2025 - Report #64

Cal McVey picked up 6 hits in a wild 17 inning game in which the St Louis Cardinals defeated the Newark Thieves 9-3 at Frank Sinatra Grounds. McVey got up 9 times in the game and collected his 6 hits as St Louis scored 7 runs in the 17th inning to win the game. Chad Tracy had 4 hits to go along with McVey's big game. Smokey Robinson the 40 year old Motown singer had 4 hits in the game for the losing Newark Thieves. Erick Fedde of Newark gave up most of the runs in the 17th inning. For the Redbirds it was their 14th win in a row but they are still 3 games behind the Tulsa Rattlers in 2nd place in the NL Midwest as Tulsa has won 10 straight themselves.

It was a big day also for Mike Tiernan of the Texas Rangers as he slugged his 300th career homer. The homer came against the Foxwoods Colonials on the road at Grand Pequot Stadium as Texas won the game 5-0. It was Tiernan's 30th homer of the season and it came off of trust fund brat Roman Roy. Tiernan now has 300 homers and 383 career stolen bases. He has played all 7 seasons for the Rangers.

Heathcliff Slocumb announced today he will call it a career at the end of the season for the Dayton Mud Hens. Slocumb is much traveled as a reliever and had 40 saves in 2019 for the New York Yankees. He is 36 years old and has only appeared in 3 games this year for Dayton.

Bob Bailey hit a cycle today but his team the Fargo Horsemen took a beating in extra innings 13-5 to the Bermuda Seawolves at home in North Dakota. Bailey goes 4 for 7 and drives in 2 runs but Bermuda smoked 8 runs in the top of the 14th to triumph over Fargo. Candy Maldonado had 4 hits and 3 RBI's while Justin Sellers had 2 hits and 3 RBI's for the winning team. Both teams are going nowhere this season. All 8 runs in the 14th came across Dennis Musgraves

It was announced today NBA'er and starting pitcher Reggie Miller will retire at the end of the season. Miller has struggled at 3-13 this season for the Rochester Surge and now at 39 years old has run out of gas. Miller is 68-73 and won 15 games in 2022 for the Tampa Bay Rays. He will work for TNT for NBA games again.

The Chicago White Sox are trying to make a run at the Cleveland Indians in the AL Central and bolstered their rotation by trading for Nathan Eovaldi from the World Champion Cincinnati Reds. The Reds get back CF Dino Restelli and SP Vern Ruhle. Eovaldi was 9-5 this year and has 92 career wins for the Reds over 7 seasons. White Sox are in 2nd place in the AL Central 7 games behind Cleveland. Cincinnati is in 2nd place in the NL Central trailing the Chicago Cubs by 4 games. Reds had too much depth and former 20 game winner in 2023 Gene Bearden was stuck on the farm. Restelli will play CF every day for Cincy.

Aubrey Huff has a new home as he was traded today by the Barcelona Magicians to the Spokane Gangsters with catcher Greg Myers in a deal for Gil Garrido and SP Tony Kaufmann. Huff had 14 homers for Barcelona and will be the starting third baseman for Spokane who are 12 games out in the AL Pacific behind the Seattle Mariners.

2025 - Report #66

It was no hitter time again, this time in Tijuana as Bill McGunnigle tosses a no hitter for the Tijuana Pelicans at home against the Halifax Eclipse. It wa the 12th no hitter in 2025 as Tijuana triumphed 4-0. It was the first no hitter in Tijuana Pelicans history and first time the Halifax Eclipse have been held hitless. McGunnigle fans 9 batters in the game and improves to 12-8 on the 2025 season. His only blemish was a walk to Chris Parmelee, also Dick Groat committed an error to prevent the perfect game. Del Crandall hit a big 2 run homer in the game for Tijuana and Peanuts Lowrey drove in another 2 runs. Both teams have improved this year and are in the middle of the packs of their respective divisions.

