second longest current title reign ends
February 2, 1912
Main Event LW - Frank Erne (7/CH) (23-8-2) scored a TKO11 over Arthur Chambers (CH/3) (23-4-1) to win the WBA LW title for the second time. Chambers won the title in September of 1910 and defended it 6 times, only Frank Klaus has a longer reign currently. Erne controlled the fight from the opening bell only losing the 2nd and the 5th round. He dropped Chambers in the 10th and the 11th and the ref stopped the fight late in the 11th round. I had it 98-91 at the stoppage. Other bouts LW - Young Erne (92/86) (18-10) UD10 Irish Jack Smith (112/115) (11-13) (smith at pre) BW - Al Delmont (14/12) (24-11-3) KO9 Joe O'Leary (41/47) (11-9-2) HW - Jeff Clark (32/21) (15-3-1) UD10 Pearl Hopkins (63/74) (10-6-1) (hopkins at pre) HW - Bill Doherty (77/63) (17-16-2) KO10 Bob Armstrong (35/59) (28-15-5) MW - Hugo Kelly (82/70) (23-17-1) TKO9 Tony Caponi (61/77) (14-10) (caponi at pre) Last edited by mh2365; 05-01-2007 at 01:30 PM. |

Too bad about Chambers, I love long reigns but they do not happen all that often.

Yeah I hate it when they end. Frank Klaus has been champ since 9/09 and has 8 title defenses.
Langford would probably be my second longest now. He has defended his WBA title 5 times. At the end of this month I will list all the champs and how long they have been champion. Last edited by mh2365; 05-01-2007 at 09:06 AM. |

Another title changes hands
February 3, 1912
Main Event BW - Terrible Terry McGovern (10/CH) (37-8-4) won the WBA BW title for the 5th time by battering Jimmy Barry (CH/14) (19-4) and stopping him with a TKO11. McGovern dominated the fight but Barry stayed in it due to fouls. McGovern was warned 5 times and had points taken away twice. I was suprised it wasn't stopped. Barry's left eye started swelling in the 4th and he was dropped in the 11th. He got up and was pounded until the ref stopped the fight. I had it 95-93 at the stoppage. Regional Title LH - Seaman Johnson (15/13) (16-5) (pre) scored a TKO11 over Jewey Smith (61/62) (10-7-4) (pre) to retain the AABU LH title. It was Johnson's 3rd defense of the regional title and his 6th straight win. Johnson was cut over the left eye in the first and his cut team did a great job on it. It was reopened twice but the he stayed in the fight. He cut Smith over the right eye in the 10th and it was reopened in the 11th and the fight was stopped. Smith filed a complaint with the commissioner but since he was way behind (I had it 99-93) it was thrown out. Other fights LH - Bob Sweeney (UR) (7-0) (pre) scored a KO7 over JH Brown (club) (17-21-4) (post) to remain unbeaten. Sweeney dropped Brown in the first and then twice in the 7th. I had it 60-53 at the stoppage. HW - Larry Foley (8/7) (30-9-3) UD10 Billy Woods (76/84) (19-15-2) LW - Ad Wolgast (45/35) (18-10) TKO10 Barney Donovan (76/85) (26-22-2) (Donovan at post) HW - John Morrissey (18/17) (14-4) DQ10 Charley Mann (81/93) (13-4) (both at pre) |

February 9, 1912
Main Event LH - Charles McCoy (2/CH) (34-9-3) scored a KO6 over Fred Russell (1/4) (20-9) to win the new IBF LHW title. McCoy has won a title in two divisions now. McCoy was cut badly over the right eye in the 2nd round. It was reopened in the 4th and the 5th. Knowing that if it was opened again the fight would probably be stopped he took care of business and KO'd Russell in the 6th. I had it 49-46 at the stoppage. Other fights HW - Ranji Burns (65/39) (10-5-1) (pre) stopped George Cotton (UR) (10-1-2) (pre) in the 9th round to ruin Cotton's undefeated record. Burns was in control early in the fight with Cotton coming on strong at the end. They both were cut and Cotton's got worse and caused the fight to be stopped. I had it 76-76 at the stoppage. WW - Spike Kelly (UR) (11-0) (pre) held on to win a MD10 over George Milton (63/66) (10-10-1) to remain unbeaten. Kelly had a big lead but then ran out of gas. Milton had no power, otherwise he would of easily stopped Kelly. I had it 96-94, the official judges saw it 97-93/95-95/96-94. LW - Battling Nelson (15/14) (28-16-1) KO7 Yank Kenny (79/87) (11-9) (kenny at pre) LW - Kid McPartland (88/81) (23-21-4) UD10 Ed Jessop (97/102) (7-9-4) (jessop at pre) HW - Mike Schreck (101/72) (27-18) UD10 Jim Savage (35/73) (15-4) (savage at pre) |

