Walkers news: July 31 -- Kansas City 5, St. Louis 4
Record: 55-52, 4th, 5.5 GB Kansas City
Kansas City cranked four home runs to power its way to a 5-4 win over St. Louis at Royals Stadium (1973). River Walkers ace Angel Tiburcio allowed three of the long balls. Jon Leon hit a solo shot to lead off the bottom of the third inning to open the scoring. After St. Louis took a 2-1 lead in the fifth, courtesy of a two-run homer from Tiburcio off Monarchs starting pitcher Chris Archer, K.C. immediately took it back when Ryan West took Tiburcio deep with a two-run bomb. Tony Martinez led of the sixth with a solo homer off Luiz Gohara. Nolan Arenado contributed the Monarchs' final run of the game, by greeting Jose Alvarado with a homer to open the bottom of the eighth. St. Louis did pull to within a run in the top of the ninth -- Jose Segura tripled in a run off closer Mike Tucker and later scored on an Edward Olivares single -- but Tucker retired the next three for his 24th save of the season. 40-year-old Chris Archer was impressive allowing two runs on four hits over six innings. He struck out seven and didn't issue a walk. Matt Broussard and Nate Guthrie pitched an inning each before Tucker the mound in the ninth. Tiburcio and the Monarchs' Josh Shuler were both ejected after Shuler was hit by a pitch following West's home run in the fifth inning. A bench-clearing brawl broke out. Both players were ejected and have been hit with suspensions. |

Walkers news: August 1 -- Kansas City 4, St. Louis 3
Record: 55-53, 4th, 6.5 GB Kansas City
Jose Buenrostro shut out St. Louis into the seventh inning -- and the River Walkers did not score until the ninth -- as Kansas City held on for a 4-3 win at Royals Stadium (1973). The win capped a three-game sweep for the Monarchs. Kansas City has won all nine of its game against St. Louis this season. Buenrosto (10-8) scattered four hits in his 6.1 innings. He struck out nine and walked one. Matt Broussard completed the seventh and kept the shutout going through the eighth. With the score 4-0, Steven Jennings allowed a two-run homer to Edward Olivares in the ninth. Closer Mike Tucker relieved, only to allow another homer, this one to Jordan Groshans, to make it 4-3. But he got Vidal Brujan to ground out to end it, and earn him his league-leading 25th save. The Monarchs jumped in front in the bottom of the second against River Walkers starter Kaneo Kawamoto. Danny Cushing led off with a double, and scored two batters later on a double by Logan Tanner. Kawamoto was still on the mound in the fifth when 38-year-old Nolan Arenado hit a two-run homer to make it 3-0. |

Walkers news: August 3 -- Twin Cities 4, St. Louis 0
Record: 55-54, 4th, 7 GB Kansas City
Mack Anglin pitched a shutout into the sixth inning, and the Twin Cities bullpen finished it off, as the Snow Cats downed St. Louis 4-0 at Metropolitan Stadium (1977). From there, four relievers -- James Pazos (1.0 IP), Jesse Gaither (1.0), Giovanny Gallegos (0.2) and Eric Watkins (0.1) -- combined to keep the River Walkers silent the rest of the way. Watkins earned his 15th save of the season. Twin Cities jumped in front early when Jeff Friedman took Walkers starting pitcher Trey Benton deep with one out in the first inning. Walkers news: Vidal placed on injured list; Scott called up from Memphis
The St. Louis River Walkers have placed outfielder Carlos Vidal on the injured list with a strained oblique and called outfielder Rick Scott up from AAA Memphis.
Vidal suffered the injury on July 30, and while described as able to play through the injury. He had not looked well in a pair of pinch-hitting attempts. For the season, the 32-year-old Vidal had batted .276 with nine homers and 28 homers in 98 games. Getting the call up from Memphis is 25-year-old outfielder/first baseman Rick Scott. Walkers news: August 4 -- Twin Cities 2, St. Louis 0
Record: 55-55, 4th, 7 GB Kansas City
Twin Cities first hit of the game -- a two-run homer from Alvaro Lovato in the bottom of the fourth innings -- was all it would need as the Snow Cats downed St. Louis 2-0 at Metropolitan Stadium (1977). Jeff Friedman had drawn a one-out walk from River Walkers starting pitcher Jason Froehlich. After Robbie Mackie replaced Friedman on the bases by hitting into a fielder's choice, Lovato provided the only runs of the game with a two-run homer over the fence in right-center. It was an impressive outing for Snow Cats starter Joel Wisniewski (2-0) , who scattered three hits over six shutout innings. He struck out eight and walked one. Luis Angel Medina, James Bowman and Eric Watkins completed the combined shutout with a scoreless inning apiece. Watkins earned his 16th save. Last edited by rink23; 09-20-2020 at 04:54 AM. |

