The 2011 trade deadline came and went today and there was a fleury of activity but the Toronto Blue Jays and GM Ryan Stewart did not make any moves and why would they? As we head into August and the dog days of summer the Blue Jays who went 23-3 in July to push their overall record to 86-21, lead the American League East by 31 games over the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles. The Jays have the best record in baseball for the 3rd consecutive season and look like the early favorite to repeat as World Series Champs.

Blue Jays Notable Performances:

SP Kiminobu Hashimoto - 4-0 3.00 ERA
SP Christian Jacobs - 4-1 3.48 ERA
SP Bill Arkell - 4-0 2.88 ERA

GM Ryan Stewart on his teams play so far "I couldn't be happier. We are getting good hitting and pitching and we are on quit a run right now. Having such a large lead in the division will be a good thing come September as we will have a chance to get a look at a few prospects for an extneded period of time and give some of our regulars some rest so they are fresh and ready to go for the playoffs"

24Rocks ,

He leads all rookies in almost every single offensive category and has been playing LF for the entire season for me. I have had him DH a few games to give him a break but he is really good in the field as well with an 8 rating and 10 arm so I would like him out there as much as possible. I think he has the Rookie of the Year Award pretty much wrapped up and with the numbers he has put up he deserves it. I do feel guilty though as I signed him from the Dominican Republic and I don't think any of the other teams are scouting foreigh countries. I have decided that I can only sign 1 foreign player a year and all the rest I will sign and release the rest and have them enter free agency so every team has a chance to sign them. I don't want to have a team full of foreign superstars and win everything too easily. What do you think?

Day-to-Day Injury Shelves Arkell

August 19th, 2011.

Bill Arkell will be watching from hre owner's box after suffering a finger blister in his last start against the Baltimore Orioles. Although team Doctors are not overly concerned, they want to play it safe, listing the injury as day-to-day. The starting pitcher could miss up to two weeks before his injury fully heals. In 2011 Arkell has a record of 13-3 in 25 starts and he has a 3.44 ERA.

GM Ryan Stewart was asked about the injury "He is going to be placed on the 15 day DL and we have recalled SP Andy Simmons from AAA Syracuse. Simmons is performing quite well for the Chiefs going 2-3 with a 1.68 ERA in 28 games. He was going to be a callup in September anyway, this will give us an oppertunity to get a look at him a little bit earlier. We wanted to play it safe with Arkell and put him on the DL so he can be fully healed and rested for the playoffs"

Rosters Expand Jays Add 6 New Faces for September

September 1st 2011.

All across the league Major League Rosters expanded from 25 to 40 as it is that time of year whre clubs like to get a look at the future of their franchises if only for a month. GM Ryan Stewart on his September callups this year "Well since we have such a large lead in the AL East I want to give our regulars a few extra days off in the last month of the season so they can rest and heal any of those minor ailments that plague ball players in a grueling season. We have 6 new players with us this year and we are really happy to get a look at them. The one player that I am happy to see is 3B Dave Chambers who suffered a strained back in August last season while playing for AAA Syracuse and he missed 8 months. He has fully healed and is going to get a chance to play. The 23 year old is the future for us at 3B and we think he could be ready to take over as early as next season"

Jays Callups:

SP Andy Simmons
SP Antonio Perez
CL Vincent Evans
CF Rick Bjork
3B Dave Chambers
2B Lorenzo Vazquez

Raul Ruiz to Miss 1-2 Weeks

September 19th 2011.

Raul Ruiz at first refused to leave today's Tampa Bay-Toronto game after he suffered dead arm syndrom while throwing a pitch in the 4th inning but his manager convinced him not to be foolish. "I'm a competitor" the fiesty Toronto SP said "I'll play through just about anything" Given time to reflect on the situation, he knew it was in his best interest to get immediate treatment. Doctors believe that the injury will keep Ruiz from pitching for 1-2 weeks. This season Ruiz is 19-6 with a 1.92 ERA.