American League Player of the week this week goes to Podge Weihe of the Kansas City Royals. Weihe hit 6 homers and drove in 10 runs and batted 11 for 23 to win the award. Kansas City is 71-41 in 4th place in the AL Midwest 13 games behind the Minnesota Twins.

Hanley Ramirez won the NL Player of the Week award for the second time this season for the Pittsburgh Pirates as he goes 14 for 30 and slams 5 homers and drives in 14 runs. Pirates are 69-43 and are in 5th place in the NL Central trailing the Chicago Cubs by 11 games.

Today was a huge day for Smoky Burgess of the San Diego Padres as he hit for the cycle in a 17-5 squashing of the Newark Thieves at Petco. Burgess went 4 for 5 and drove in 6 runs to lead the attack. Burgess improved his batting average to .313 on the season. Curt Blefary and Lou Boudreau added 4 hits each for the Padres as they jumped all over Mark Gubicza of Newark in this game. Neither team has postseason aspirations this season.

Singer and infielder Enrique Iglesias is much traveled and today the Fargo Horsemen traded him to the Delaware Big Train for 2B Jerry Schypinski, also coming over to Delaware is 3B Pete Sweeney. Iglesias was hitting .282 this year for Fargo with 48 RBI's not bad for a singles hitter. Delaware is 56-58 so the deal really isn't going to move the needle.

Freddie Patek found himself traded again as he is heading to the Vancouver Men-O-War while catcher Ray Mueller is going to the Cheyenne Black Aces. Patek has over 1000 career hits. Vancouver is 72-42 this year so a wildcard berth is not unrealistic.

2025 - Report #68

A busy day of trading today

Homer Bailey has found his way to the Cincinnati Reds in 2025 via trade this time from the Orlando Alliance. The defending world champion Reds got back Grant Jackson and sent catcher Jack Doyle back to Orlando. Doyle was the one time starting catcher for Cincinnati but lost job to Jake Stahl. The Reds are in 2nd place in the NL Central and have pulled two games back of the Chicago Cubs. Bailey was effective for his first 6 years with the Cleveland Indians.

The Boise Parrots reacquired hitman Vincent Vegas today in a trade with the Lagos Hammerheads. Vega at 38 years old was hitting .336 for Lagos and he returns to Boise with 1039 career hits. Vega has been a solid singles hitter Boise is 69-46 in 4th place in the NL West but 15 games back. Vega was happy to leave Lagos as he could not find a Cheeseburger royale.

NHL forward and power hitter Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has been traded by the Jones Beach Jets to the Maine Attack in exchange for 2B Justin Baughmann and RP Robert Stephenson. Nugent-Hopkins has 160 career homers mostly hit over 6 years for the Las Vegas Snake Eyes. Neither team is going anywhere in their sophomore seasons.

The Charlotte Spiders acquired Brian Tollberg from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for CF Milt Byrnes and RP Charlie Wiedemeyer. Tollberg was 60-33 in 6 seasons with the Angels but has been in the bullpen the past 2 seasons and now will be a starting pitcher for Charlotte. Charlotte is in 4th place in the NL Atlantic 15 games back of the Richmond Gamecocks. The Angels get Byrnes who was hitting .317 in his rookie year with Charlotte. Angels are in the hunt tied for 3rd place in the AL Pacific and just 4 games behind both the Fresno Bashers and Seattle Mariners.

In a big trade the New Orleans Zebras have dealt their power hitting first baseman Erubiel Durazo to the Jacksonville Beach Bums for SP Sid Hudson. New Orleans also acquires in the trade RF Franklin Gutierrez. Durazo has slugged 210 homers over 6 seasons for New Orleans. Jacksonville is in 3rd place in the AL Atlantic and are 13 games back while New Orleans gets Hudson who had a 2.59 ERA this year in Jacksonville. New Orleans is 68-47 in 4th place in the NL Midwest and 19 games out of first place behind the Tulsa Rattlers.

