Arrow Game 66: Boston Red Sox vs. Chicago White Sox

A great match-up of two outstanding pitchers in Houck and Crochet ended with a nail biting 9th inning. On the day, the Boston Red Sox (36-30) prevailed over the Chicago White Sox (30-37) by a 3 to 1 score.

Tanner Houck (8-3) picked up the win by limiting the home team to two (2) harmless singles while striking out 9 in 8 innings of play; Game Score 87. Liam Hendriks (SV 10) picked up the save but did give up 1 earned run on 2 hits. Of Note, Houck was recognized as MLB's #1 Performance of the Day. On offense, the Red Sox were led by Tyler O'Neill (2 for 3, Homerun, Run, 2 RBI, Walk) and Tommy Edman (1 for 3, RBI).

Chicago starter Garrett Crochet (6-6) was burdened with the loss despite allowing just 1 earned run on 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 10 in 7 innings of work; Game Score 72. John Brebbia was ineffective in his efforts, as he allowed 2 earned runs on 2 hits in 2 innings of relief work. Offense came from Luis Robert Jr. (1 for 4, Double, Run) and Eloy Jimenez (1 for 3, RBI).

You Get a Walk, You Get a Walk, You Get a Walk...

I stumbled across an absolute crazy box score in the Florida Complex League involving the Boston (FCL) Red Sox and Houston (FCL) Astros Blue. Aside from the completely lopsided score of 31 to 1, the Astros issued 24 walks and 18 hits. YIKES!

On the offensive side of things, Matt Duffy had the most impressive linescore of 5 for 7 with 2 Doubles, Homerun, 4 Runs, 8 RBI, and a Walk, though Nelson Taylor (1 for 3, Homerun, 4 Runs, 2 RBI, 5 Walks) was impressive. For the opposing pitching, Nehomar Ochoa Jr. faced 9 batters in the 1st inning and failed to record an out; allowing 3 hits and 6 walks that resulted in 9 earned runs -- Game Score -6.

Arrow Game 67: Philadelphia Phillies vs. Boston Red Sox

Riding an 8-game win streak and owning the best record in baseball, it was not a huge surprise that the visiting Philadelphia Phillies (44-22) bested the Boston Red Sox (36-31) by a 6 to 1 score.

Philadelphia starter Aaron Nola (10-3) tossed a great game, as he permitted just 1 earned run on 8 hits and 1 hit batsman while striking out 8 in 9 innings of work; Game Score 75. At the plate, the Phillies were led by Bryson Stott (3 for 5, Double, Triple, 2 Runs, 3 RBI), Johan Rojas (3 for 4, 2 Runs, 2 Stolen Bases), and Bryce Harper (2 for 5, Homerun, Run, RBI).

The Red Sox hope rested with Kutter Crawford (3-6) who pitched a solid game but allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits and 3 walks while striking out 12 in 6 innings of play; Game Score 57. Ryne Stanek covered the next 2 innings of relief but did permit 1 earned run on 2 hits while striking out 4 in 2 innings. Arrow Game 68: Philadelphia Phillies vs. Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox out hit and arguably out pitched the visiting Phillies, yet at the end of the day it was the red-hot Philadelphia Phillies (45-22) extend their winning streak to 10 games with the 1 to 0 victory over the Boston Red Sox (36-32).

Picking up the win was Philly starter Ranger Suarez (6-5) who tossed 8 2/3 innings of shutout ball in which he scattered 8 hits and 3 walks while striking out 6; Game Score 71. Jose Alvarado (SV 21) worked the final out of the game to record the save. At the plate, Brandon Marsh (2 for 3, Double, RBI) and J.T. Realmuto (1 for 3, Run) played well in victory.

Garrett Whitlock (3-5) was tagged with the loss despite allowing just 1 earned run on 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 11 in 7 2/3 innings of play; Game Score 75. Nick Pivetta worked 1/3 of an inning in scoreless fashion before Liam Hendriks tossed a scoreless / hitless final inning. For Boston, Pablo Reyes (3 for 4, Stolen Base), Tristan Casas (1 for 2, 2 Walks), Masataka Yoshida (2 for 4), and Rafael Devers (1 for 4, Double) saw the ball well today.

Arrow Game 69: Philadelphia Phillies vs. Boston Red Sox

A rewarding (and much needed) win for the home team against arguably the best team in MLB. On the day, the Boston Red Sox (37-32) posted an 8 to 4 score to prevail over the Philadelphia Phillies (45-23).

A sufficient outing from Boston starter Brayan Bello (9-5) in which he permitted 4 earned runs on 10 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3 in 7 innings of play; Game Score 43. Nick Pivetta (SV 3) performed well in the closer role with 2 shutout innings in which he allowed just 1 hit and struckout 2 while facing 7 batters. At the plate, Tristan Casas (1 for 2, Homerun, 3 Runs, 3 RBI, 3 Walks), Rafael Devers (2 for 5, Double, Homerun, 2 Runs, 3 RBI), Masataka Yoshida (2 for 4, Double, 2 Runs, Walk) had a great day. Of Note, Casas was recognized as MLB's #2 Performance of the Day.

Starter Spencer Turnbull (5-3) was tagged with the loss after he was knocked from the game after just 4 innings due to allowing 5 earned runs on 4 hits and 5 walks while striking out just 1; Game Score 30. Taijuan Walker covered the next 3 1/3 innings in which he permitted 1 earned run on 3 hits, 1 walk, and 1 hit batsman. Matt Strahm covered the final 2/3 innings but was knocked around for 2 earned runs on 2 hits. Leading the Philadelphia offense was Kyle Schwarber (2 for 3, Double, Homerun, Run, 3 RBI, Walk), Bryce Harper (3 for 4, RBI), and Alec Bohm (2 for 4, Double, Run).

Player of the Game: Tristan Casas (Season: #1)

Arrow Game 71: New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox

A late, 9th inning rally came up just short as the home team fell to their historic rivals. By a 4 to 3 score, the visiting New York Yankees (38-35) topped the Boston Red Sox (38-33).

New York starter Carlos Rodon (8-5) tossed a fine game in which he allowed just 1 earned run on 7 hits and 1 walk while striking out 12 in 8 innings of work; Game Score 75. Clay Holmes (SV 22) was called into wrap things up in the final inning and while he did ultimately record the save, he was knocked around for 2 earned runs on 4 hits and a walk in 1 inning of play. Austin Wells (2 for 3, Homerun, Run, RBI, Hit-by-Pitch), Jasson Dominguez (2 for 4, Double, Run), and Alex Verdugo (2 for 4, Double, RBI) had a solid day at the plate.

Tanner Houck (8-4) was saddled with the loss after he permitted 4 earned runs on 10 hits and 1 hit batsman while striking out 9 in 7 innings of play; Game Score 50. Justin Slaten covered the final 2 innings without allowing any further scoring.