GM Ryan Stewart on the injury "It is unfortunate to loose such a competitor and I am not suprised he did not want to come out of the game. We will put him on the 15 day DL just so we know he won't pitch for the next 15 days. He should be activated just in time for the American League Division Series. SP Andy Simmons or SP Antonio Perez will take his spot int he rotation while he is recovering"

Off Field Injury Sidelines Clarke

September 23rd 2011.

The Blue Jays will be without the services of MR Al Clarke for awhile. He suffered back spasms recently. He reportedly injurd it while attempting but missing a high-five with a teammate. The Jays reliever will be on the shelf for 5-6 weeks. This season Clarke has appeared in 46 games saving 2. His record stands at 5-4 and he has 74 K in 77.1 IP with a 2.69 ERA.

GM Ryan Stewart said that "CL Claudio Vargas will stay with the team after the regular season ends and will fill Clarke's spot in the bullpen" The 24 year old Vargas would have been returned to AAA Syracuse when the regular season ended but will get a chance to pitch in the post season now.

Rash of Injuries Continues: Montero Hurt Will Miss 7-8 Weeks

September 29th 2011.

The Blue Jays got more bad news today as they learned that their star rookie LF Felipe Montero will miss the next 2 months with an injury.

"I'm frustrated right now" Said Jays LF Felipe Montero. "I can't help this team win by sitting on the bench or in the trainers room" Ubfortunately for the Jays that is where he will be spending the next 7-8 weeks. Montera suffered a srtained Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in tdays game against Boston while running the bases. "Believe me" he said "I won't be out a day longer than I have to be"

This season he has mustered a .342 BA with 212 hits in 619 AB's. He has 21 HR and scored 138 runs while driving in 95 of his own.

GM Ryan Stewart on yet another injury "Wow, we have been a little bit snake bitten with the injuries lately. This one really hurts as Montero was blossoming into a very good LF. He will be placed on the 60-day disabled list and CF Rick Bjork will stay with the team and take over in LF for the post season" Bjork like his teammate CL CLaudio Vargas will have a unique oppertunity to win both the International League Crown as well as the World Series Title int eh Same year.

Jays Cruise Through Last Month of Season Finish With Best Record in Baseball

October 3rd 2011.

The Toronto Blue Jays wrapped up their 5th consecutive American League East title today defeating the New York Yankees at home 7-0. September callup SP Antonio Perez went the distance on an 11 hit shutout. The win closes out the months of September and the regular season as the Jays finish with a record of 132-30. They ran away with the division besting the 2nd Place Baltimore Orioles by 43 games and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays by 58 games. It marks the 3rd straight year that the Jays have had the best Regular Season record in baseball.

The Blue Jays will begin their attempt to repeat as World Series Champions against the Chicago White Sox at home in Rogers Center. The Jays will be without a number of regulars including MR Al Clarke and rookie sensation LF Felipe Montero who both missed the majority of the Month of September. Clarke has a chance to pitch in the post-season if the Jays can make it back to the World Series but Montero is likely done for the season. It gives two rookies a chance to compete in their first post seasons. CF Rick Bjork and CL Claudio Vargas will both be on the post season roster and Bjork will likely be the Jays starting LF.

American League Division Series:

Chicago White Sox (92-70)
Toronto Blue Jays (130-32)

Baltimore Orioles (89-73) *Wild Card Winner
Texas Rangers (99-63)

National League Division Series:

St. Louis Cardinals (84-78)
Washington Nationals (98-64)

Florida Marlins (94-69) *Wild Card Winner
Colorado Rockies (100-62)

Toronto's Montero Takes Home 2011 MVP Award

November 8th 2011.

Felipe Montero went on a year long hitting rampage against American League pitchers and was rewarded for a spectacular season with the 2011 MVP Award.

The Toronto left fielder belted the opposition for 212 hits 31 2B, 10 3B, 21 HR and drove in 95 while scoring 138. He hit .342 and posted a .423 OBP.

GM Ryan Stewart on his young LF "It is pretty increadable to win both the AL Rookie of the Year Award and the American League MVP Award in the same season but this kid put up some special numbers. He could have had added to his totals as well but missed the last few weeks of the regular season with an injury and we missed him for the entire playoffs. He is healthy again now and we expect him back at 100 % for Spring Training in MArch"
