I have accepted Scott's invitation to produce a new facepack, or rather a development of the current facepacks. There will be an emphasis on color but hopefully will be useful to everyone as it will show black and white images. It will be organised by debut year and the goal is to try and depict photos for every team a player represented in the majors. It will be launched shortly.

I have been wondering about a couple players and I am hoping that you may know about the chances of ever seeing an image from the Vault of them. The players are Rusty Staub-Mets and Mike Marshall- either Dogers or Expos. By image I mean a posed shot not action or head shot. I have heard there were contract issues between them and Topps but don't know the whole story. (maybe you can clear up for me and others) Should I still hold out hope of them still being photographed and the images sitting in the Vault all these years even though they weren't going to be used on a card? Thanks for any insight you may have!

General Questions About Posting Images

I don't know where else to ask these, so I will ask here.

1. What are the rules about posting watermarked and autographed images? I have found some players in watermarked images from news photo archives, as well as a number of autographed images from various sources. Is it acceptable to post those here?

2. I have saved many images, and unfortunately I don't always know where I got them from. Can I post them here even if I can't give credit for my source?

First off, thanks for offering to share. This community exists because of the generosity of members sharing images from their collections. Feel free to post watermarked and/or autographed images. In general we have a rule that you don't ask for watermark removal services but sharing the watermarked images themselves is fine. In some cases another forum user may even have an unwatermarked version that your post might prompt them to share.

Some sources ask/require credit whenever their photos are used. We try to honor those requests here. If you have a photo but can't remember the source, to ahead and share it here and if someone on the forum recognizes the image as coming from one of those sources you (or I) can always go back and insert that credit in your post.

Here are some images I found of Eric Bullock with the Astros. He has been a white whale, I think. These are both Argenta-Images press photos, posted to ebay by thisgirlsnegatives. The first picture is dated 1984, and is a spring training shot. The date may be right, because Bullock was on the Astros 1983-84 winter roster even though he didn't make his MLB debut until 1985. The second picture is dated 1987. Bullock did not play for the Astros that year (he got 1 AB in '86), so perhaps this too is a spring photo.

My understanding is that Marshall did not pose for a Topps image after Spring Training, 1969 (his 1971 card and 1974 "Leading Fireman" cards feature airbrushed Pilots caps, his 1972 image was obtained from an outside source, his 1973 card and 1974 Traded cards feature an airbrushed Toledo Mudhens image from 1968). Marshall managed to get himself excluded from the Players' Association somehow in the late '70s, so his last card dates to 1976 and his file at Topps had nothing new in it past 1969.

As to Staub, he clearly not only posed with Topps as a Met during his second stint, 1981-85 (as the 1981 Traded card below shows), but he also did in 1974-75 (as the 1976 Traded card below shows - that's a Tiger airbrush over it, but it's a Mets image, at Shea). His dispute with Topps, which resulted in no Staub cards in 1972 or 1973, is unclear and in fact I've asked about it and he can't remember.

But there are Staub/Mets 1974-75 images in a box somewhere in Duryea, Pennsylvania. And they could appear any time between now and the year 3000.