Virgil Trucks had a huge game today with 16 strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings as the Utah Saints whacked the Fargo Horsemen 14-0 at Romney Park. Trucks has been having an off year but he is now 11-6 on the reason as Utah has expanded their lead to 11 games in the AL West over the Houston Astros. Wally Schang homered and drove in 5 runs to carry the Utah offense as well as Mel Ott hitting a grand slam, it was Ott's 383rd career homer to lead everyone all time.

In trade news Jake Lamb has been traded by the Duluth Champions to the Louisville Bats today with Rymer Liriano and reliever Tyler Green heading to Duluth. Lamb has 126 career homers and will be the everyday third baseman for Louisville. Louisville is 67-50 in 6th place in the NL Central trailing the first place Chicago Cubs by 16 games.

Foo Fighters lead singer Dave Grohl found his way into a trade today to the Providence Chargers in exchange for pitcher Robert Person. Grohl was hitting .278 for San Juan in the minors and now the rookie should be able to get some playing time for the bottom feeding Providence team.

2025 - Report #70

Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a big game today for the Key West Condors hitting for the cycle in a 12-9 home game win over the Cozumel Scouts. Nieuwenhuis goes 4 for 5 with 3 RBI's in the win and has 24 homers on the year. Key West also got 3 hits and 4 RBI's from Jason Lane and 2 hits and 2 RBI's each from Red Smith and Ramon Santiago. Key West is 59-58 on the season

The New York Yankees found a way to add Dellin Betances to their pen today as they traded reliever Jim Rittwage and CF Dante Powell to the Amagansett Assassins to get him. Betances has struggled the past few season but won a ring with the Miami Marlins in 2021. The Yankees hold on to a 2 game lead over the Buffalo Bisons in the AL East

Gene Schott was dealt today by the Las Vegas Snake Eyes to the Chicago White Sox in a trade between contending teams. Las Vegas also sent starting pitcher Randy Wolf to the White Sox and Las Vegas gets back LF Danny Richardson. Schott won 17 games for Las Vegas in 2024 but has struggled mightily and now gets to play for his hometown team. Richardson had 18 homers and was batting .300 for Chicago so he welcomes a change to play in Las Vegas. The White Sox are in second place in the AL Central trailing the Cleveland Indians by 7 games, while the Las Vegas Snake Eyes are 12 games back in the NL West trailing the Albuquerque Blackbirds.

Last key move of the day sees Joshua James being traded from the Morgantown Cottonmouths to the Brooklyn Brawler along with Ted Kennedy in return for Dave Valle. James had 5 saves and was technically the closer for the poor Morgantown team. Brooklyn is tied for 4th in the NL East trailing the first place Riverhead Racers by 10 games.

Carl Mays continued his great rookie season for the Ottawa Argonauts with a no hitter today over the El Paso Grizzlies on the road at UTEP stadium. It was the 13th no hitter of the 2025 campaign and first ever in Ottawa Argonauts history and the first time El Paso has been no hit. Mays fanned 3 batters in the masterpiece. The only things separating Mays from perfection were a walk to Eddie Miller and his own error. MIchigan QB Rick Leach had 2 of the 3 RBI's to help Mays in this victory. Ottawa is 60-50 but has slipped to 9th in the very competitive NL East.

In a knee jerk move the Key West Condors dealt reliever Trevor Hoffman and reliever Brad Ziegler to the Baltimore Orioles for SS Bob Meacham and C Will Smith. Smith is a solid prospect but we all know what will become of Hoffman who was struggling at the big league level with an ERA over 5 in his rookie season. Hoffman will be pitching for Monterey the AAA affiliate of Baltimore as he works on his stuff.

In a fun move, the Philadelphia Phillies traded animated catcher Bob Uecker to the Auckland Seadogs for reliever Joe Ohl. Uecker will take his antics and commentary to New Zealand and should get a starting job instead of being behind the .413 hitting Deacon McGuire in Philadelphia.

