Yep they are from you
![]() I don't want to post each player individually for 1871 because that would be a lot of spamming, so I do team picture and file until 72 when I will be do only rookies. BTW if you have the time that would be nice to try Harry Wright...

Fort Wayne Kekiongas - 1871
No pictures available for Bill Barrett, Charles Bierman, Henry Kohler, Nealy Phelps and Joe (James) McDermott Obviously like most of what I do for the 19th century more tweaking would be better, but I only have two different versions of FG Modeller to work with.

Harry Wright
William Henry Wright, better known to the baseball community as “Harry” Wright, today strikes historians as, in the words of Bruce Markusen, an “especially underrated Hall of Famer.” Popularly regarded in his time as “The Father of Professional Baseball,” Wright’s modern legacy pales in comparison, though many of his innovations characterize the game that we know today. Harry Wright dropped out of public school at the age of 14, in 1849, to apprentice as a jeweler at Tiffany’s and the next year join the Dragonslayers, on which his father was the star and idol of cricket circles. By 1857, Harry began receiving money for his performance, but while coaching George in cricket on the Elysian Fields in Hoboken, New Jersey, the next year, he looked over to an adjoining field and witnessed his first game of baseball. Wright quickly adapted to, and grew to love, the sport. He and his brother, George, were regarded by the New York Dispatch as “the best exponents of batting as a science in the country”, and Harry personally as “the finest, safest, best, and least showy player in America” according to the Detroit Post.
Wright continued playing ball when he moved to Cincinnati in1864. He adapted his bowling techniques from cricket to become an effective pitcher known for his off-speed pitches that differed from most of the hard-throwing pitchers of the day. He would later use this to relieve fireballer Asa Brainard effectively and thus institute the strategy of relief pitching. The competitive fire of Wright and his fellow club members was sparked by the western visit of the dominant Washington Nationals, for whom his brother, George, played shortstop, and the burgeoning ambition for their own tour. Part of this was due to the fact that the Red Stockings, as the team came to be called, were clearly the dominant club in the west and thus competition was not conducive to profits. Only a traveling, excellent team would be able to accomplish that. It was decided that the Red Stockings would field an openly all-professional team in 1869, the first of its kind. While most would regard the success of the Red Stockings as being strictly contained in their win total, in fact they scored just as precious a victory in the conduct of their behavior. As the first salaried club, the Cincinnatis precipitated great controversy over the institution of professionalism. Wright’s reputation as the most ethical gentleman in the game – “There was no figure more creditable to the game than dear old Harry,” said The Sporting News. After a period of unprecedented dominance, the Red Stockings eventually met defeat in a close and controversial game against the Brooklyn Atlantics on June 14, 1870. From there, the club unraveled after losses to other clubs and the desertion of the Cincinnati fan base. The once-adoring press turned sharply on the club, which by the end of the year officially splintered in an ugly public drama. Wright took the team name and several of its players to Boston in the new National Association (NA), the first professional baseball league. Wright was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1953 by the Veterans Committee, much later than his brother (1937), and much longer than many thought that he should have had to wait. - SABR As requested, gave the facegen a shot. |

Not included in the team picture (no picture to work with) Frank Fleet Dickey Pearce should have facial hair but I can't do them with the pictures I have so I let him as he was already in the database...

Dickey Pearce
One could pull up Dickey Pearce’s statistics at the reference sites and be completely unimpressed. His numbers in the National Association and the National League are unremarkable. This is only part of the story; he was 35 years old when the National Association started and 40 when the National League began. Pearce’s reputation and contributions were made long before. He was one of the most famous and respected of all the early ballplayers. He and James Creighton were two of the game’s most recognizable stars. They were also among the first to be paid for their skills. Creighton’s fame blew bright but short because of his early death, but Pearce played until he was pushing 50 years old.
Pearce, a Brooklyn resident, took part in some of the top games in the early era that defined baseball as the national sport. After one of those contests, the Brooklyn Union proclaimed, “Baseball has become permanently established as the most popular and exciting sport of the American people.” Pearce played for and captained perhaps the top team of the amateur era and the game’s first dynasty, the Atlantics of Brooklyn – champion of the National Association of Base Ball Players in 1859-1861, 1864-1866 and 1869. Pearce’s contributions as a pioneer were numerous. As noted, he was one of the first professionals. Upon joining the Atlantics, Pearce, short and squat (5-feet-3½, 161 pounds), was assigned to the short field position, a roving spot much like the short fielder in present-day softball. At the time the three infielders hugged their bags. Pearce quickly decided he was more valuable moving into the infield to the open spot to the left of second base; hence, he redefined the infield, in the process creating the now-familiar shortstop position. With the bat, Pearce also redefined strategic hitting. He introduced the bunt, and this led to introduction and/or refinement of the sacrifice bunt, squeeze play, fair-foul hit, and place hitting. - SABR Redid the facegen to give him the mustache AESP noted was missing. |

Every players are there but as usual the facial hair were a problem for some... Why they didn't took normal picture facing the camera back then that would be so easier.

Troy Haymakers - 1871
Facial hair trouble: Frank Abercrombie Edward Beavens looks nothing like he should because there's nothing I can't do with that dark and blurry pic so we will need some magic from LansdowneSt to get something less ridiculous for him... I don't even understand why the FG looks this way since what I did with FG Modeller looks nothing like that. BTW the users who removed their old posted pictures in the photo thread are incredibly annoying...

Edward Beavens
Edward Beavens (a.k.a Beavens, Bivins and Bevens) played with the amateur Brooklyn Powhatans in 1869 and the semipro Star club of Brooklyn in 1870 before joining Troy for the NA's inaugural season. He inexplicably departed after going 6-for-15 and scoring seven runs in three games with the Haymakers. Beavens returned to Brooklyn in 1872 and got into 10 games with the Atlantics before disappearing, leaving behind only an image of himself in a team picture. - The Rank and File of 19th c. MLB, David Nemec ($10 on Kindle and great collection of bios snapshots)
I did a new one. I selected the mustache, inverted the selection, brightened the picture, more or less made it a watercolor and then smoothed it out - the mustache having retained its original darkness so as not to be washed away as I smoothed it out. |

1871 finally over... no need to work with Winzip anymore!!! Sure don't understand why the rar files are not allowed in the forum.
106 players (thankfully some were already done well) in a day that was a lot of going back and forth between my two computers because the pictures for that century are so poor quality.
