Javy Lopez continues to be a force with his bat, after leading the league in home runs last season, and finishing with a tie for the league lead this year after hitting 47 home runs. Tomoaki Kanemoto also hit 47 home runs this year.

There were a trio of players who retired this year. Greg Wells retired with 574 career home runs, although he didn't hit any in real life. Ken Phelps also retired with 423 career home runs after hitting 123 in real life. Eddie Murray retired with 412 career home runs, and was the second player to reach the 400 club once again, although he fell short of the 504 home runs he hit in real life.

What happened to Cal Ripken? We've seen a lot of guys flop who are in the #400 club, but it's sad to see him struggle like this. He's seems to be stuck on seven home runs!

It looks like the steroid era is going to produce a few more success stories. It looks like Big Mac is destined for 500 at this rate.

It really is sad to see Cal Ripken struggle so much. It's not just home runs, it's all around struggles for Cal. There is really no good reason for his struggles, except he imported as an 18 year old, but he quickly went from top prospect based on his potential to bust, since he never really developed.

He's only played in parts of four years and his line looks like .230/.293/.309 with the 7 home runs. He's been traded, released, signed, and released again. But I expect he's played his last game and was one of those prospects that never lived up to his potential in this world.

It does seem like we'll see some more successes in the steroid era. Things seem to have gotten a little more normal at least.

6/2/1995 - Strawberry hits 400th

Name: HR - Darryl Strawberry.jpg

Darryl Strawberry reached 400 career home runs today. Unlike most of the players who reached 400 before him, I think he is one that had the talent to do so in real life. Strawberry hit 335 home runs in real life, and with his troubles it's not much of a stretch to imagine him having even more success in real life than he did.