The Jacksonville Beach Bums feel they still have some shot this year as they acquire Don Black and Herschel Powell from the Rochester Surge in exchange for Matt Beaty and SP Dan Daub. Beaty has 79 homers in his career for Jacksonville but never could cement a starting job. Black won a ring with the 2020 Seattle Mariners but was 3-13 this year for the expansion Rochester team.

Speaking of the Seattle Mariners, they acquired starting pitcher and journeyman George Winter from the Shreveport Sting in exchange for LF Cal Broughton, MR Pedro Borbon (the career Red), and MR Ed Monroe. Seattle has struggled to put the AL Pacific away and are now 1 game behind the division leading Fresno Bashers. Their rotation has been their achilles heel, with Harry Shriver and Win Ballou at the back end who are tapped out early in games.

2025 - Report #72

Kirk Gibson isn't limping around the bases in 2025 as hits for the cycle today in a game where his Raleigh Spitfires still came up short losing to the Indianapolis Bulldogs. Gibson has 32 homers on the season and drove in 2 runs but the 53-66 Raleigh team lost to the better Indianapolis Bulldogs. Johnny Mize went 3-3 with 4 RBI's including his 40th and 41st homers to improve Indianapolis to 73-46 on the year.

Raleigh also traded mobster Fredo Corleone to the Syracuse Maroons getting back RF Kole Calhoun and RP Hub Andrews. Raleigh GM Tristan Richard just wanted addition by subtraction "Fredo looks Ok at the plate, but he is just not a trustworthy guy and causes division in the locker room, Syracuse was coveting him and I told their GM, I will personally drive him to your doorstep.

Evangelist Kirk Franklin was traded today by the Brooklyn Brawlers to the Peoria Oil Barons with Brooklyn getting back in return 1B Jackie Tobin and C Al Lakeman. Franklin was caught on tape cursing out his son and Brooklyn drafted him as a character guy and they cut ties with the gospel singer.

Also today Mark DeRosa was dealt by the Edmonton Bluebirds to the Jones Beach Jets in teams going nowhere fast. DeRosa was traded with Brian Asselstine to Jones Beach with Blue Moon Odom and Chet Falk going to Edmonton. DeRosa had 16 homers and 50 RBI's this season for Edmonton.

2025 - Report #73

The players of the week have been announced and more trades

Joe Adcock of the Indianapolis Bulldogs wins player of the week in the American League. Adcock goes 13 for 27 and belts 6 homers while driving in 12 runs. He now has 43 homers on the 2025 campaign. Indianapolis is 74-46 in 4th place in the AL Central trailing the first place Cleveland Indians by 12 games.

In the National League this week, the top player was Boog Powell of the Austin Donkeys. Powell slugs 7 homers and drives in 14 runs this week while batting 12 for 27. Austin is 72-48 in 5th place in the NL West as they trail the first place Albuquerque Blackbirds by 12 games. Powell has broken out in his 4th season with over 40 homers already

The Maine Attack made a trade to acquire portly first baseman Tommy Joseph from the Scranton Owls today. Maine also gets in the trade RF Chipper Flynn. Scranton gets back in return 2B Mike Knode, SS Charlie Miller and MR Luis Mendoza. Both teams have losing records

Another trade today as the Louisville Bats acquire 37 year old Stan Javier and Fernando Seguignol today from the Lubbock Brigangs. Lubbock acquires back RP Walter Anderson and 1B Jimmy Wasdell. Louisville is 70-50 and in 6th place in the NL Central, they feel they have some change. Seguignol has been a big power bat but he hits around .180

The Cleveland Indians are in first in the AL Central and added insurance in the bat of Sean Rodriguez in a trade with the Morgantown Cottonmouths today. Cleveland traded relief pitchers Lance McCullers Sr and Dad Clarke to Morgantown. Rodriguez has hit 120 career homers with many teams.

2025 - Report #74

Busy day as we get close to the trading deadline in 2025.

