After 42 posts to his own thread...I'm glad he's moving on with his life. For he had a point that he wanted to make, stuck to his guns, and his posts were for the most part were generally well written.

Can we get this locked now? IMO it's time to stick a fork in it.

It's like being a real GM with a time machine if you have the "historically accurate stats" checked. You know how players progress, the AI doesn't. For every Willie Mays there are 20 that don't make it, yet you KNOW which ones will. To each his own, I guess.

the mods must get some amusement with this thread, otherwise it would have been locked. There was nothing said after the first 2 days that had any meaningful input.
I for one, am getting tired of seeing my inbox littered with reply notices from "the thread that wouldn't die", just because i popped in my opinion a week ago. would some mod PLEASE end this madness? |

Save for CJ, they're all in their little 'mod huddle' trying to decide what to do. |

There was plenty of childishness from both sets of gamers. To pin it all on mking or Puresim forum members is really a bit insane. I know most of you don't believe it but mking was hoping this version of OOTP met his needs. He gave it a try and pointed out something he believes is weak, hoping something will get done with it. There are times he could work on how he delivers his message to be a little less abraisive, but I see plenty of that from OOTP forum members sometimes.
I spent a bit of time at the Puresim forums last year and 99% of the time the guys there are helpful and courtious. People have almost always been courteous with me here, so I don't really have many complaints about the OOTP forum. In general though people are quicker to attack others here and give some snarky comment. Hopefully we can all just get along and have some fun playing and talking about our games of choice. Take care, Rob |

A couple of things about this thread that I would like to comment on and, hopefully, not draw antagonistic responses.
1. I play both PureSim and OOTP 11. I like them both but for different reasons. I have written on the PureSim boards about some game aspects that I think really need looking at (such as the need for expanded in-game strategy options) and have not had the sense that they were fully being considered. That said, I look at the trading AI in OOTP 11 and believe it could be significantly improved. In my only post on the subject I wondered why we haven’t heard from Markus on this issue. My point here is that solid observations that most people generally agree with could be reconciled if the man in charge would take some time to give us his input. When this doesn’t happen frustration sets in. 2. I believe the AI could be fixed. If there is not a willingness to take the time to do so then simply state that and suggest possible house rules. I think this would be up front and give people some alternatives. Maybe even some of the knowledgeable people in this forum could come up with their house rules and put them into the forum. Perhaps the future patch will make everything right but who knows? 3. Lots of the posts in this thread were very informative and would serve as a basis to check the AI. However, it is really disconcerting to see the discussion turn into an argument (with some bad feelings evident). Seems to me that the discussion should break down into whether a problem exists, can it be fixed, how to do so, and when will it be done. If the answer is to use house rules (see point two) then that should be articulated. 4. I really don’t know what to say to those who want the thread closed. Why? It seems that there is a real problem and discussion could be helpful. Closing the thread seems to me to be a way of stifling discussion and I am not sure that is in the best interest of OOTP. Am I wrong? 5. Finally, (yes there is a finally) I reiterate that it would be great if Markus or any other member of the OOTP team would take the time to write a post talking about the AI. I really believe it would clear some things up and give everyone an idea of what will be done, if anything. OOTP is a great game and I hope it just keeps getting better. |

By popular demand, I'm closing this thread.
