This has been an issue for as long as I've been playing (so, at least since v14). Somewhere in the game's programming, it is able to pick up city and country, but not state of birth. The number of players who import incorrectly on this account is in the thousands.
Point being: the problem is not the database. Last edited by dewelar; 09-17-2019 at 02:51 PM. Reason: Clarify |

the problem stems from the world.dat file. there are thousands of unincluded cities that birthed mlb players and even more if minor league players are included

That's true as far as it goes, but there's another level to the problem. The Bloomington thing mentioned above is an example, but another big one is the two large cities named Pasadena -- one in Texas, one in California. More baseball players were born in Pasadena, California, but anytime you import one, no matter which state they have listed in the database, they will ALWAYS, UNFAILINGLY import as being from Pasadena, Texas. I have reported this at least twice myself to no avail. There might as well not even BE a state field on the database for all that it gets pinged.
Not to mention cities that have parentheticals (e.g., the two Mountain Views in California). Those get ignored entirely. |

all these issues were created when ootp went to the xml based world file, they did not exist in the old csv version. that one worked perfectly. states mattered and every city was included

Per our earlier discussion, the birth year of Newt Joseph (joseph000new) does not match the current data on his Seamheads page. Importing his 1924 season, his age is listed as 24 instead of 27. Birth date is correct (10-27).

Another Seamheads check:
Dink Mothell (mothel000din) is (currently) listed on Seamheads with a DoB of 1897-8-13. The database appears to be a year off -- when importing his 1928 season, his age is 29 rather than 30. |

OK, here's a big one. I'm surprised nobody picked this up, since it's been nine years since SABR dug the info up (not sure when it filtered over to Baseball Reference, but it is there as well), but Charley O'Leary (o'leach01) had his DoB moved back seven full years, so that it's now listed as 1875-10-15. Given the significance of this datum -- he's now officially the oldest MLB player to ever get a hit (aged fifty-eight in 1934) -- I'm surprised it hasn't been changed in the database yet.

Use pre-defined draft value for AI. Not working when checked
This same thing happens with every new version of OOTP.
This post is from the same issue in last years version. Please see post 58 and 63 of this thread if that helps https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=287489 For example Babe Ruth doesn't go 1st in his draft. and other players aren't ranked as they should be. ruth is ranked #2 all-time after bonds so if he don't get drafted 1 in your draft perhaps your team ai don't think it needs him.
no generic problem found

The birth towns of two Hall of Famers, Ty Cobb and Walter Johnson, are incorrect. Cobb is listed as being born in Narrows, VA and Johnson in Humboldt, TN when in reality Cobb was born in Narrows GA and Johnson in Humboldt KS.

It is not working as intended....We go thru this every year....Ruth should be drafted first by AI in the 1913 draft when this feature is checked, and he is not. |

unhappinesses with the AI should be posted one level up in the general bug reports forum. I do not know if they will be noted here.

Latest DoB issue involves NeL player Heavy Johnson (johnso002hea). Looks like he's in the database as three years younger than Seamheads (which shows 1895-04-20).

Got a spelling one for you today, Spritze. Per Seamheads, seldon049bee's last name is spelled Selden, not Seldon. All other data appear to be correct.