Dave Shean of the San Jose Skeeters hits for the cycle today as the Skeeter won a wild 9-8 game over the Billings Beacons in 13 innings. Billings cored 4 in the top of the 13th and San Jose retaliated with 5 in the bottom of the inning. This was a dream game for Shean as he hits the walk off grand slam with San Jose trailing 8-5 in the bottom of the 13th, Shean drove in 5 runs and has 7 RBI's for the season since coming over from the Kansas City Royals in the Hunter Renfroe trade.

It was a milestone day for Anthony Rizzo of the New York Mets as he launched his 300th career homer today at Citifield in an 8-4 loss to the Washington Nationals. Rizzo hits the big homer in the first inning off of dominant Dave Righetti, who improved to 15-6 with the win. Rags is looking for his 3rd straight 20 win season. Rizzo has 34 homers on the season and is in his 6th year with the Mets, after organically landing on the Chicago Cubs for the 2019 season.

Tennis pro and first baseman John Isner has decided to call it quits and will retire with the Staten Island Blue Jackets. Isner is 38 years old and has played for a lot of teams but had 3 years with the Philadelphia Phillies between 2020 and 2022. He has 188 homers and 907 hits so 200 homers is a possibility but he has only 13 hit this year, he drilled 35 in 2022.

The Los Angeles Angels went all in today trading for outfielder Josh Hamilton from the San Diego Padres. Hamilton will move north on the Pacific Coast Highway in exchange for RP Marcus Walden, and P Dick Burns. San Diego GM Bill Trimborn said he needed to get rid of Hamilton, would not disclose any reasons. Rumors of drug use were quickly defused by San Diego manager Jim Bonnett. Hamilton had 27 homers and 75 RBI's at the time of the trade. Angels are 80-41 in 4th place in the AL Pacific trailing the Fresno Bashers by 6 games.

Roy Smalley is on the move as the Billings Beacons dealt him to the Jacksonville Beach Bums for 1B Art Shires and RP Bill Bailey. Smalley was batting .171 this year in Billings and hit .183 in 2024 for the Milwaukee Brewers. Meanwhile Shires has been the starting first baseman in Jacksonville with a .262 batting average. Jacksonville may be 14 games out in the tough AL Atlantic but at 78-43 they may think they have wild card aspirations.

Cleveland Indians are trying to put away the AL Central and made a trade today to get 3B Carlos Sanchez and SP Tyler Matzek from the Bakersfield Red Aces. Cleveland gives up C Bruce Maxwell in the trade. Sanchez was a mainstay of the Chicago Cubs from 2019-2024 with 966 career hits. Cleveland is protecting a 7 game lead over the 2nd place Chicago White Sox

In an odd New England trade, the Boston Red Sox land centerfielder Ginger Beaumont in a trade with the Providence Chargers. Red Sox had to part with reliever Charlie Dewald RP Nick Cullop. Beaumont was only hitting .228 this year in Providence so this is a change of scenery type trade. Red Sox are 66-55 and are 15 games behind the New York Yankees in the AL East.

2025 - Report #75

The trade deadline is rapidly approaching, some last minute deals to report

In a trade between prairie states, the Billings Beacons dealt military cook and catcher Jake Harper with SS Eddie Basinski to the Fargo Horsemen for RF Chuck Hinton and LF Clete Thomas. Harper had 14 homers this year for Billings but was hitting under .200 and did not win over GM Franklin Landero who thought that Harper was lazy and just liked passing gas on the bench. Both teams are struggling so they just did the typical change of scenery and pray trade.

All Star Jason Hammel was traded by the Chicago Cubs to the Pittsburgh Pirates today which is an odd within division move, where Cubs needed offense and landed Buddy Lewis. Also in the trade going to Chicago is 1B Taylor Green. Hammel has a 1.41 ERA this year .080 WHIP out of the pen and will help the Pirates who are now 77-44 and in 4th place in the NL Central trailing the now leading Cincinnati Reds by 9 1/2 games. Cubs get a third baseman in Lewis who has 99 homers and a career .279 batting average in 7 season with the Bucs.

