I only found out about this compiler last month!! 19 years too late. Then again, my brother would pirate all our C64 software, so it was hit or miss what we got...

FWIW, there is a pretty good .d64 version of MicroLeague floating around out there. A friend of mine that introduced me to MicroLeague (we had a league in 1987 as well) was playing through a season as the Phils just last year I believe.

Eighteen. I run the league more-or-less in real time, simming or watching one game day per real day. There are currently two active pitchers from the original 1988 season, although both are highly unlikely to make it to the 2006 season without retiring.

Personally, I am not going to underestimate the creativity of the more technically talented people on these forms. If Markus does, indeed, release a SQL dump of the database, AND if all of the data we wish to preserve is contained in either text or HTML files, I think that some sort of conversion utility could be possible.

Would it be perfect? No. Might it require a lot of work? Probably. But, if it manages to take half of the pain out of the problems RonCo and cuervo are experiencing, it could be worth it.

All I can say is, online league people, hold onto your league files from each year. You never can tell when something might come around that could help out.
I've been holding on to all our zipped up league files in POTD from each season, plus most of the midseason sims, just in case. The HD space required for it isn't an issue, and it's just one of those situations where I'm hoping that by saving everything we might be a step or three ahead of most other people.

Seems the obvious response for those who are disappointed they can't migrate their league's history is just to not purchase.

The only real leverage anyone has is their wallet. If everyone buys the game, what incentive is there to make the history engine backward compatible?

There's always a list of possible features, Markus is picking the ones that people want and will pay for. Make importing history move to the top of that list, if it really is important (which I think it is, and I have not yet purchased, and this is one reason I'll hold off longer).

This is completely off topic and I never have involved myself in on-line leagues (I like solo play), but I must say your FOBL league's page is absolutely beautiful. I can empathize with the concerns of on-line players when there's that much investment into a league. Beautiful looking page/history.

Haha...their owner bio is hilarious:

Christopher Williams (aka Frozenrope), has been General Manager/Owner/Hot Dog Vendor of the Arizona Discotheques since 2010, when the franchise formally known as the Dakota Roughriders went belly up due to a hardship lawsuit filed by prospect Shawn Clore, who had to play all 9 positions on all three minor league teams.

'Rope amassed the majority of his fortune in the mid-90's through numerous winnings on radio call-in shows across the country. "If you call enough, eventually you'll be caller number 7 and win a prize," says a very happy-go-lucky Rope. "Concert tickets can be scalped, lobster grams can peddled on Ebay, and then there's the occasional cash prize, where I don't have to do anything." Williams promises to run a tight Discotheque ship, with good character guys, strong arms and an attitude for winning at least 63 games a year. "Losing triple digits sucks."

So if I go in and delete the fictional players, what will happen? Will I screw up the entire minor league engine and, thus, development?

Thanks for the input.

This is one of the best ideas I've heard yet in this thread. Instead of taking earlier versions of history to the new version, take the new version to Cato.
Even better, take the cato data and figure out how to import it into ootp2006.

FWIW... I love the fact that our league has built up a rich history. Not just with the teams, but with the players. John Johnson, Paul Pina, James Rhinehart...these names are important to us in this league, because we are so passionate about it. I would love to see the bells and whistles of the new version, but it's gonna break my heart to sever ties with our history in any capacity. I only wish there was something that could be done.

That has to be a tough feeling. Not having had long ties like that, it's difficult for me to know the extent of that heartbreak. If you choose not to continue that league within the current version, I suppose you could always name awards after your key historical players and in that respect honor the league and also have the awards have a real significance when they are acheived in the new version, keeping the memory alive so to speak.

not sure exactly how that would play out, but you are required to have full rosters at all minor league levels now. so, if you delete the ones created on import, you will have to replace them anyway.

Thanks. We may come off as ornery sometimes, but we do appreciate compliments.

Site design credit goes to Simms, though I have helped out with many team logos and put together the uniforms for all of the teams (we have two new teams that need the uniform treatment, now that I think about it). I also helped put together some of the forum skins (though Simms refreshed those with the recent redesign) - every FOBL or FOFL team that wins a championship is honored with their own forum look.

And as you've found, our "maturity" comes in handy for things like the owner bios.

The owner bios are the best thing about being a FOBL owner. That, and Buddy G's trade blocks.

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.

Will the naming conventions be the same, or will there be an easy to way to do a mass conversion? I'm not going to bother putting together a face pack for the new season of my fictional league if we're just going to lose them next year.

How will the photos be named? Will it just be p*.png? Will photos even work the same way?
