Why do pitchers continue to intentionally walk Teixeria ahead of a-rod? He's now 5-6 in those situations with 3 homers, 2 of which were grand slams this year.

I get the intentional walk to a decent hitter with a bad hitter up next, but why the intentional walk to one of the still more feared hitters in baseball?

Both have been struggling this season, but when you walk Tex, it's like hitting A-Rod on both cheeks with a glove. He's been up to the challenge this year

There was a bit of righty/lefty strategy going on. Acta had R. Perez (L) walk Texeira (S), then he brought in C. Perez (R) to face Rodriguez (R). Did not work out as planned.

I'm Chad Gaudin. I've been with six different teams in seven years. I had a decent August and September last year, but generally I've stunk. Career ERA 4.61, WHIP 1.53.

This season, I am 0-2 with a 7.43 ERA, but the Yankees needed me, so here I am, again. (I was released in Spring Training.)

In today's game, I come in to pitch in the bottom of the 14th inning and I walk the first guy I see. The #9 hitter, batting .224. Four straight balls, all fastballs. Of course, that becomes the winning run after a sacrifice and a single.

Now I'm 0-3 with a 7.71 ERA, but I still have a job with the New York Yankees. They need me!

The bullpen is the weak underbelly of this team, but I'm stating the obvious, of course. The number of losses attributable to the bullpen is rising and costing us ground in the standings.

Sure, Yankee bats were quiet today. Sure, the bullpen gives up runs like anybody else. But, to walk the #9 guy on four straight balls?

It's like you're waiting for something bad to happen every day, only you don't know who it's going to be. The surprise today was Chamberlain, Robertson, and Park pitching well for 4 and 2/3 innings. That was unusual.

Yes the bullpen is horrible, Joba's so-so, Mariano has been good, but Robertson, Mitre, and Gaudin.....

How come the Yankee pitchers wont or cant pitch inside? They let the batter own the plate with no attempt to brush him back......

One of my themes in this thread, a pet peeve really, is the need for pitchers to CHALLENGE hitters! Have the guts to do what you said and have the guts to throw strikes not just when they desperately need to.

For me, this started a couple years ago with Farnsworth and I've noticed it prominently in other relievers since, up to this year's version of Robertson and now this guy. Even Chamberlain, who was a force coming out of the bullpen when he first came up because he was FEARLESS. Now that they screwed up his head trying to teach him how to "pitch," I think he's also fallen into this category.

A relief pitcher has to CHALLENGE hitters, because he cannot afford the luxury of walking #9 hitters in tight ballgames, in short appearances. The best ones do this. The losers who come and go (take a look at all the relief pitcher names on Yankees rosters over the past few years as listed on Baseball Reference) simply do not.

I was watching the game with my son and when Gaudin came in I said the Yankees were scraping the bottom of the barrel. Considering the Jay's recent bullpen woes I have little sympathy for the Yanks.

It's like, you knew the Yankees were about to lose the game... But then again, I had the same feeling when they brought in Park in the 12th, too, so I guess you really never do know...

Jays look tough this year, at least with bats in hand. Home run kings!

I keep thinking the bubble will burst. The problem with all the HR is that it hides very bad BA and OBP. If the HR stop coming we will not score any runs at all.

The good news is that we could have one of the best/deepest pitching staffs in MLB over the next couple of years. Jesse Litsch, Dustin MacGowan, Mark Alphabet and Scott Richmond have yet to pitch this season.

People have been talking about it for a while, but I never gave it serious consideration until now. It was the consecutive-game grand slams that did it, finally. Jorge Posada, Hall of Fame?

I don't see why not. He has great offensive numbers for a catcher.

Tough call. Similiar career numbers to Javy Lopez however Posada was a much better defensive catcher and won more World Series rings. I think he deserves to get in. Playing catcher in the Bronx for this many years at a high level is no small feat.

Wow, I am surprised you had never considered it until now. I haven't broken it down to the level of comparing his numbers to other catchers in the HOF, but I would say he deserves a good look. I have for several years now, the guy has been consistently one of the best catchers in the game for almost his entire career.
