A new SAL uni sweet, I'm looking forward to seeing what you got going. Also, I love the fact that we've reached the stage where we're pitying the poor bastards who have to face the Haymakers.

New Match Records Set...........

Back in week six, Coventry Hitmen & the Oakland Assassins set a new match record for the most draws with 6 breaking the old mark of 4 set in Season 1.

Early into week 7, the Hebron Haymakers have set a new standard in a match by scoring 18 TKO/Udec. wins. The old mark was 16 set by Iceteaboxing earlier this season.

And I'm way behind on Bink Gazettes. I'll crank one out tomorrow, though the revisiting of the last 3 weeks is bound to be very painful! I'd hoped to work out a trade whereby Chris would trade his team for mine for just 1 week, but that didn't work out. At least I have the twin to his Hebron bus, and we may have that parked out front before our match to give us good luck or inspire us. But, if we lose and the Ravens win, I'll be happy for the most part. We'd just like to be competitive again! Take it easy on us, Scot, and the beer and crabcakes will be superb!

On a very positive note, me Dad turned 88 today!!! His mind is still pretty good, but his body is failing him, which is to be expected. Both my body and mind are failing me. Hooray, Dad!

Well, Hebron steamrolls through yet another opponent this week as expected...

Most of their wins are routs (5 out of 7):
Week 1: Corn Jabbers -> +25.5
Week 2: Juggernaut -> +9.5
Week 3: Nobodies -> +2
Week 4: Tornadoes -> +55.5
Week 5: Iceteaboxing -> +34
Week 6: Left Jab Inc -> +53.5
Week 7: Boxing Kangaroos -> +55.5

Which makes their ave winning margin at +33.64.

And I get to match up against them again next week. Should be fun.

Hey, that's great! My dad has some physical problems as well, included hearing loss which he doesn't admit to, but I'm just happy he's still around .

Happy birthday to your father Mike,pass along best wishes for me. I lost my mother in 04 and my father this past Feb and I miss them more than you can imagine. Cherish every moment my friend. As much as I hated losing them,I was lucky to have my mother until I was 38 and my father until I was 42 and that is a lot longer than some,so I thank my lucky stars that I had two great parents until I hit middle age. I hope your fathers are around to share many more birthdays guys(Mike and Jim). Take care fellas.

Thanks for the congratulations re my Dad's birthday, guys! We sometimes don't know what we miss until we lose them, and I lost 3 aunts this past year. I'll cherish the time my parents have left, and hope they're still here for my annual crab feast. If my Dad were a boxing fan, the performance of the Binks might be speeding him on his way to the afterlife.

Now I need to finish a Gazette or 2!

Bink Gazette Weeks 4-6 coming in Parts (Hot off press)

BINK GAZETTE January 9, 2009, Part 1

Hard times have fallen on one of Baltimore’s institutions, its boxing Binks. Their record stood at 2-1 just a month ago, the one loss by the narrowest of margins. Baltimoreans (not Balitmorons, as some wrongly call them) have had little to cheer about this decade. The football Ravens did win the Super Bowl in 2001, then struggled for a few years, but are now alive and playing tomorrow in the playoffs. However, the Orioles have suffered through losing seasons each of the last 11 or so years, and the predictions are they’ll again finish in last place this year.

The Binks went only 2-8 in their inaugural season, but charged from the gate early this year. In the last month, the Binks hosted the hated rival Diggstown Ringers, then visited Bears Unstable in Paradise City on the 27th, and capped the month by traveling to London, England, to challenge the Chilton Roughnecks on January 3. Alas, the wheels fell off the Bink bus, literally, and the Binkies dropped every match!

Diggstown continued its mastery over the Binks. The matches have all been close, but the Ringers have a little more firepower, are a little more experienced and have always come out ahead. The final results were Diggstown 16-15-1, with the edge in points, 53-46.

Chocky Chockvivat scored two late round stoppages, while fellow fly Johnny Hill punched out two majority decisions, and is proving to be a fine addition. Addition by subtraction could happen soon to Boots Monroe, who was twice stopped by the solid Ringer bantamweights! Feisty Danny O’Sullivan took both #3 Khaokor Galaxy & #17 Alimi Goitia the distance, and they were both close fights.

Jose Badillo upset #17 Welcome Ncita on a cuts stoppage, but Young Corbett II disappointed again, losing twice, one a 1st round KO! Buzzsaw Yamabe knocked out the dangerous Cornelius Boza-Edwards and took a narrow decision from now-champion Rolando Navarrete, while Bummy Davis flattened Cornelius in 5!

The Cocoa Kid was shockingly stopped on a major shot by Crisanto Espana after dominating the 1st 3 rounds, while Tommy West continued his resurgence, stopping Arturo Gatti and taking Espana to Round 9! Max Resch had a rare poor outing, but still garnered a draw that many felt he had won against Tony Chiaverini. Henry Hank avenged a series of prior losses, KOing dangerous Kelly Pavlik in 4, then winning convincingly against Chiaverini.

Light heavy Karoly Balzsay, now ranked #2, stopped Oakland Billy Smith on a 1st round KO, after KOing Melio Bettina in 7 in a hard-fought bout that had the fans on the edge of their seats. Angry, Melio put Fred Lenhart away in 6, while Billy decisioned him.

