It would be wonderful to see the rest of the 1884 Hoosiers team photo as a number of their starters remain missing players, i.e Pat Callahan, Larry McKeon, Ed Merrill

Interestingly I had the John Dailey image in my collection but somehow it had escaped my attention that it had not been included in the 1875 photo pack, your posting is a much clearer version. Thank you for this and the info about Lou Leggett.

1984 Indianapolis Hoosiers

I agree with you that it would be great to have the whole 1984 Indianapolis Hoosiers team photo. Unfortunately, John Griffith doesn't possess it. He will try to obtain a copy from the person from whom he was able to get the Charles Reising extraction. We'll just have to wait and see.

Tubby Spencer 1905

The attached image was identified at source as Les Burke 1926.

My initial thought was that it was Stanage but on further review I believe it to be Tubby Spencer I would be grateful if that identification could be confirmed or if incorrect an alternate identification of the correct player.

Thank you.

1. Wow, Pete Rose wearing #27, never saw a non-14 before.

2. Thanks Cusick for the specifics in ID'ing the Robert Thomson pic.

3. Thanks Merkle for your info, re: Chisox uniforms, and for ID'ing that ToppsVault pic as /Berman Bob 'Drop The' Chlupsa. /endBerman

Though Baseball-Reference says Chlupsa was traded to SD for Mike Fiore, it appears (per an old Spartanburg Herald) that they were separate cash deals. Fiore was returned to StL a few weeks later.

Does anyone have a Fiore photo in a Padres uniform?

4. In 1978, Fiore played for Columbus Clippers, the Pirates' AAA team. Anyone have a Pirates photo of Fiore? May have to wait for a ToppsVault version to pop up.

Lots of familiar names on the 1978 Clippers TCMA card set.

Tubby Spencer 1905

UKBaseballFan, I think you are correct. The flag on the Detroit player's sleeve identifies this as a 1917 uniform. That narrows the possibilities to catchers Oscar Stanage, Tubby Spencer, and Archie Yelle (unless it was a spring training photo of someone who didn't make the regular season roster). The player doesn't look like Stanage or Yelle to me. I've attached a photo of a younger Tubby Spencer in a St. Louis Browns uniform, showing him with a similar expression on his face.

Mystery Yankee

Can anyone identify this mystery Yankee please. Identified at source as Jack Sheehan. My first thought was possibly Tom Sheehan but the uniform is not a match for the Yankees 21 uniform.

Thank you.

The photo in question is neither Stanage nor Spencer. It is coach Jimmy Burke.

In the rarest of Red Sox garb - the red/front panel, black/side panels cap, introduced in May and dropped in June (I believe) of 1974 after player, fan, management, and media protest.

There are a few of these in player head shots on the cover of the '75 Red Sox uniform, but they're about 3/4 of an inch square. Don't recall seeing any other portraits in these unpopular caps.

Hey, i'm working on a history project for the Cardinals, and i am seriously interested in this 1923 uniform i've seen posted earlier in the thread. i'm definitely convinced that it's 23 due to the number on sleeve, but we're most curious about the bird on chest. For now we believe it is the same bird that was used on sleeve on the 22 alternate jersey, the previous season. if anyone has clearer photos of that uniform, please post or message me, it would be greatly greatly appreciated. Thanks.
