put him over the top." ~ John Benson's Future Stars Again, not really a big deal, just an observation I made. Thanks again for your time. Great work .

Hey Wombat...
Thanks for the comments. Thus far, Bedard has been more impressive than Wainwright, despite his injury problems, holding opponents to a lower batting average when he's been healthy, though Wainwright does strike out more guys (he also walks more). The sheets have been revised since I posted this thread a while back. As it stands now, both will actually have good potentials for everything, though Bedard is closer to being ready. The only difference is Bedard is injury prone. But until it impacts him on the field, I'll go with what they've done and Bedard has been better. As for Bonderman, he basically is a victim of me being a conservative grader for one-year guys. It's a personal philosophy. Rare exceptions (Prince Fielder, Hanley Ramirez) happen when guys just put up ridiculous first year numbers, but otherwise they will usually be graded somewhat conservatively. That being said, Bonderman should certainly be good if he stays healthy, always a big if with pitchers (as Bedard shows, though he's worked through it so far). As for your big list, I haven't posted anymore now that I have really started getting the data into the sheets. Hopefully, everyone will see the results not too long after OOTP5 is released. Thanks for the comments and interest. GH |

Thanks for taking the time for your explanation. I appreciate it. I also do understand about not posting anymore since you've gotten more involved. Best of luck with the entire process, I know I, for one, am definitely looking forward to your rosters. When you add in a fairly complete minor league system to add on to the major league rosters, it makes this game unbelievable. I guess since I am 16, I really appreciate the younger guys because they are the guys I'll be able to go out and see on my own when I'm in college and beyond. I actually wish could sim over the first couple of seasons sometimes so that my rotation could consist of Roy Oswalt, Tim Redding, Kirk Saarloos, Anthony Pluta, and Rodrigo Rosario. I don't know, the minors interest me
.Also, just a side ntoe. Though he's inexperienced, just take a look at Orlando Rodriguez's stats as a pitcher for the Dodgers. They are unbelievable . Again, best of luck on this. I'm looking forward to it.

Wombat,
Good to see a young guy like you interested in the minor leagues. It's fun stuff, and I only really got into minor leagues 3 or 4 years ago when I started getting into High Heat, which had a full minor league system. Go to minor league games if you can, too. Fun stuff. The Dodgers sleeper I actually like a bit is Will McCrotty. 23-year old reliever. As for the Astros guys you mentioned, I wouldn't get overly high on Pluta. Great arm, but has control issues. He's young, so he could overcome that stuff. GH |

I hafta hope for him, I am an Astros fan
. They need all the pitching they can in the juicebox. Yeah, the minor league games are fun too. Biggest problem is that I'm from Massachusetts so who really wants to go see the PawSox all the time? I know I don't. I hate the Yankees, but its a two hour drive to Norwich, the closest interesting minor league games. Oh well, what can ya do? High Heat is also where I got my minor league beginnings. Then my dad got me into fantasy baseball where we have a 17 man taxi squad for minor league guys, so I have to be able to distinguish some guys. Now I just have to hope some of my guys (Sean Burnett, Jeremy Bonderman, Grady Sizemore, Kelly Johnson, etc.) pan out. We'll see though. I've looked somewhat smart with choices of Austin Kearns, Chris Snelling, and the best one, Alfonso Soriano . Oh well. Thanks again, now get to work!

first, gpm22, I'm not ignoring you, I'm just trying to find out how much I am allowed to divulge about things.
Wombat, nice group you have there. Burnett was very impressive last year, and he's still young for the leagues he's played in (always a good sign). We've already siscussed Bonderman. Sizemore and Johnson certainly have potential, so it's a good group. Get one of the Giants young pitchers if you can. GH |

Sadly my dad has Foppert
. But yes, the core of Ainsworth, Williams, and Foppert are excellent. I think all three are pretty much ready now too. Then throw in Bonser and Threets, and the bat of Linden. Not a bad system they have going on out there in the west. Who is your favorite team GForce?

I'm a Mets fan, and I love our top 5 prospects. Great balance with a righty (Heilman), lefty (Kazmir), catcher (Huber), third baseman (Wright) and stud shortstop (Reyes). They have potential to have a lot of pitching depth, but a lot needs to shake out. My hope is just, now that the Mets have rebuilt their farm system into solid shape again, they don't ditch all of them. I'm a big David Cone fan, but I would rather the Mets have let Bacsik, Middlebrook, Heilman and Strange battle it out for the 5th spot. GH |

Yeah, the Mets seem to have the talent every year, it just never all comes together at once. Floyd will be a welcome addition in the outfield if he can stay healthy, and thats a big if. Kazmir should be excellent, in spite of the money they are paying him, they still stole him. I personally think that Bacsik will be the guy, and a possibility of Heilman. I think they will just be more conservative with Heilman after the Pulsipher, Isringhausen, Wilson disasters. Though they should be careful with Bacsik too, I think he is just one of those middle of the road guys that they will be willing to take that risk on. We'll see though, tough division this year with the Phillies being back in the mix.

well last year was just a flat out collapse. Interestingly, everyone said they would score a ton of runs, it would just be a matter of how the pitching held up. Well the pitching was good, particularly the bullpen. It was the lineup the sabotaged everything.
The guy I'm really interested in seeing is Middlebrook. Supposedly he has thrown very well early on. Obviously not much to go on, but a guy I always liked. Grant Roberts' arm troubles have pretty much ruled him out of a starting job at this point, which is too bad. Bacsik could learn a lot from exposure to Leiter and Glavine, but he's got a bit too much Glendon Rusch in him and that concerns me. Rusch should be much better than he is. I'll be watching Pat Strange too. GH |

Well they all have talent, no doubt about that. You are right about Rusch though, waste of talent. Then again, only so much you can do with it on Milwaukee. Who knows, any of those options have to be better then John Burkett, Tim Wakefield, and Frank Castillo up here in Boston.

I have to disagree with you on Threets; while his control is definitely erratic, I think the better compasion might be bobby jenks. Griffin just seems to throw hard; that's all. his line from last year is flat out scary... |

Isn't that the case with so many of them though? "just seem to throw hard"...If only the stories from Major League came true

Bobby Jenks could be a really awesome pitcher if he ever gets his control down and develops some other plus pitches. I played against him in high school and he was lights out, but he has improved so much since then. By the way, I went 1 for 3 against him with a walk.