The Bink heavyweights let the team down. Young Buster Douglas showed his beginner ways, fighting hard but not wisely and being stopped by both Vassily Jirov (now #4) & Inegmar Johansson. Team captain Hasim Rahman finally got the monkey off his back by stopping Ingo via a spectacular 1st round knockout, but then was in teras after a cut forced a TKO in Round 4 against Jirov, as the Binks needed that match and the Rock had been well in control up to that point!

Chocky and Buzzsaw Yamabe were Co-fighters of the Week, with young Johnny Hill close behind! Boots Monroe once again “won” Bum of the Week honors. His picture might be in the dictionary next to that phrase! Young Corbett II also "ranked" up there.

The Binks congratulated Thunder and his Ringers, but were left to ponder what might have happened with a little tweaking!

BINK GAZETTE January 9, 2009, Part 2

Mack Lewis was calm after the Diggstown match, saying that his boys had fought well, with one exception, and that the match could easily have gone the Binks’ way. However, he was livid the next week when the Binks were leaving to meet Bear and his squad, as it was discovered that the Bink bus, the twin to that of the Hebron Haymakers, had been tampered with and wouldn’t run! Suspicion fell on the Ringers, as several of them were loitering around the bus before their match, remarking on how it looked just like the Hebron bus, and all knew their sympathies were with a fellow Connecticut team!

As a result, the Binks had to find alternate transportation and were late in getting to the match. Even worse, ring girl Amina Sade was unable to make the trip, as were the Bink mascots, as the last-minute replacement bus had limited seating! After the late arrival, the wheels were off the Binks’ finely-tuned fighting machine, and bad things happened.

The Unstable flyweights were imposing, but Johnny Hill fought well until a 10th round KO by now #3 Yoko Gushiken, and Chocky Chockvivat lost a close decision to Terry Allen, a decision that could possibly have been influenced if the Bink mascot or Amina Sade were at ringside. Boots Monroe was Monroed (KOd) in 4 by Jose Becerra, but spunky Danny O’Sullivan got a 5th round TKO to stop the bleeding temporarily, but the Binks ended up the first half down 9-7, by a points margin of 29-21.5.
Mack Lewis was worried, because he noticed during the break that the Binks seemed tired and listless, some of it attributable to their long trip on the replacement bus in cramped quarters. His fears were realized in the second half, as the fine Unstable contingent took advantage of the Bink malaise and rang up an impressive 10-4-2 advantage, giving them a landslide 19-11-2, with points 63.5-35, win!

It was a major whipping, reminiscent of the prior year against the Haymakers and Brooks Battlers, but the meltdown this time was a 2nd half one. Chocky lost a close decision to Gushiken, and Hill fought a spirited bout, getting a draw against Allen, but there were few star performers.

Bootsie Monroe was stopped again, and our feathers, Young Corbett II and Jose Badillo, were no match for Ruben Olivares and Enrique Sanchez. Battling Bummy Davis rang up 2 wins, one a TKO over now #20 Andy Ganigan, and Buszzsaw Yamabe split, stopping Justin Juuko.

Tommy West continued to impress, upsetting both Kid Azteca and Vivian Harris, getting a KO over Harris! Cocoa Kid was held to a draw by Azteca, and boos were heard from the gentlemanly Bear crowd!

Alas, the middleweights finished 0-4. Henry Hank was even with champion Steve Belloise until a cut resulted in a stoppage, then Edward Lausse compounded his misfortunes by catching him with a hook to get a KO in Round 6! Max Resch fought hard, but went down in 8 and 11, respectively, but not respectfully.

The fly, bantam, feather and middleweight classes went a combined 1-14-1, and that was that, as the Bear light heavies and heavies performed above their levels and split their matches. #5 Alvaro Lopez took both Melio Bettina and Oakland Billy Smith out, Billy lasting until the 11th. Melio stopped Vitali Kopitko on cuts and Billy won a majority decision against him.

Herbie Hide was easy meat for both Hasim Rahman and Buster Douglas, but Lou Savarese came from behind to knock out the Rock after trailing through 8 rounds, and Lou schooled young Buster in taking a close decision.

Tommy West and Bummy Davis shared Fighter of the Week honors. It’s probably hard to believe, but Boots Monroe and Yound Corbett II shared the Bum of the Week honors – AGAIN!

The Binks were extremely disappointed, as to date they had fared decently against the Unstablers. It was going to be a long drive back to Baltimore, as the Binks reflected on how they had been chopped down to size and humbled by Bear’s fine squad.

Bear was a gracious winner, offering to host the Binks for a night of food and drink, but the Binks felt they’d eaten plenty already, albeit Unstable leather, and they elected to start on the dreary ride back to Baltimore after having their dreams of glory effectively extinguished.

Did the bus ride with cramped quarters affect the Bink performance? Did the spirited match with Diggstown take too much out of the Binks? Did the absence of Amina Sade and the mascot(s) contribute? Are the consummate fighters from Bears Unstable that much better? Who knows, but we’ll get them again when they come to Baltimore!

Bink fever, catch it! You’ll only wish you died!
