Much appreciate you guys.
BIG THANKS to careforameatball and jg2977... and also rainier1, too... I needed revisions on two jerseys to complete all the teams' graphics... and he recreated them to perfection... rainier1 is quite skilled at graphics... hope he will be active on the Mods Forum. Boy, this new league is going to be a bunch of work... it may take me a month to get it all set up to near-perfection... I will be lucky to get to that point.
The map went very well... I was pleased with it. I'm getting pretty good at using Paint for maps...and paint.net for transparency and resizing... still can't change any colors on logos and jerseys I find from other sources on the OOTP Mods Forum... I have to use them the way the designer created them. I'm having a problem with the rosters... only 16 players on the team with 10 on the reserve rosters... the game can't handle a small league like this roster-wise... it puts too many pitchers on the main roster and 7 of the 10 reserve roster players are pitchers... many teams don't have enough position players to field a team. Gonna have to fix this manually.. it will be nice just to just set it up and play it... but I can't do that... I want to play it my way. Logo, Jersey and Cap installation will take some time. They are beautiful and almost-to-perfection... several people graciously filled in a few gaps for me for missing jerseys and some name changes... low was very helpful... so was a new guy on the Graphics Forum... his name was rainier1 and he did a great job on two of my special requests. With the small rosters, players are going to have to play multiple positions... I will have to manually do this... also pitchers will have to play other positions and some of them have to be good hitters, like they are in high school and college... townball-league players can and must play more than one position... I have never understood why OOTP will create players that can play only one position... a shortstop should be able to play second and third base reasonably well... maybe any outfield spot, too.... a left fielder can play right field, too. It will take me some time, but eventually we will get there. The South Island Supreme League is coming to a ballpark near you very soon! Last edited by Eugene Church; 05-18-2021 at 11:59 AM. |

Not really important to anybody but me... but I did a touch up on the map... there was a big area with no town near the Irish Channel... it needed a team to fill it in the wide empty area... I moved Anderson to near the Irish Channel.
I think the map looks well-balanced now as far as placement of towns. Last edited by Eugene Church; 05-22-2021 at 06:13 PM. |

I decided to make the South Island League 3 leagues with one division each with 8 teams each... I didn't want less than 8 teams in a league.
Now I have to add four more teams to the league and to the map... still have some very fine teams with very good logos, jerseys and caps... they are just as good as the first 20 teams I chose... so this was an easy solution. Spent much of yesterday running a test league to see how the AI handles the small rosters and small reserve rosters... it did it pretty well... I was impressed and happy with the results... it would use one primary starter with 2 relievers on the main roster... and the reserve roster had 3 pitchers and 7 position players... I think this will work fine. But the league stats were not what I wanted... I chose the year 1940 as it was the closest to the stats I wanted... one league hit .258 which is close to what I wanted... the other batted only .234... this was the only shortcoming... all the other stats were fine as far as doubles, home runs, league ERA. Since this will be a weekend semi-pro league there should be more errors, past balls and base stealing than you find in professional baseball... I will have to adjust these. But I'm sure I can work this out in more test leagues using the league modifiers.... it just takes time and patience. Last edited by Eugene Church; 05-19-2021 at 10:57 AM. |

The 4 teams added to the South Island League are the Chandler, Kanata, Pittsfield and Taranto.
I updated the map. |

I'm trying to get the stats to fit a 1950s semi-pro league... can't get passed balls, stolen bases and double plays within tolerance.
I have run about 15 test seasons so far. Last edited by Eugene Church; 05-22-2021 at 01:02 PM. |

