Bob Anderson 1957

This will only please some Kansas City A's or '60s enthusiasts, but I thought it was odd enough to merit posting.

Bob Anderson, (mostly) reliever of the Cubs (1957-62) and Tigers (1963) was dealt to the A's with Rocky Colavito in a huge deal in the winter of '63-64. Despite being a more-than-adequate bullpen part (4.4 career WAR) he not only didn't make the '64 A's roster - before he knew it he was pitching for the Lewiston Broncs of the Northwest League alongside 19-year old infielder Tony LaRussa and 23-year old Marcel Lachemann.

Never saw him before in color for Kaycee, so here it is out of Topps Vault, plus one from Detroit.

Missing Players List

I hadn't used the missing slist for about a year and a half, so I forgot how to reach it. That won't happen again. I just bookmarked it. Thanks for the help!

Tex Clevenger 1961

I saw him on the UIN list and was unable to find him using the search function here so here are a couple pictures of him (my apologies if someone else did and the search function didn't catch it).

New York Mets of the early 70s

I was just over at Ebay and saw a Topps Vault image of a guy that we were all looking for at some time in the past: Dave Schneck of the Mets.

That prompted me to dig up a few more Mets of the early 1970s:

Leroy Stanton (1970 Topps Vault) / Jesse Hudson (1970 Topps Vault) / Charlie Williams (1971 Topps Vault) / Brent Strom (1972 Topps Vault) / Dave Schneck (1972 Topps Vault)

The 1967 Reds

Some here have written about the contradictory evidence presented by photography from the Reds' spring training camp in 1967.

I think it just got a little clearer.

Virtually all photographs of Cincinnati in the spring of 1967 shows the Reds in their 1961-66 style pinstriped vest/pinstriped cap style, leading to endless confusion dating photos of the '65-'67 era (1967 and later Reds, wearing 1966 and earlier units). Recent photographs of a few guys who spent very limited time with the Reds that year - wearing the 1967 full sleeve pinstripes and red caps - have confused the issue still further.

I think we can now surmise what happened, based on this photo. It's a great shot of then-19-year-old-rookie pitcher Gary Nolan, from the cover of The Sporting News of June 3, 1967, and he is - wearing the new '67 uni. And he's not at Crosley Field in Cincinnati, either; the background is the Reds' spring camp in Tampa.

So the evidence seems unmistakable. The Reds wore their old uniforms for nearly all of spring training. Then after the 28-man Opening Day roster was set (1967 was the last year teams didn't have to cut back to 25 until mid-May), they outfitted them in the new jerseys - at least for the benefit of the photographers.

Off Topic: New Card Images (basketball)

I wanted to post here for any one who has downloaded my baseball cards a link to my basketball cards which I have been creating for the past 2 1/2 months. I will be returning to baseball card creating this week. Thanks again for all the great images; I have continued to check each day during this latest project and hope to have a new baseball card update in the coming weeks.Notes for the basketball cards can be found below.

I have uploaded the 10 seasons (ABA-1970-71, 1971-72, 1972-73, 1973-74; NBA-1968-69, 1969-70, 1970-71, 1971-72, 1972-73, 1973-74). In addition to completing the new project with several thousand cards, I also updated the old one with several hundred new cards. I removed the uploads for the old set replacing them with fully updated zips. Game Front

To recap, the old set was created using the 1971-72 Topps Basketball Template; the new set uses the 1968 Topps Football Template which I think has been enhanced by having them color-coded using team colors. In all, there is a total of 15,015 cards between the two sets, divided into two naming formats; one for both Actionpc Basketball and Cactus League Pro Basketball and the other for TMsg Basketball. For those who downloaded my basketball cards previously, I implemented a change this time by removing the year from the card names. This allowed me to use the same cards for both ActionPC and Cactus League Basketball which didn’t have the year option. I also made another charge which I also edited with the old set. I created cards using Muslim names beginning with the season the player made the change. Although Basketball Reference does not note when the changes became effective, thanks to Cactus League Basketball I was able to name each player correctly for the various seasons. Using the four Muslim players who played during this era, I have illustrated the naming formats below. Incidentally, Don Smith did not change his name until 1974-75 which I am not going to be doing. In fact, other than updates, I am done with Basketball.

Actionpc/Cactus Format (underscore):
Lew_Alcindor (1969-70, 1970-71)
Kareem_Abdul-Jabbar (1971-72, 1972-73, 1973-74)
Warren_Armstrong (1970-71)
Warren_Jabali (1971-72, 1972-73, 1973-74)

TMsg Format (space):
Wali Jones (1972-73)

Note: For players with multiple image options; a suffix of 1, 2, 3 is added.

I would like to thank Mark L (Lebby) and Mark S (FrostyMalt) for their time consuming efforts to colorize black and white images. Mark S created the templates and Mark L also provided multiple extracted images for the nearly 2000 players who played during the 10 seasons with our every attempt to include images for each uniform worn when available. Without their help, I would not have even attempted this new set.

There should be a card for every player who played in at least one game during the 10 seasons. If you happen to have a better image than what I have, please let me know. With any luck, I might just get a chance to use these cards for some games using the three simulations noted above. If you notice any errors, please let me know. It is very possible that a player name, position or naming format could have been messed up.

Enjoy