The New York Yankees are trying to preserve their lead over the Buffalo Bisons in the AL East and got much needed catching help in William Brown from the Winnipeg Wolf Pack. Yankees send RF Sam Mele to Winnipeg to complete the trade. Brown played his first 6 years with the San Diego Padres but has seen his number drop from being a 20 plus homer .290 plus average guy to more of a sub 10 homer .260 player.

Lou Trivino was another player traded by the Billings Beacons today as he was shipped to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for CF Harry Craft and RP Zach Godley. Trivino is decent but was being overused by Billings this year. He has appeared in over 300 games in his career spending most of his time with the Boston Red Sox.

Lastly, actor Vince Vaughn will no longer call Japan home as the Tokyo Alligators have sent the non serious wedding crasher to the Birmingham Hillcats with catcher Bob Peterson getting back in return RP Josh Taylor and RP Artie Lewicki. Despite standing 6'5 Vaughn is a singles hitter with only 9 career homes in 1719 at bats. He was hitting .246 at the time of the trade, and said he was happy to be in the US even if in Alabama.

2025 - Report #76

Another no hitter has been thrown as Scott Baker of the Mobile Swordfish completed the gem on the road against the Sioux Falls Velocity. This was the 14th no hitter of the 2025 season. Mobile wins the game 2-0 as Baker get the job done despite walking 6 batters. Shorty Fuller and Jack Clements drove in the Mobile runs. Of the 6 batters walker, Baker walked Pedro Alvarez twice in the game. Baker fans 6 and improves to 10-7 on the season, he won 15 games for Mobile in 2024.

The Nashville Judges have been hot winning 10 straight games to pull within 7 games of the first place Cleveland Indians in the AL Central in 2nd place. They will have to soldier on without a key player Oddibe McDowell who will be out 6 weeks with elbow tendinitis. He suffered the injury in a 7-6 win over the Portland Lions in 10 innings. McDowell had 32 hits and 93 RBI's for Nashville this year.

Roy Thomas will be gone for the season for the Branson Jackals as he has been diagnosed with a damaged elbow ligament. Thomas had been in nearly 70 games in his rookie season for Branson. He came up with the injury in a 6-1 home win over the Evansville Steelhawks.

The news has slowed down a bit as the trading deadline has passed and the teams are heading down the final 33 game stretch.

Podge Weihe continues his torrid second half winning AL Player of the Week for the Kansas City Royals. Weihe hit 9 homers and drove in 20 runs this week and batted .464. He now has 39 homers and 96 RBI's on the year. Royals are 82-46 in 4th place in the AL Midwest, 13 games behind the Minnesota Twins

National League top honors goes to Andy Pafko of the Mobile Swordfish. Pafko hit .462 with 5 homers and 18 RBI's. Pafko has had an incredible comeback season with 125 RBI's this year. He struggled with a .235 average in his first year with Mobile in 2024. Mobile is 88-40 in 3rd place in the NL Central trailing the first place Cincinnati Reds by 4 games.

Speaking of the Reds, they decided to lockup reliever Drew Storen for 3 more years at 36 million dollars. Storen is 6-0 this year and was the closer for the defending World Champion Cincinnati Reds from 2019-2024. Storen has 199 career saves for the Reds but has been effective as the setup man for Cincinnati closer and rookie Ambrose Puttman. Reds hold on to a narrow 1 game lead over the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central.

The Houston Astros are in 2nd place in the NL West but are 16 games behind the first place Utah Saints, so they are vying for a wildcard spot. Today they learned the lost Mat Latos for the season with shoulder inflammation. The injury came in an 8-4 loss to the Cabo San Lucas Black Gold on the road. Astros have promoted Scott Scudder to take his place in the rotation, which makes their back end of their rotation tenuous.