Walkers news: August 5 -- St. Louis 4, Twin Cities 2
Record: 56-55, 4th, 6 GB Kansas City
St. Louis starting pitcher Ricky Cisneros took a no-hitter into the eighth inning, and the River Walkers avoided a three-game sweep with a 4-2 win at Metropolitan Stadium (1997). Cisneros did not allow a hit until Patrick Winkel reached on a two-out single in the bottom of the eighth inning. He struck out Eddie Estrella to end the eighth. Cisneros (5-9), who would earn the win, allowed just the one hit over eight innings. He struck out eight and walked one. The River Walkers had built a 2-0 lead by the time the game reached the boittom of the eighth. Jean Carmona scored the first run in the first inning, when he doubled off Snow Cats starting pitcher Yefti Del Rosario and scored on a Jose Segura double. St. Louis added its second run in the seventh. Thairo Estrada singled with two outs off James Pazos, and scored when Hayden Jones followed with a double. The Walkers would add two more runs in the top of the ninth. A walk and passed ball helped add to the outburst. Alek Thomas and Jean Carmona both had RBI singles off Twin Cities reliever James Bowman. Those runs proved big, as the Cats tallied twice against the St. Louis bullpen in the bottom of the ninth. Robbie Mackie, Alvaro Lovato and Josiah Miller had consecutive doubles off Walkers reliever Zach Evers to make it 4-2. St. Louis brought closer Ernesto Barbosa into the game, and he struck out Eric Williams to end it. Barbosa now has 13 saves. Last edited by rink23; 09-20-2020 at 04:54 AM. |

Walkers news: August 6 -- St. Louis 5, Milwaukee 4
Record: 57-55, 4th, 5 GB Kansas City
Kaneo Kawamoto took a shutout into the eighth inning, and St. Louis survived a late grand slam from Brett Baty to defeat Milwaukee 5-4 at Busch Stadium (1997). The River Walkers led 5-0 by the time Kawamoto took the mound to begin the top of the eighth. He lasted three batters, sandwiching a pair of outs around a walk to pinch-hitter Sammy Siani, Luiz Gohara took over and got Erik Rivera to hit a grounder, only to have second baseman Vidal Brujan make an errant throw to first. A walk to Nomara Mazara loaded the bases. Baty followed with his 41st homer of the season, to pull the Crushers within a run. Jose Alvarado replaced Gohara, and allowed a single to Ian Blount to extended the inning. But he followed with a strike out of Cayden Wallace to keep it 5-4. Closer Ernesto Barbosa set Milwaukee down in order in the ninth for his 14th save. In his 7.2 innings, Kawamoto (14-5) was charged with one run on four hits. He struck out eight and walked two. He also became the second pitcher, and the first in the West Division, to win 14 games in the 2029 season. St. Louis jumped on top in the first inning, after Cris Rosario followed a Jared Thomas single with a double off Crushers starting pitcher Justin Buck. The Walkers did the rest of their damage with a four-run sixth. Buck struck out Edward Olivares to open the inning, but than exited. After that, Edwin Cora took all of the damage. Brujan drove in the final two runs with a double. Jose Segura had plated the first with a double. The second run scored on a Jordan Groshans ground out. Walkers news: August 7 -- St. Louis 6, Milwaukee 2, 10 innings
Record: 58-55, 4th, 5.5 GB Kansas City
Rookie Jean Segura hit a grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning to give St. Louis a 6-2 win over Milwaukee at Busch Stadium (1997). A one-out single by Alek Thomas, followed by an Edward Olivares double and intentional walk to Jared Thomas had loaded the bases. Crushers reliever Bill Webb struck out Cris Rosario for the second out. But Segura crushed a 1-2 pitch 359 feet over the wall in right field to clear the bases and give his team the win. Back-to-back homers from Nomar Mazara and Brett Baty off St. Louis starting pitcher Ben Schellenger in the top of the fourth had put the Crushers up 2-0. St. Louis tied it on a two-run pinch-hit homer from Andrew Benintendi off reliever Jason Johnson with two outs in the seventh. Schellenger, called up from AAA Memphis for a spot start, went five innings giving up two runs on six hits. He struck out seven and walked two. Yelin Santos worked a scoreless sixth and got the first two outs of the seventh. Jose Alvarado retired the only batter he faced to closed out the seventh. Jake Brentz kept the Crushers off the board in the eighth and ninth. The 10th belonged to Travis Krogman (1-2), who came out of it with the win. Last edited by rink23; 09-20-2020 at 04:54 AM. |

