Dave Lemaczyk had to leave the game after only one batter. The Blue Jays tried to piece together a game, but fell to the Mariners 6-2. Mike Ivie also left the game with an injury.

It is expected they will both go on the DL.

WP - Byron McLaughlin (6-7)
LP - Juan Castaneda (0-3)

Record - 45-56

Pete Vuckovich pitched a 4-hit shut out in an incredibly tight 1-0 win over Minnesota. A solo blast by Oscar Gamble accounted for all the scoring in the game. Vuckovich struck on 6 Twins in the complete game win.

Pete Vuckovich has an ERA of 1.84

He should be mentioned in any Cy Young discussions... but he will never win because he doesn't get enough wins since he is on a last place team.

Oh, that and the existence of Ron Guidry.

He will have to remain happy with his All-Star selection.

A couple of long balls did the trick as the Blue Jays topped the Brewers 6-4. Carlos Hernandez went 2 for 4 with a 3-run shot while Al Woods also went deep.

What happens when you are impatient and put a 'diagnosis pending' guy on the DL? His diagnosis is for 5 days. Sigh.

Minor league contracts signed:

Jody Wilkins
Bernardo Valdes
Fernando Burgos
Dave Walker
Douglas van Sandvliet

A great return to the Jays for Jeff Byrd! After spending the better part of a year on the disabled list, he returned to propel Toronto to an 8-1 win over Milwaukee while giving up 5 hits and walking 4.

Phil Mankowski's debut netted him a 2 for 5 day, matched by Oscar Gamble who included a homerun!

WP - Jeff Byrd (1-0)
LP - Jerry Augustine (8-11)

Record - 48-58

When a last place team faces a first place team, it often doesn't go well for the last place team. The Tigers roughed up Pete Vuckovich and beat the Jays 10-4.

WP - Dave Rozema (14-6)
LP - Pete Vuckovich (8-6)

Record - 48-59

It seemed like Toronto was going to get one back from Detroit but in the 9th inning, with Ed Whitson in to save a tired Dennis DeBarr, a 2-run lead turned into a 1 run deficit, a blown save and a 6-5 loss.

WP - Vern Ruhle (8-0)
Save - Buddy Schultz (24)
LP - Ed Whitson (4-2)

Record - 48-60
