1918 Regular Season Game 63

ONE-HITTER!

Heading into the 4thinning with a 1-0 lead the Red Sox were Ruth’less both literally and figuratively. The Sox exploded for 8 runs including a Tillie Walker 3-run Homer that capped off the scoring. Bullet Joe Bush and Lore “King” Bader did the rest allowing only 1 hit combined for the game while walking 4 and striking out 7. Bush was masterful for 2.2 innings until he left the game with an undisclosed/diagnosed injury. Boston Brass is still waiting to hear from the team Doctors.

Ruth Wins, Dubuc Saves, Detroit Deals Again!

Detroit deals their Stopper for youth

Babe Ruth overcame 3wild pitches late in the game to get the win. Jean Dubuc recorded his 5thsave by retiring the last 3 batters in a game that had fans on the edge of their seat. Tillie Walker hit his 5th homer in the 8th inning for an insurance run that Boston almost needed.

The Detroit Tigers continue their rebuilding by trading 23 year old Established Reliever George Cunningham for two youngsters, RF Sammy Vick the #35 prospect and MR Alex Ferguson the #43prospect.

Boston is still waiting on the Bullet Joe diagnosis but Jack Coombs is prepared to take a role in the starting rotation if needed.

Mays 3 hit’s Yankees!

Carl Mays was impressive on the road at the Polo Grounds as the Sox silenced the Yankee faithful with 5 runs by the 3rd inning. Mays unconventional pitching style has befuddled many a hitters. Ruth and Tiller continued their terrorization of Pitchers going a combined 7-12.

Say it ain't so Joe!

Bullet Joe Bush's right elbow is ailing!

Bullet Joe Bush got his diagnosis today and he’ll miss 7 weeks with tendonitis in his right elbow. Jack Coombs is expected to take his slot in the rotation for as long as he can hold it down. It that doesn’t workout the options get thin and involve a trade for a starter or Babe Ruth moving into a 4 man rotation which would substantially reduce his at Plate appearances for as long as it last!

I didn't realized that Carl threw underhand-like submarine motion !!! ... him, along with Walter ... Hmm ... I wonder how many Deadball pitchers threw Subs ... that may explained longevity of usage then ...

Sucks with Joe ... whose taking his place? ... anybody good down in the minors?

Oh yeah. Though I do admit I only knew that due to this game and getting "The Pitch That Killed" by Mike Sowell. It followed Mays' joining the Red Sox at the same time as Babe Ruth. His joining the Yankees and focussing on the 1920 World Series series chase when he fatally beaned Ray Chapman.

Great Dynasty... keep it up

Heptagonal Report-Side Three

Hello all,

Hope your enjoying this little world of mine. We officially sit (From a Red Sox perspective) exactly3/7 through this 1918 season. The Hated Yankees are playing some great Ball and making trades to get in a position to defend their lead in the 2nd half of the season. More surprising however is the Detroit Tigers going into “rebuild” Mode before July but then again they are already 16 ½ games out. Maybe it’s time for us to think about making a serious play for a quality SS or 3B (Rogers Hornsby anyone?)…imho our two weakest positions. Also given the Injury to George Bullet Bush we may be shopping for a SP soon enough. But then again relievers Jack Coombs and Ferdie Schupp both have a very high endurance. We are trying to avoid a 4 man rotation that includes Ruth as that would cut down dramatically on his PA and that can’t be a good thing (Especially in adynasty built around him). In this Heptangonal report we’ll break the player stats down into leagues instead of them being combined; this will give it a little more depth. Expect this report to be in several post as it is a lot easier to avoid posting catastrophe that way.

Thanks
Enjoy
Rhett

Trade news

Boston/Cincinnati trade.

We have dealt our reserve OF for a back up catcher that bats Left handed this is another move of roster building. We always seem to be short a LHB when if comes to choosing a Pinch Hitter

Here is what other teams are thinking about

BIG SOX RALLY IN 9TH GETS WIN!

Bill Petica gets his first win!

A huge 9th inning Rally highlighted by a Tillie Walker 3 run shot to tie it and a successful “squeeze” Play to take the lead gets Boston a much needed win over the Yankees and prevents Dutch Leonard from taking loss #5. The Sox has 14 batters in a 9th that saw 7 hits and 8 runs cross the plate after being down by 4 going into the inning.