Randy Wolf found out he has a torn UCL and the Chicago White Sox have lost him for the season. He was just acquired from the Las Vegas Snake Eyes at the deadline and some in the White Sox organization think the acquired damaged goods. Wolf suffered the injury in a 5-3 loss on the road against the Fresno Bashers. The White Sox have slipped into a 3rd place tie in the AL Central with the Indianapolis Bulldogs and Caracas Toros trailing the first place Cleveland Indians by 11 games.

Today we see Jed Lawrie of the Arizona Diamondbacks put on a hitting clinic with 6 hits in a game today where Arizona destroyed the San Jose Skeeters 27-6. Lawrie goes 6 for 6 with 5 runs scored and 4 RBI's and accomplished this in the 9 slot in the batting order. RJ Reynolds had 4 hits and 6 RBI's, Joe Sewell and Walker Cooper each drove in 5 runs in this bloodbath. Jose Cruz Sr drilled 2 homers and 4 RBI's for the losing San Jose team. Arizona has been on a roll of late and are 81-50 in 4th place in the NL West trailing first place Albuquerque Blackbirds by 9 games.

It has been a kind of lost year for the Atlanta Braves at 74-57 who are tied for 3rd in the NL Atlantic but are 22 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies. They found out today they lost ace pitcher Bobby Mitchell for 4 weeks with a strained back muscle. Injury occurred in walk off 2-1 victory over the Peoria Oil Barons at home. Orie Arntzen will move from the bullpen to the rotation to take his place

Jimmie Hall hit his milestone 300th homer today for the Texas Rangers in an 8-7 loss at home against the Cabo San Lucas Black Gold. Hall's 300th homer comes off of reliever Felix Pena. Hall has had an off year hitting .243 but has 34 homers. Hall is in his 6th season all with the Texas Rangers.

The 15th no hitter of the year has been tossed by Fernando Valenzuela of the St Louis Cardinals as the Redbirds downed the Winnipeg Wolf Pack 9-0 at Dale Hawerchuk stadium. Valenzuela has been consistent and not a flash in the pan as he fanned 10 batters and walked 3 in the contest. This was the first no hitter for the St Louis Cardinals and 2nd time Winnipeg were no hit. They were no hit in April 2024 by Will Sawyer and the Atlantic City Sharks. Wally Post hit his 25th homer and Nolan Arenado drove in 3 runs for the Cardinals in the victory. The Cardinals are in a dead tie for first place with the Tulsa Rattlers in the NL Midwest

American League Player of the Week goes to Clint Courtney of the Indianapolis Bulldogs this week. Courtney goes 12 for 22 with 4 homers and 12 RBI's for Indy. Indianapolis has been very strong this second half and are in a 3 way tied for 3rd place in the AL Central with the Caracas Toros and Chicago White Sox trailing the first place Cleveland Indians by 9 games.

John Olerud continues to have an unreal season with the first place Albuquerque Blackbirds and wins NL player of the week. Olerud slugged 8 homers and drove in 15 runs while batting .414. this week for Albuquerque. The first place lead over the Las Vegas Snake Eyes has shrunk to 5 games in the NL West

The Sacramento Bees have struggled more than they had though and have fallen out of contention in the NL Pacific, and things got worse with news that ace pitcher Josh Beckett is out for 5 weeks with a strained hamstring. The injury happened in the first inning of a 6-2 loss to the Tijuana Pelicans in Mexico. Beckett was not happy being in a Tijuana hospital. Sacramento is 87-45 in 3rd place in the AL Pacific but are 21 games behind the unreal Los Angeles Dodgers.

2025 - Report #80

There have been some memorable performances over the last few days worth nothing without submitting box scores.

