1919-20 Offseason News and Notes
This was a very uneventful offseason, so not a lot to report here. ![]() ![]() You know it’s a deep draft when a Pie Traynor isn’t taken until the end of the 1st round! A lot of talent available this season. |

1920 Preview
![]() ![]() Looks like OSA is predicting this is the year Babe Ruth starts hitting home runs. He is coming off a MVP season, and his power rating is now 15/19, so Gavvy Cravath's single season record of 28 is probably in danger. Top Player ![]() Hornsby is fantastic, but I would take Babe Ruth here. Top Pitcher ![]() I’ve never heard of Kantlehner, but he’s been amazing for the Yankees. 81-56 over 5 years, with a 2.31 era and a 34.1 WAR. He might not be a big name, but he’s pitching like he belongs here. |

Don't know much about Erv except his nickname was Peanuts and he had 2 good years during the Federal League years, which is why he probably imported higher than he should have been. In 1916 he showed his true colors.
It also seems he was one of the many players that were decent enough to be in MLB but decided to stay closer to home in the PCL as in 1918 and 19 he was playing for the SF Seals I do like it when no names get OOTP boosts though. Tiger fan had a great one in CLiff Markle back in the day and for me, I will always remember Jack Doscher Sam Crawford ALMOST got near his real life triple totals...but seemed to be still a great player Dutch Leonard is the anti Pete Alexander...great SP comes into a WS at the end of his career but unlike Alexander cementing the victory, Dutch becomes the goat! You have had some great stories coming out of your dynasty With an OF of O'Doul,Speaker and Ruth, the Cardinals must have horrible P and sub par IF to be predicted so low

1920 Regular Season
Just days into the season, Babe Ruth goes down for 6 weeks with a fractured finger. The expected assault on the record books will have to wait for another season. After a fantastic start to the season, Rogers Hornsby went down with a sprained thumb on June 22nd. Through 61 games, the 24 year old was hitting .415, with a .475 OBP. Obviously, I’m thinking will he be able to keep that up after his return in August, and will he play enough games to qualify for a batting title? It’s a shame. 36 year old Chief Bender has suffered his 2nd devastating injury in two years. Chief tore his UCL, which will have him out for 10 months. Last season, he suffered from shoulder inflammation, which ended his season in June. Bender had a chance at 400 wins. He was pitching great. These 2 injuries will effectively erase almost 2 years of playing time, and make it almost impossible to reach that milestone. Speaking of injuries…..Ty Cobb….again…...He made his 3rd trip to the DL this season in late June. Another what could have been story… Ty Cobb…did I say 3, let’s make that 4 times now… 21 year old Oscar Charleston has hit 25 home runs by Sep 1st. That’s 3 shy of the single season record of 28 by Gavvy Cravath. That leaves one month to hit 4. It’s probable, but not a guarantee by any means. Well that didn’t take long. On Sep 7th, Charleston hit his 28th home run tying the record. On Sep 16th, Charleston sent his 29th home run deep into the left field seats at home against the Reds. Oscar Charleston has set a new single season home run record!!! For reasons I’m unable to comprehend, when everyone is healthy, Tris Speaker has not been starting in ST. Louis. Lefty O’Doul, Babe Ruth and a chap named Cliff Heathcote have been the starters. Heathcoat is hitting .252. Speaker is now having the worst season of his career, hitting .260 with sporadic playing time. Well, Speaker is now demanding a trade, and rightly so. He’s way too good to be backing up anyone. So, we’ll see how that plays out. ![]() ![]() Rogers Hornsby finishes the season with a .420 average!!! Unfortunately, he didn’t qualify for the batting title with only 460 plate appearance. I believe the rule is 3.1 appearances for every game the team plays. So, 3.1 X 154 is 477, so he misses out by 17 plate appearances! ![]() |

1920 World Series Preview
![]() I'm surprised. I'm surprised that the Braves, without Chief Bender, and missing Ty Cobb for much of the season, were able to beat out the Brooklyn Robins, who featured a .420 hitter in Rogers Hornsby, and the probably NL MVP in Oscar Charleston. |

Rule 10.22Adding seventeen at-bats to Hornsby's average would give him a .403 average, easily beating Duncan's .364. I've raised this issue before, but obviously nothing has been done about it. |

1920 World Series
Another best of 9 for this season’s World Series. Boston appears in their 5th world series in 7 years, looking for their 4th win. The White Sox are making their World Series Debut. ![]() The Braves dug themselves into a deep hole going down 3-1, and didn't have to much fight left after wining their 2nd game. The White Sox win their first World Series Title! |

1920 Awards
![]() Wow, Rogers Hornsby win's the NL MVP over teammate Oscar Charleston. I did not see that coming. Both players put up amazing numbers this year. Charleston played the whole season though, so he probably deserved the award. |

For anyone playing with historical players. I cam across this thread yesterday. It has a bunch of new facegens for historical players.
Look at the difference.. ![]() It might take a half hour, but it's worth it. Amazing work, thank you to everyone who contributed to that thread, and the facegens. They look great! |