February 10, 1912
Main Event WW - Kyle Whitney (9/7) (19-5-5) scored a KO10 over Battling Hurley (11/15) (17-2-1) (pre) to win the vacant USBA WW title. The title was vacated when Britton won the world title. Whitney dominated the fight opening a cut over Hurley's right eye in the second and dropping Hurley twice in the 10th and final round. I had it 88-83 at the stoppage. Other fights LH - Gus Christie (UR) (6-0-1) stepped up to LHW and scored a MD8 over Chris Pearson (club) (10-21-3) to remain unbeaten. Pearson got in a few decent rounds but for the most part Christie was never in danger. Not knockdowns or cuts. I had it 77-75, the official judges had it 77-75/76-76/77-75. MW - Bob Turnball (37/37) (16-3-2) fought to a boring DRAW10 with Tom Henry (86/86) (9-9-4). Neither fighter was down or cut and neither took control of the fight. I had it 96-95 for Turnball, the official judges had it 95-95/96-94/94-96. FW - Tommy O'Toole (17/13) (14-3) TKO6 Jim Keeley (69/71) (10-12-2) (o'toole at pre) BW - Kid Williams (UR) (11-1) UD10 Charley Parton (25/34) (14-7-1) (both at pre) FW - Tommy White (35/28) (16-9-3) UD10 Doc Hollywood (25/34) (13-3) (hollywood at pre) |

Huge Upset
February 16, 1912
Main Event FW - Kid Herman Landfield (11/CH) (17-14-3) pulled off a huge upset scoring a SD15 over Johnny Kilbane (CH/3) (22-3-1) to win the WBC FW title. Kilbane seemed to take control of the fight in the middle rounds winning the 8,9, and 10th, but then Landfield came back and took the 11th-14th. I thought with the champ bias set on the judges that Kilbane still might have pulled it off but he did not. There were no cuts or knockdowns. I had it 143-142 Landfield, the official judges had it 141-144/144-142/143-142. Regional Title LH - Bob McAllister (10/7) (19-2) destroyed Mike Boden (17/23) (15-3-5) in route to a TKO4. Boden was down in the 3rd, had both eyes swelling shut and was cut over the right eye. I had it 29-27 at the stoppage. Other fights WW - Pat Bradley (UR) (7-0) (pre) scored an undeserved UD8 over Frank Solomon (club) (3-26-2) to remain unbeaten. Solomon won the last two rounds to take the fight in many observers eyes. I had it 77-76 Solomon, all three judges had it 77-76 the other way. Many boos were heard. BW - Frankie Burns (18/16) (19-4-1) TKO6 Charley Kelly (17/20) (14-12-2) BW - Harry Tenney (13/10) (21-8-3) KO2 Chappie Moran (21/28) (22-23-3) (moran at post) MW - Bill Gabig (37/32) (15-1-3) UD10 Scaldy Bill Quinn (55/60) (14-16-2) (Quinn stepped up to WW for this fight) |

He should get some solid fights as USBA champ. Levinsky and Gibbons post the biggest threats to his regional title, but both are still pre-prime. Dillon is a USBA group member but I don't see him losing his world titles anytime soon. |

