Yeah Dacey deserved a title shot with the 8 straight wins, but couldn't do anything with it once he was there.

You're closing in on 2000 posts...that's very impressive. As they say in the Swedish army about guys that don't quit...You must have a really thick forehead.

Keep it going!

Solly Smith from retired to champ!

October 20, 1911

Main Event

FW - Solly Smith (4/CH) (25-16-3) scored a KO9 over Oscar Gardner (2/5) (22-6-1) to win the vacant WBA FW title. Smith who retired in 1909 and came back a year later, lost his first return bout but has won 8 in a row since.

Smith controlled the fight but did get knocked down in the 7th. He dropped Gardner with a right hook in the 9th and Gardner was unable to make it to his feet.

I had it 77-74 Smith at the stoppage.

Regional Title Fight

HW - George Christian (UR) (11-0) scored a TKO1 over Boer Rodel (UR) (10-1) to win the vacant AABU HW title. Christian dropped Rodel in the first minute then pounded him until the ref stopped it late in the round.

Title Eliminator

WW - Jack Britton (1/1) (23-3-6) scored a narrow SD12 over Young Peter Jackson (3/5) (26-7-2) to win a IBF title eliminator bout. Britton will go on to face Charley Hitte for the title in December.

Very close fight with a lot of very tough rounds to call. There were no knockdowns or cuts. I had it 116-115 for Britton. The official judges had it 116-115/114-118/117-115.

Other Fights

WW - Jack Bennett (club) (11-19-2) scored a UD8 over Fred Kay (UR) (9-1) to mar Kay's undefeated record. Kay's left eye was swollen and was knocked down in the 8th which proved to be the difference. I had it 76-75 as did all the official judges in this club fight.

BW - Terry McGovern (10/8) (36-8-4) TKO4 Joe O'Leary (31/39) (11-8-2) (o'leary at pre)

BW - Kid Williams (UR) (9-1) UD8 Austin Rice (club) (9-26-5) (williams at pre, rice at post in this club fight ..... Rice is officially the worst 7 rated fighter in my universe)

Kilbane retains title

October 21, 1911

Main Event

FW - Johnny Kilbane (CH) (22-2-1) dominated a fight with Tommy O'Toole (10/11) to retain his WBC FW title. It was his second defense.

Kilbane won nearly every round and O'Toole's right eye was swelling from the 6th round on. There were no knock downs or cuts.

I had it 147-139, the official judges had it 147-139/148-138/ and my God one judge had it 144-144. So Kilbane wins a MD15 thanks to one paid off judge.

Regional Title

HW - Pearce Henry (11/7) (17-0) continued his domination of the HW division with a KO10 over Charlie Richardson (35/48) (12-1-5) to retain the CBU title. It was his second defense of the CBU HW title.

Henry battered Richardson. Both eyes were swelling, with the left eye completely shut. Richardson was cut over the right eye. He was down in the 8th and then 4 times in the 8th before he stayed down.

Henry now has 44 knockdowns and 15 stoppages in 17 fights. I had it 89-81, at the stoppage.

Other fights

LW - George Keys (31/28) (15-0-2) (pre) scored a UD10 over Kid Cleveland (102/105) (8-7-2) (pre) in a close fight. It was anyones fight after the 7th round, then Keys won the 8th and knocked Cleveland down in the 9th to run away with the win. I had it 97-92, the official judges had i t96-93/98-91/97-92.

WW - George Cole (2/2) (16-10-4) KO2 Honey Mellody (35/39) (22-17-1)
HW - Sam McVey (44/37) (29-8) KO7 Jack Marks (106/113) (11-15-1)
BW - Jimmy Gorman (38/32) (17-2-1) MD10 Dave Ross (51/57) (13-10-1) (Gorman at pre)

Someone needs to explain to O'Toole's manager that you need to buy off at least two judges or otherwise it's a waste of money.

Speaking of O'Toole, it reminds me of this story I heard the other day down at O'Doyle's:

Father Murphy walks into a pub in Donegal, and says to the first man he meets, "Do you want to go to heaven?"

The man said, "I do, Father."

The priest said, "Then stand over there against the wall."

Then the priest asked the second man, "Do you want to go to heaven?"

