7/30

El Sid gets his 10th win of the year, and the 1986 Mets win their 60th game, as they take the win over the CHI Cubs 8-4 @ Shea Stadium.
Fernandez only gives up 1 run in 8 innings pitched while striking out 8!
The bullpen got a little shaky, but closed the game anyway.
The Straw goes 5 for 5 with 3 RBIs, and shares the Mets Man award with El Sid.
We sweep the 4 games against the Cubs.
The Mets get a day off tomorrow!
Next Up: A 3 game series against the Montreal Expos @ Shea Stadium.

RP: 60-38
RL: 66-32 (3-4 Loss vs CHC) -6

23 games in 20 days, including six in four against the birds? Talk about a ridiculous schedule...

that was the schedule as played...plus you forgot to mention a stretch where the Mets played 20 out of 25 road games

The NY Mets sneak past the MTL Expos 2-1 @ Shea Stadium behind some great pitching from Bobby O and MTL Floyd Youmans.
Close game all the way through, but Ojeda gets the win, while McDowell and Orosco close the game.
The Expos actually outhit the Mets in this one, but its the runs that count, and the Mets had one more than MTL.
Great pitchers duel, and im glad that it was my team that came out on top!
We are now on a 5 game winning streak!
We are in the Playoff Push, so now, NL East standings will be shown after every game.

The game was postponed due to bad weather in Shea Stadium, today.
The NY Mets will play a doubleheader against the MTL Expos, tomorrow!

8/3 Game 1

Ray Knight hits a walk-off single in the bottom of the 9th, as the NY Mets take the 1st game of today's doubleheader against the Expos 4-3 @ Shea Stadium.
Ron Darling pitches great, but gets a no-decision, as Jesse Orosco gets his 2nd win of the year.
Darryl Strawberry hits his 16th HR of the season, while Carter, Mitchell and Wilson have two big hits on the day.
We have won 6 games in a row!

8/3 Game 2

Another doubleheader sweep by the Mets this season, as we wallop the MTL Expos 11-3 in the 2nd game of the day @ Shea Stadium.
Dr. K goes the distance, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 7!
But it was the lineup that gave the good doctor, LOTS of run support.
The Straw hits TWO dingers today, his 17th and 18th, and even Dykstra got into the act, hitting his 5th HR on the year!
Twice, the Expos walked Mookie Wilson to get to Dwight Gooden, and twice, Dr. K hit TWO RBI singles to help his own cause.
People forget that Gooden could hit as well as pitch.
We sweep the Expos, and have now won 7 in a row!
Next UP: A 5-game series against the Chicago Cubs @ Wrigley Field.

This Week in Baseball--1986

The 1986 NY Mets are on a tear!
Having won 7 in a row, and now hold a commanding 11.5 game lead on the PHI Phillies, it looks like making the NLCS is ours to lose.
The Mets lineup has woken up, and is now hitting the way i remember.
The pitching is still the best in baseball.
We are now 22-8 for the last 30 games played, and the way the rest of the league is going, it looks like we will have a 1986 NLCS rematch against the HOU Astros.
One question though...
Will someone please tell me how the 1986 BOS Red Sox even made the playoffs that year?
That team is HORRIBLE!

When your hot, you're hot!
The NY Mets certainly are, as they stop the CHI Cubs 9-4 @ Wrigley Field.
El Sid gets his 11th win on the season, and goes the distance, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits.
Kevin Mitchell was the Mets Man today, as he went 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs, while hitting his 12th HR on the season.
Keith Hernandez had 3 hits as well.
A good way to start a series of 5 games in the Windy City.
We have now won 8 games in a row!

Its a good thing that the lineup is now starting to hit the way they are supposed to.
The NY Mets beat the CHI Cubs for the 6th straight time by the score of 9-5 @ Wrigley Field.
Bobby O gets his 10th win of the year, giving up only 2 ER in 7 innings pitched.
The Straw and Hernandez had 3 hits on the day, while Mookie Wilson hit his 9th HR, and Gary Carter hit his 14th!
Everyone except Ojeda, got a hit in this game.
We have ANOTHER chance to sweep a doubleheader tomorrow.
So as a certain Mr. Cub, used to say, "Lets play TWO!"
We have now won 9 games in a row!

8/6 Game 1

I really dont know if i need to get into the report of this game.
I will just let the boxscore speak for itself.
Well...ok..the NY Mets deal a haymaker to the CHI Cubs 16-3 @ Wrigley Field.
Ron Darling gets win number 12 and pretty much, his easiest win of the season.
The Mets lineup had a field day on CHC Scott Sanderson, who the last time the Mets faced him, he got his 1st win of the season against us.
We decided that a little payback was in order.
Dykstra hit his 6th HR, The Straw hit his 19th, and Knight hit his 6th, a grand slam!
Only Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling did NOT get an RBI in this game.
Everyone else brought in a run in some way.
Nice way to win the 1st game of a doubleheader.
We are now on a 10 game winning streak!

8/6 Game 2

This game was a LOT closer, but it ended with the same result.
The NY Mets take the 2nd game of the doubleheader against the CHI Cubs 8-6 @ Wrigley Field.
Dr. K got the start, but not the win, as Rick Aguilera gave up a HR to CHC Keith Moreland in the 6th inning.
But the lineup did its part in coming right back and decided to hang 4 runs on the Cubs in the top of the 9th.
Lenny Dykstra was 3 for 6 with 2 RBIs, and he continues to hit well.
We have now won 11 games in a row!

Its has to be a very hard thing to do.
To win 5 in a row against a team 5 straight games.
But the NY Mets did it, as they squeak by the CHI Cubs 5-4 @ Wrigley Field.
Rick Aguilera gets the start today and pitched very well, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits, as he gets his 4th win of the year.
Roger McDowell picks up his 15th save.
Lenny Dykstra and Kevin Mitchell continue to hit the ball well, as they both had 3 hits on the day.
We take all 5 games against the Cubs, and i know that the CHC players were very happy to see our plane leave for Canada.
We have now won 12 games in a row!
Next Up: A 3-game series against the Montreal Expos @ Stade Olympique.

The winning streak comes to an end, as the MTL Expos top the NY Mets 6-3 @ Stade Olympique.
El Sid didnt have his best stuff, as he gave up a quick 3 runs to the Expos in the 1st inning.
The Mets did battle back to tie the game, but Roger McDowell couldnt get the hold he was looking for.
Kevin Mitchell did belt his 13th HR of the season in the tough loss tonight in Canada.

After winning 12 games in a row, we have dropped two north of the border.
The NY Mets get topped by the MTL Expos 6-3 @ Olympic Stadium.
For some reason, we dont play well here.
Bobby O had some issues today, as he gave up 6 runs on 10 hits.
Mitchell went 3 for 5 in todays loss.
