I'm actually surprised that more people don't root for the Braves. I remember rooting for the Bills simply because I hated seeing them (Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas in particular) losing every year. Maybe it's because the Braves (including the big names: Jones, Jones, Smoltz) have actually won one? |

Wow, Seb, I never realized just how bad the NL has been lately until you put it like that... Thanks for the post.
But comparing the Braves to the Bills doesn't work because the Braves did indeed win one. Only one in all those years, yeah, but the Bills didn't get that much. And you know the next time they make it, that's all anyone will talk about. And I think what people hate more than anything about the constant winners is not so much that they win all the time, but that you have to hear about them all the time. Notre Dame is one of the teams you mentioned, but when was the last time they were a real contender? 1993? Am I missing a year? I'm a Braves/Falcons/Hawks fan in the South Florida market, so I hate the Marlins/Dolphins/Heat, even though the Dolphins haven't done much during my lifetime that I remember. Those teams are all I hear about, with an occasional mention of the good teams. It drives me crazy. If I moved to a different market, it may wind up the same way. But maybe now at my wizened old age I could convince myself to go with the flow and make the local teams my secondary teams. As for now, I can't get past the hate with the Miami teams. |

and you're welcome. After hanging out with, and dating one for two years, I can agree, they're the most passionate fans (and some are borderline crazy) in the States. Of course nothing can beat the hockey fans in Canada, that's just yo!

Tim Raines won his lone batting title by hitting .334 in 1986

If you get a hit once every 3 times at the plate, you're hitting .333

It's amazing in baseball if you fail 66% of the time you're an All Star.
Fail 66% of the time as a doctor and you're not a doctor anymore. Fail 66% of the time as a lawyer and you're likely behind bars yourself. Fail 66% of the time as a politician and you're guaranteed to get re-elected. It's amazing how perspectives on what's successful can be garnered in the world of sports versus the real world. |

However, now that I understand baseball a lot more, I really appreciate the way the organization has been run, and realize that I've wasted several years rooting against a quality team, as well as what was probably the greatest pitching staff of all time. |
