Just 3 every day batters at league average or better, but luckily for us, it was a great pitching week.

Kortz takes BOW with 5.5 RC, and is pushing toward league average for the season.

Still at 4 batters league average or better, with Kortz pushing to make it 5, as mentioned earlier.

A very strong pitching week for the Boars. Harris throws another 6 shutouts innings in his tryout as a starting pitcher.

Melchor is out for 5 weeks with a strained rotator cuff, so he's done for the regular season.

Fred Steward takes the POW award with 0 ER in 8.1 IP in his start. He did allow 3 unearned runs, 3 BB, 5 K. For the season he has 79 K, 77 BB. It's a miracle. Now, we need him to improve in his ratings, particularly in the offseason.

That's it for August, so we'll update NABO and then get back to seeing if Birmingham can hold down 3rd place for the remainder of the season.

Another 20 win month (20-7 in August, 20-5 in July) has Gotham in control of the division, with New York in solid position for the wildcard. Baltimore has fallen off, after leading the division for the first half of the season.

Motor City was 14-15 in August, but fortunately for them, Indiana went 11-18 and Motor City has taken over 1st place, with Indiana looking to hold on to the final wildcard.

Carolina has the division lead, Georgia is the WC leader ... so both teams will likely make the postseason, with Gotham and Havana likely the take the 1-2 seeds and enjoy that 1st round playoff bye.

Havana has dominated the division all year, and they are in position to secure one of the top 2 seeds for the postseason.

Birmingham starts its brutal September schedule with a 4-3 week, still battling to hold on to that 3rd place status.

Matt Baker having a throwback week to his dominance last season, perhaps trying to influence his role on the team next year.

Pete Collins looks to be a good waiver wire pickup.

Heronemus was great in the bullpen, and the team will give him a couple of starts as the season winds down.

Tony Harris has been outstanding as a SP, and Angeli keeps being an effective reliever, making the transition from SP to RP.

Bob Fabiaschi may also get some tryout starts before the season ends.

I don't understand how this guy isn't more dominant. 2 not very good seasons with the Boars, despite some very good ratings.

The Boars played well, but went 2-4 during the week. 3rd place is not looking likely ... maybe we can finish over .500.

This kind of sucks. Injured all of last year, pitched well in the minors. Gets promoted to ML and *boom* career ending injury.

Well, here we go ... the last Birmingham Boars update of the season. It's 10 games, as we combined this week's games and the last 3 games of the season, into one update.

6-4 over their last 10 games sees the Boars finish above .500, but in 4th place in the division. It's a disappointing season, for a few main reasons ... (1) the success of Eric Glazman as a SP, who we traded to San Diego (with RF Calloway) for RF Elijah Beverly, (2) the disaster of the season that our pitching staff had, taking a step back from last year. The good news is that the bullpen ended up like 6th best in the East, ad King and Harris should be a good 1-2 at the front of the rotation, with Melchor, Takiuchi, and Steward rounding out the rotation, giving the prospects one more year to continue their development.

Both NY teams make the postseason, with Gotham the 'Beast of the East' being the heavy favorite to claim the title.

Indiana, led by MVP front-runner Willie Briseno, hangs on to win the division. Briseno, is a free agent after next season, so the window for Indiana to win a title may be closing.

Georgia and Carolina make the postseason, both teams rely heavily on pitching, defense, and running ... themes that are strong in the division.

Havana may not have the biggest names, but they are good ... very good in all aspects ... except the bullpen.
