TRADE

TO CINCINNATI

Pete Vuckovich
Rich Dauer
Leon Roberts

TO TORONTO

Champ Summers
Santo Alcala

The fans aren't going to like it, but this improves the team quite a bit.

Summers and Alcala are both added to the Blue Jays roster.
Steve Bailey is sent to Cornwall and Dale Ryan and Doug Griffin are both called up.

The new look Blue Jays came out swinging as Mike Parrott completely controlled the Texas offense while the Toronto hitters went to work, downing the Rangers 11-1. Parrott tossed a 3-hitter while the newest Jay, Champ Summers, went 3 for 4 with a homerun and 3 RBI.

WP - Mike Parrott (11-9)
LP - Len Barker (6-9)

Record - 55-46

The Blue Jays are only 1 game behind the Tigers and are about to face them in a 3-game series in Toronto!

The Blue Jays beat the Tigers and are now tied for first place in the AL East!

It was a very back-and-forth game but new Jay Bobby Castillo stopped the Detroit scoring when he needed to as Champ Summers and Oscar Gamble went deep back-to-back in the 7th to give Toronto the margin they needed to win 7-5.

Biff Pocoroba and Warren Cromartie both went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI.

Mark Clear tore his fingernail on the last pitch of the game and will be hindered by it for the next five days.

WP - Bobby Castillo (4-4)
Save - Mark Clear (17)
LP - Roger Erickson (7-12)

Record - 57-46

The Blue Jays have won their seventh game in a row and taken sole possession of the Al East lead! It was an ugly game and new Jay Santo Alcala only managed three innings. The bats did their job, though, sending three over the fence, led by Dan Meyer who went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI as the Jays beat the Tigers 8-7.

WP - Mike Willis (1-0)
Save - Dennis DeBarr (2)
LP - Dave Rozema (12-8)

Record - 58-46

It is now eight in a row for Toronto as they downed the rival Tigers 5-1!

Jim Clancy controlled the Detroit line-up very well. He walked a few but he didn't let them hurt him. Matt Robinson and Champ Summers both went deep for the Jays.

WP - Jim Clancy (5-5)
Save - Rick Baldwin (1)
LP - Larry Gura (11-6)

Record - 59-46

TRADE

TO HOUSTON

Doug Griffin

TO TORONTO

Jim Fuller

Pretty minor trade. Fuller still has a minor league option. Griffin doesn't. That's about it.

Jerome Thomson is activated from the DL. Fuller is assigned to Saint-Hyacinthe (AA).

This was a costly loss for the Jays. Not only did they drop a 6-3 decision to the White Sox, but it was due to the struggles of Dave Hamilton, who they just paid quite a bit for.

More importantly, Oscar Gamble has suffered a strained elbow and is expected to miss 5 weeks of action.

LP - Dave Hamilton (0-3)