Created a new league to use for tests... did not get good results.
Will keep trying to adjust stats that resemble a semi-pro league. Found that if I let the AI control the whole league... after 5 seasons teams run out of players... it might be the 16-man active rosters and 10-man reserve rosters... the AI may not handle that well. Not sure what I doing wrong... looks like I will have to go back to running the league myself and administer the league. I think I will just choose 12 teams... create 2 six-team leagues... 15-game season... no playoffs... and simplify things... I should really get to know the players after a year or two of play. But it is a huge problem for me to cut down from 24 teams with excellent logos, jerseys and caps... me thinks, I am much too much enamored with beautiful graphics. Yes, that is my all-time favorite type of league... like the MLB in the 1950s with just 8 teams in the National and 8 in the American... no interleague play... the only way there was interleague play was if they made the Worlds Series.
That's my kind of baseball. In that day before free agency, you could keep track of who played for who as the rosters didn't change a lot from year-to-year. Impossible to follow 30 teams today with all the roster changes each season. Gimme that old time religion and that old school baseball and EC is happy... I like oldie music, too. ![]() Some people might say EC is an oldie, but a goody... hope so, anyway. Last edited by Eugene Church; 05-22-2021 at 06:15 PM. |

Nowadays, the minors are purely for development of the rookies... and they don't have veterans anymore. Ahhh... the good old days of yesteryear. Hope I don't bore you young 'uns too much. |

I really had a lot of trouble trying to set up a league with promotion and relegation... I couldn't figure it out using the custom league mode.
I finally just loaded up a MLB configuration... and added a Triple A league... I made them both Level 10 leagues. I had to change the league structures... deleted 24 teams from the MLB and changed the names of 6 teams to 6 of the teams in the South Island Premier League... then I altered the structure of the Triple A league... deleted 24 teams and just kept 6 of them for the South Island Second Division. It all worked in theory... I will find out when I start playing games. I will have to edit the rosters... the AI can't handle a 16-player roster... it will put 9 pitchers on a team with 7 position players... no problem I can do it in a day or two. I installed all of my logos, jerseys and caps... they look very good... not excellent... they don't always look as good in the game as they do prior to installation... many times they get lost in the black skin background. I will work on changing the items that don't have good contrast. Most of them look fine... I am fairly well pleased. I will post all 12 teams before I begin the league. All the logos, jerseys and caps have been loaded for the 12 teams... I fixed all the few shortcomings...poor contrast on caps... improved secondary logos so they would show up well on the black background at 50 x 50 pixels... created an away jersey for one team because it had the team nickname instead of town name... in theory the graphics are now perfect... all with good contrast and clarity... the logos, jerseys and caps are well done... should show up very well on game screens.
Need to fix the rosters... the AI couldn't deal with the 16-man rosters... put too many pitchers on the some teams and they didn't have enough position players for a lineup. Settings were set for 16-man rosters, 10-man reserve rosters with 3-man staff, one starter and 2 relievers and 13 position players. I will promote the first place team in the second division each season to the first division... and demote the sixth place team from the first division each season to the second division. I edited 6 team rosters... with only 16-player rosters I made sure the depth charts had backups at each spot.
Boy, I hope these players generated by the AI have decent talent... there are a lot of players with low ratings... I never have played with this type of talent. Hope they will improve over their current ratings. 6 more teams to do and the South Island League will be ready to rock and roll around Wednesday or Thursday. The last thing I will do is manually put in the league schedule. |

I don't want to do that in the South Island League... I want to do as little administering as possible, so I can just enjoy playing the games and reporting the results on the Dynasty Forum. The IPA has worn me out with its administrative requirements. The South Island League will be the first one that I did not totally control. I want to see if the AI will give me reasonable stats for the season I pick to play... will begin with the 1955 season. It should do it correctly if Markus and the crew have designed it well... I think they usually do things well.... and if they don't, they fix it in patches... OOTP really gives good customer service. I will watch the statistical trends as I play the games... I can correct any great aborations I find... I don't think this will happen... the changes I usually have to make are usually just fine tuning, nothing major required. |

Sometimes what I will also do is adjust the ballpark factors if they aren't to my liking. Some of the teams who play in the mountain ranges in the IPA get ballpark ratings that are more in line with Coors Field in Denver. Last edited by jg2977; 05-24-2021 at 01:27 PM. |

Have fixed the rosters of 11 teams... just one more to go, then I will create the schedule manually.
It won't be long before the South Island League will be underway. Looks like the AI can't create good free agents... the Free Agents page was filled with page after page of players with really poor ratings. I deleted all of them and created my own free agents... most of them average... some good ones and a very few stars. I'll see how it goes. |