Walkers news: August 8 -- Milwaukee 4, St. Louis 3
Record: 58-56, 4th, 6.5 GB Kansas City
Down 1-0, Ian Blount hit a two-run homer off St. Louis starting pitcher Angel Tiburcio in the top of the fourth inning to put Milwaukee in front, and the Crushers never trailed from there as it downed the River Walkers 4-3 at Busch Stadium (1997). The victory gave Milwaukee a win in the series after dropping the first two. The Crushers lead grew to 4-1 in the eighth, when pinch-hitter Bret Baty and Raynel Delgado hit back-to-back homers. Baty, who homered in all three games of the series and has 43 for the season, hit his off Tiburcio. Luiz Gohara had just entered the game when Delgado hit his 13th. The Walkers tallied a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth -- Alek Thomas drove in the first with a triple and scored on a Jean Carmona ground out -- but could not tie it up. Crushers starting pitcher Francisco Justo (7-9) lasted five innings, allowing one run on three hits. Clyde Rayner handled the sixth and seventh for the Crushers. Adam George was on the mound when St. Louis made it 4-3. Drake Fellows earned his first save with a scoreless ninth. Last edited by rink23; 09-20-2020 at 04:53 AM. |

Walkers news: August 10 -- Des Moines 5, St. Louis 1, 10 innings
Record: 58-57, 4th, 8 GB Kansas City
Two games after winning a game on a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the 10th inning, St. Louis saw the tables turned as Des Moines's Jackson Miller hit a slam in the bottom of the 10th to give the Harvesters a 5-1 win at Green Canyon Park. Two games earlier, the River Walkers had gotten a grand slam from Jean Segura in the bottom of the 10th to give them a 6-2 win over Milwaukee. Home runs accounted for all the scoring. The Harvesters went up 1-0 in the fourth inning on a homer from Rafael Devers off River Walkers starting pitcher Jason Froehlich. St. Lopuis tied it in the eighth on Edward Olivares' solo shot off Yeison Sanders. Walkers reliever Travis Krogman retired Andrew Foley to begin the bottom of the 10th. But Austin Meadows, Devers and Fernando Tatis Jr. all singled to load the bases. Jose Alvarado was called upon to face Miller. But it didn't work, as he charged the first pitch he saw 443 feet over the wall in right center to end it. Des Moines starting pitcher Kellan Tulio was impressive with seven shutout innings. He allowed just one hit, while striking out 13 and walking none. Sanders, Omar Benitez and Jeremy Bouchard (1-0) all pitched an inning apiece with Bouchard notching his first win of the season. Froehlich was forced to leave in the fifth inning with back soreness. He is expected to miss three weeks. Last edited by rink23; 09-20-2020 at 04:53 AM. |
