Which is more of a testament to how good the Yankees, Red Sox, and (to a lesser extent) the Orioles have been over that stretch than how bad the Blue Jays have been.

If Chipper Jones' 2005 qualified for rate stats (he had 358 AB), his .412 OBP would put him at 7th in the majors:

Helton
Giambi
Pujols
B. Giles
A. Rodriguez
D. Lee
C. Jones
L. Berkman

He'd be 10th in OPS, right ahead of Jason Bay and Vlad Guerrero.

Just giving a little bit of love to Chipper, who is one of the least-like players around these parts and one of the most underappreciated hitters in the bigs. Also, he was a guy written off by many as done after his uncharacteristic 2004. He'd be first in OPS by 23 points over Ensberg among NL third-baggers.

I am experiencing massive manlove for Bob Sanders. Hits like this one are a weekly occurrence in the NFL for him just like they were for him at Iowa:

A roffley-type quote from John Smoltz on his upcoming playoff matchup against Roger Clemens:

"I'm not pitching against Roger Clemens. It sounds good, but I'm pitching against the Houston Astros...If it was just me pitching against him and him just pitching against me, we'd probably both lead the league in strikeouts."

Heh. I voted for Smoltz as my 'favourite member of the Braves' in those numerous polls that appeared in the Summer (and which have no doubt been lost). A baseball player with an engaging, honest personality and a brain. Woot!! They should make him commissioner the second he retires.

It's funny that although I hate the Braves, I tend to like their players, including Smoltz and former Brave Greg Maddux.

Yeah, I think I dislike the Braves just because they are so good. I respect what they've been able to do, and I think Bobby Cox, Leo Mazzone, and John Schuerholz are maybe the 'perfect storm' trio - everything they do synchs up so well and puts the Braves in a position to win every year.

Braves are evil scum******s. If it weren't for that, I'd consider not rooting against them.

I am a Braves fan, but I can certainly understand why everyone hates them. I usually get sick of teams that win all the time (except when they were my team to begin with). Everyone hates routine, I guess.

On a side note, it's nice to finally exist, post-Great Crash.

It's kind of funny that I either hate or dislike every other team that traditionally wins a ton (Yankees, Lakers, Notre Dame, Patriots, the latter being just disliked and not hated), but for some reason I'm a Braves fan. I guess because I liked them when they sucked.