Homer Bailey has been electric since coming over to the Cincinnati Reds and he hurls a 1 hit shutout against the Paris Swingers at Great American Ballpark. The Reds won the game 6-0 as the only hit by Paris was garnered by Billy Bryan. Bailey fanned 10 and walked none and was helped by a three run homer by Larry Doby. Reds are 97-37 in first place in the NL Central, with a 3 game lead over the Chicago Cubs.

Another 1 hitter was tossed as Bob Moose of the Jacksonville Beach Bums limited the Albany Warcats to just one hit in an 8-0 beating on the road at Mario Cuomo Field. Albany's lone hit was by NHL Defenseman Roman Josi. Moose fanned 9 and walked none and got his offense from Ichiro Suzuki with 3 hits and 3 RBI's. Jacksonville is 85-49 but that is only good for 3rd place in the AL Atlantic behind the Richmond Gamecocks by 17 games.

Multi Cy Young award winning Noodles Hahn had a 16 strikeout game for the Utah Saints over the Cheyenne Black Aces at home. Hahn improved to 23-2 and fanned 16 in 7 1/3 innings while Utah won the game 5-2 behind 3 hits from Bill Dickey and a 2 run homer by George Davis. Utah is 104-30 and has a comfortable first place lead of 17 games over the Houston Astros in the AL West

The San Bernardino Butchers triumphed over the Peoria Oil Barons 7-3 on the road in Peoria today as Chandler Bing went 5 for 5 to raise his batting average to .367 The wise cracking Manhattan-ite crossed the plate 3 times in the win batting in front of Mickey Cochrane and Del Bissonette who each drove in 3 runs. San Bernardino is in 6th place and much improved with a 77-57 record in the NL Pacific but 33 games behind the insane Los Angeles Dodgers.

How insane are the Los Angeles Dodgers, they have won 27 games in a row and possess a 110-24 record on the year as they built a huge lead over the Honolulu Riptides in the NL Pacific by 12 games. Dodgers are carried by Dusty Miller with 40 homers and 127 RBI's, and a solid 1-2 pitching punch of rookie Rube Kisinger and Bill Gullickson. They are managed by the comical Larry Andersen who did not have a big career as he entered the league late but is making up for it as a manager.

Andrew Cuomo who is not known for his power slammed 3 homers today for the Reno Armada in their 11-4 road win over the Bermuda Seawolves. Cuomo drove in 4 runs in the game and increased his homer total from 6 to 9 in one game. Dan Gladden added 4 hits while Brendan Ryan collected 3 more as Reno improves to 74-64 on the season a bit late to do anything in the playoff race. Bermuda got 3 hits each from Candy Maldonado and Josh Laporte

The Brooklyn Brawlers defeated the San Jose Skeeters at Ebbets Field today as ace pitcher Jerry Reuss hurled the 1 hit shutout. Reuss fanned 8 batters and only walked 1 to improve to 11-2 on the season. Will "The Thrill" Clark had the lone San Jose hit. Frank Welch hit his 29th homer on the season and drove in 4 to carry Brooklyn to the victory. Brooklyn is 76-61 on the year but 15 games now out of first in the NL East.

Gospel singer Kirk Franklin got his opportunity to play with the lowly Peoria Oil Barons but is now gone for the season with a torn back muscle. Franklin only batted 51 times since coming over in the trade from Brooklyn and is now gone until next year. Franklin drove in 2 runs in the game in which he got injured which was a 10-5 loss at home to the San Bernardino Butchers.

The Los Angeles Dodgers improved their winning steak to 31 games with a 5-0 blanking of the Melbourne Caribou at home. The Dodgers and Nap Rucker limited Melbourne to 2 hits and won the 31st in a row. Rucker fanned 8 batters in the game and is now 15-5. Omar Infante was the hitting star with his 8th homer and 2 RBI's.

While that streak extends. .. Ketel Marte of the Mexico City Salukis saw his 27 game hitting streak get snapped today in a 2-0 road loss to the Fresno Bashers. Mickey Harris was tough for 7 innings in the win as Fresno improved to 94-44 in the victory.