Main Event HW - While on paper it looked as though Sam Langford (CH) (32-6-2) would have a tough title bout, Langford cruised to a KO12 over James Corbett (5/5) (34-11-3) for his 3rd defense of the IBF title. His WBA and WBC title were not at risk. Langford dominated the fight. He opened a cut on Corbett's forehead in the 3rd round and Corbett couldn't shake it off. It was reopened four times. Corbett's right eye started swelling in the 7th and he was dropped in the 11th. Langford KO'd him in the 12th. I had it 108-101 at the stoppage. Langford had been warned 4 times for fouls .. it was the theme of the Card. Other Fights LW - Bobby Dobbs (UR) (14-0) cruised to a UD10 over Jack Lynch (73/80) (15-6) to remain unbeaten. The outcome was never in doubt and Dobbs dropped Lynch in the 8th and 9th round to seal it. I had it 98-90 as did all 3 official judges. HW - James Dalton (club) (17-23-6) (post) scored a DQ4 over Jess Willard (UR) (7-1) (pre)to knock Willard from the unbeaten list. This was a well deserved DQ as Willard was warned 5 times and penalized once before the ref stopped it. I had it 29-27 Willard when the bout was called. FW - Jack Greenstock (UR) (6-0-1) (pre) got a gift as the ref DQ's Jack Roberts (club) (7-19-2) without any warning or penalties. Roberst was dominating the fight at the time. I had him ahead 59-54 whent he ref stopped it. The commissioner (me) has suspended the referee and ordered an immediate rematch between the two, which will take place in April. WW - Dixie Kid (21/18) (25-16-5) UD10 Paddy Duffy (28/31) (20-18-4) (duffy at post) BW - Billy Plimmer (5/5) (26-15-6) UD10 Joe Wagner (29/34) (19-17) |

Tough month on champs
February 23, 1912
Main Event WW - George Cole (2/CH) (18-10-4) scored a KO14 over Wildcat Ferns (CH/10) (21-7) to win both the WBA and WBC WW titles. Ferns suffered a knockdown in the first but kept himself in the fight the rest of the way. The fight was in the balance when Cole dropped Ferns for good in the 14th. No other cuts or swellings. I had it 124-123 Cole at the stoppage as did all the official judges. Regional Title BW - Young Hundreds (UR/34) (11-2-2) (pre) was robbed a bit but ended up with a DRAW12 over Jimmy Anthony (35/35) (14-7-3) to retain his CBU BW title. Hundreds overcame a rocky start and seemed to have won the fight. There was swelling on Hundreds right eye and Anthony was cut below his in the 10th. I had it 115-113 Hundreds, while the official judges had it 114-114/114-114/113-115. Other fights LW - Phil Bloom (UR) (7-0-1) (pre) scored an MD8 over Harry Scroggs (UR/111) (pre) to remain unbeaten. One judge was blind and in love with Scroggs as Bloom dominated the fight. I had it 78-74 for Bloom as did two of the official judges, the third had it even. HW - Sam McVey (34/33) (31-8) KO6 Jimmy Gardner (119/club) (8-13-1) (Gardner at pre, moved to prime and dropped to club with the loss) FW - Oscar Gardner (6/3) (23-6-1) KO8 Billy Ryan (42/53) (15-9-1) MW - Jimmy Murray (9/5) (17-3-1) UD10 Tom Norton (26/33) (14-3) (norton at pre) |

Main Event LW - Young Griffo (CH) (38-8-6) kept his IBF title with a UD15 over Harry Lyons (6/7) (35-18-1) to go to 4-1 over Lyons. Griffo dominated the first 2/3rds of the fight winning 9 of the first 10 rounds. Lyons came on late including knocking Griffo down in the 15th but it was too little too late. I had it 145-140, while the official judges had it 144-142/143-142/145-140. Regional Title LHW - Billy McColl (27/22) (17-13-1) destroyed Seargeant Sunshine (UR) (8-3) (pre) in route to a KO6 to retain the CBU LHW title. Sunshine was cut under the right eye in the first and KO'd in the 6th. I had it 50-45 at the stoppage. Other fights LH - Irish Gorgas (UR) (13-0) (pre)struggled against Jack McAuley (33/42) (16-8-3) but managed to stop him in the 8th to remain undefeated. I had it 68-65 for McAuley before the KO in the 8th. BW - Lee Johnson (UR) (8-0-1) (pre) scored a MD8 over Harry Ware (club) (12-18-3) to remain unbeaten. It was a close and competitive fight and could've gone either way. I had 76-76, the official judges 77-75/76-76/77-75. MW - Jack McCarron (UR) (13-0-1) (pre) struggled to remain unbeaten but did pull out the win over Jack Fitzgerald (82/84) (11-12-1). It was even after 6 then McCarron pulled away a bit. I had it 97-95, while the official judges had it 97-95/96-96/97-95. WW - Tom Meadows (45/36) (13-7) TKO10 Buddy Ryan (27/41) (15-18) |

Good for Young Griffo - Kalink will have to carry on rooting for him given that I'm done with the light-hitting former Haymaker.
