I really hope we see a lineup shakeup this weekend with Chavez out of the #3 spot. He needs to be hitting #6 or 7 for a few games to take the pressure off. I'd entertain letting Kotsay hit 3rd and letting Kendall lead off.

Actually...I'd like to see Byrnes leadoff for a couple of games. He's been hitting better and maybe he's the spark we need to get the game going early.
Agreed, move Chavy down the order for a few games and hit Kotsay at #3. I'd like to see something like this for the next couple of games: LF Byrnes C Kendall CF Kotsay 1B Hatte RF Kielty DH Durazo 3B Chavez SS Scutaro 2B Ellis Even putting Scooter in the 2 spot wouldn't hurt...he's cooled off somewhat in May...but, giving him a shot to hit early in the game might not be a bad thing with him having one of the better OBP on the team so far this year.

If you aren't watching the A's game........DON'T. Avoid looking at all costs.

So have you A's fans given up on this season or are you hoping Beane pulls another rabbit out of his hat?

This is pretty much the season I expected so far. They were going to take their lumps. It was sort of shocking to see the entire team mire in a slump to start the season but its a long year and I hope that the ship will right and at least get back to .500

Yeah, sounds like your expectations are about right. I think they are a year, maybe two, away. The lineup is good enough to win with right now (though they certainly haven't shown it so far), especially once Crosby comes back. The pitching staff will take their lumps but they have more than enough talent there. This is kind of a building year, no?

I said all winter that the A's have no chance and I was shouted down everytime I said that.
Beane is very good at what he does but no team is immune from rebuilding years. |

Whats he going to sell? Dotel is probably the only player that will get much interest. Other than Zito that is but I really don't see Beane trading Zito this year.
I liked the pitching moves getting rid of Hudson/Mulder. Its too bad the offense tanked this year, now all the anti-Beane idiots are going to be running there mouths more than ever. If you still had Hudson/Mulder the team would still be terrible but the 'baseball geniuses' aren't smart enough to understand that. Listening to the Yankee announcers discuss the 'moneyball' philosophy during the blowout tonight was nearly unbearable.

Dotel will be the first to go and I doubt it'll take until the deadline to do it. Byrnes is the other obvious one...but, at this point, he isn't worth anything at all and there is no sense in dumping him for a bag of balls...hopefully by the break he's turned his season around and he can land us a prospect or two.
I hope the A's start a little youth movement...get Johnson up there somehow and give him a crack at the lineup...he's done nothing but prove he deserves just that. Give Watson more time out in the outfield and see what the kid can do...can't be any worse than what's out there now...right??

I'm not expecting greatness this year, but the recent slide has been really frustrating, especially since it doesn't seem much has been done to shake this team up (aside from the Watson callup).
As for trades, I can see Byrnes and Dotel being moved by the deadline, but I bet Zito will be an A at least through the end of this year. FWIW, I'm not going to give up on my team in May, regardless of how bad it is. |

What's new the A's only have one hit, but a single, walk, HBP, single give the Sox a 2-0 lead.

Well, what do you know. Finally a win! It's been over a week and I almost forgot what it feels like.
As an added bonus, I can take joy in the fact that many people picked Boston to win in the Pick the Winners contest. Good to see the new guy Watson do well. With both Keilty and Swisher down, now is his shot. |

I thought the A's would blow it again when Dotel missed the bag in the 9th inning. Whew, it makes you realize how fast your heart can beat, doesn't it?

Yup...finally, a win...an ugly one...but a win is a win.
Good to hear that Crosby and Swisher are going to be back shortly and hopefully they can help right this tugboat.

Offense looks like it may be coming to life tonight. Hopefully this trend will carry on.

Some questions...
Why can Billy Beane not get 4-6 guys who are capable of pitching 1 full inning without sucking? Is Juan Cruz Spanish for "Nuke Laloosh"? Million dollar arm and a 10 cent head right there. When will Huston Street be given the closers role? And the setup role? And the middle relief role? And the mop-up role? Can we just clone this guy 5 times? What is wrong with Zito? Does anybody else want to kill Chavez? Does anybody else want to kill him/herself for picking Chavez for AL MVP? What the F*** was Eric Byrnes doing? |

Holy crap the A's have scored twice in the first inning.
Make it three on a Hatteberg double. Any more and I may pass out. THUD. Ok this is just getting ridiculous. I hope they save some offense for the rest of the season.

Dotel was unavailable and is on his way to LA today for his elbow. Cruz was gassed. Totally agree with this. Street is insane. Don't know. Strangest 3 hit performance in a long time. 1-2 with a HR and 4 RBI today. Not really. Checking for holes in his glove. Found one.
