I would assume around July 4th you will get quite a few new orders. In other advice, I have no idea what any ESPN radio time would cost, I know a few sportsbooks that are lesser known advertise on there and being that it is pretty much nationwide right now it would reach a lot of the sports fanbase. That would be one idea another would be to make a deal with google that when the words baseball simulation gets seached OOTP baseball comes up first. I have said this before and I guess I'll say it again, I have played baseball sims since 1995. The only reason I played them over OOTP is because I has actually either read about them in some sort of magazine or seen an advertisement. To this day I have NEVER seen an OOTP advertisement or article in any baseball mag that I have purchased.
Ok, firstly we are doing google stuff -but to get top placement everytime costs a lot.

Secondly, we do advertise (and spend a good amount too) but it's online in places people get their baseball fix. Last year we did an ad in Rotowire

Purchased this past weekend...

How!

Had to wait to get enough beaver pelts and buffalo skins. Finally got enough to satisfy the bean counters as SI...

Ughh!

(Oh wait! That wasn't very politically correct...strike the previous statement.)

Ughhhh!

Haven't purchased OOTP2007

1. After all the hype with 2006 and preordering it 5 or 6 months in advance, it was rather disappointing.

2. Online league I play in has yet to switch over. I may end up picking up a copy if they do switch to the new version just to keep playing, but I'm still undecided on that.

3. Still numerous bugs/loopholes/inaccuracies in regards to roster management, particularly with the 40 man roster/options and waivers. Was told by some of the mods last fall that the game was really going to focus on getting these fixed for the 2007 version but according to those who I know that have played the game, they remain unfixed.

4. Seems that the OOTP crew is more interested in adding new features, rather than put that effort into fixing broken features that already exist in the game such as the 40 man roster, winter leagues and so on....

Thumbs down not enough Demo

I tried the Demo (what there was of it).
It did not give enough of a feel for the game to entice me to purchase it.
The Demo should have let me play one full season, doing all the off season stuff into the following March ( this is what Baseball Mogul did with its demo, and it convinced me to make the purchase.)
I will stick with OOTP 6.5 thank you.

If you do, you are making a huge mistake.

And nobody hated OOTP 2006 worse than I did. Nobody.

I dunno, man. I definitely remember actually vocalizing my displeasure...boldly and provocatively in the general direction of my poor monitor screen. I was miffed.

Miffed? Bah. Did the rising stench of it actually make you turn away and hurl?

Silverbullet,

You make a very good point about the demo. They really need to look at releasing a more user friendly demo that gives people unlimited use -- for five days.

The demo should hook people on the game, not leave a bad taste in their mouths.

Marc can't do anything about rosters (legally), and Markus can't rewrite the interface in a patch, but SI could provide a friendlier demo.

All the publiciity in the wolrd won't do any good if people can't give the game a true test drive once they download it.

The sad truth is that you only get one chance to make your pitch -- and the demo is the pitch. If people get annoyed, or can't really get a feel for the game with it, it's hurting sales more than it is helping them.

Just my two cents....

Will

Well said - I agree with your insight; but I also tried that a few pages back and was told by THE MAN that the demo period is sufficient. Maybe for him, but not for me.

I would generally tend to agree, and almost posted such, before considering what there was that I couldn't do in the demo. I guess the only thing you won't get the flavor of is the offseason player progression. Maybe playoffs and postseason awards, although I wonder if you can do that with a custom schedule that ends early? I originally thought you couldn't check out the expansion feature, but you can by doing it before you begin your league. So for me this doesn't detract from my demo experience much at all.

In all, the problem for me is still the impossibility of importing complete history in later years, as referenced in my earlier post in this thread. And from what I've seen in the tech support forum, even with the tests I've run and shared I'm not confident this is something that will be fixed, or even whether it can be as it may well be an incompatibility with my machine, despite my system more than meeting the minimum required specs. I really want to buy the game, but I have to weigh how much impact this has for me.

I think the demo should go all the way to the end of the offseason. Because I know if I put in all the work to sign free agents, make trades, hire new coaches, etc, I'd go nuts not knowing how I'd do the next season and I'd buy the game just to find out.

Hah. If it didn't make you barf then you didn't really hate it.

I tried the demo this year and was very disappointed. Not with the game itself, but with the demo. How are people supposed to know how good the game is if they cannot even get through one full season.

To be clear, I think the 21 day demo period is sufficient.

You ought to be able to make up your mind in three weeks, if you are allowed to play the game as you want to play it after the demo.

I'm a historical simmer. If I read that I can sim baseball history, and I decide I want to get a taste of historicals with the demo, I am going to be disappointed.

For the record, I haven't played the demo, but enough people have been turned off by its packaging that it has to be leaving a bad taste in people's mouths.

For those of you who are jaded with the demo, please try and look past it at the game itself. It's a great game and will only get better with your input.

Will

Why I did not buy until this weekend.

Ok... so I did finally break down and buy the game. Why did I take so long to buy it? Two words - OOTP 2006. Last years experience left me a little bitter. I really like the OOTP product alot, but I felt disenfranchised last year.

So far I like what I have seen, I hope I will not be disappointed again.

How have previous versions had it? As far as I am aware it's the same this year as it's always been>