"Certainly, Father," was the man's reply.

"Then stand over there against the wall," said the priest.

Then Father Murphy walked up to O'Toole and said, "Do you want to go to heaven?"

O'Toole said, "No, I don't Father."

The priest said, "I don't believe this. You mean to tell me that when you die you don't want to go to heaven?"

O'Toole said, "Oh, when I die, yes. I thought you were getting a group together to go right now."

Still have two months to finish before I get that started. Plus at first it will all be beginner fights against TC's.

Harvey keeps title

Main Event

Fly - Charley Harvey (CH) (17-3-4) got an unlikely win again over Johnny Hughes (16-4-6) with a TKO11 to retain the WBA Flyweight title.

Harvey who won the title on a DQ was way behind on points in this bout as well, when a cut nose from the 4th round got bad enough for the fight to be stopped in the 11th. Harvey was cut over the right eye in the 7th but his cutman did a better job.

I had it 98-93 Hughes at the stoppage.

Regional Title

FW - Cal McCarthy (6/5) (21-6) scored a KO7 over Eddie O'Keefe (UR/18) (12-1-2) (pre) for his second defense of the USBA FW title.

Pretty even fight with O'Keefe getting cut over the left eye in the 2nd and then knocked out by an uppercut in the 7th.

I had it 57-57 at the stoppage.

Other fights

HW - James Jeffries (23/12) (42-11) rallied to win the last two rounds to win a narrow UD10 over Philadelphia Jack O'Brien (6/13) (28-7-2) to get back into the title mix.

Jeffries struggled with O'Brien's boxing skills but finally caught Jack and dropped him in the 6th. O'Brien recovered and won the next two rounds but Jeffries rallied again to take the final two rounds.

I had it 95-95, while the official judges had it 95-94/95-94/96-93.

HW - Mike Brennan (club) (19-21) (post) scored a UD8 over previously unbeaten Jack Fitzgerald (UR) (9-1-1) (pre). Fitzgerald lost the first 4 rounds including getting knocked down in the 4th. He wasn't able to overcome that but did make it close. I had it 77-75, but the official judges all scored it 77-74.

LW - Gus Brown (60/43) (14-4-2) TKO8 Young Erne (77/85) (17-10) (brown at pre ... Erne continues to disappoint)

HW - Larry Foley (12/7) (29-9-3) MD10 Jeff Clark (20/24) (14-3-1)

Just out of curiosity. Have you given any thought of how you are going to handle Ali's absence?

I'm really looking forward to the 60's uni.

Changed my mind. Just finished October 1911. Before November 1911 is run. January 1960 will run. Decided they didn't need to be run at the same month. At first glance Ali isn't gonna have too much competition as he is rated 15 and his nearest competitor in 1960 is rated 6.

Tommy if you are talking about the 3 years or so Ali was gone, that won't be a factor here.

With Foreman I'm not sure how I will handle it yet ... I'm thinking I will bring him back with the Old George rating. I might retire him in the year he really retired also. Not sure what I will do but I have some time to think about it.

Damn, 60s and 70s HWs with their forced exlies and retirements making life diffcult for the guys trying to run universes. While, Ali won't have much competition the rest of the weightclasses should be fun.

Regional Title

BW - Johnny Murphy (10/6) (19-4-2) scored a KO6 over Frankie Burns (14/15) (18-4-1) (pre) to retain the USBA BW title.

Burns was in complete control of the fight winning all the rounds before getting caught with a right hook that ended the fight.

I had it 50-46 at the stoppage.

Regional title

LH - Pietro Boine (UR) (7-3) (pre) scored a KO8 over Ralf Boehm (UR) (2-5-1) (pre) to take the EBU LHW title away.

Boine dominated the fight, winning every round. He knocked Boehm down in the 3rd, 6th, and twice in the 8th to finish him off.

I had it 80-71 at the stoppage

Other fights

LW - Jack Blackburn (1/1) (21-12-5) scored a UD12 over Harry Lyons (4/4) (34-17-1) in a WBO title eliminator fight. Blackburn will vie for the title in January of 1912 vs. the winner of the McAuliffe-Attell fight next month. Blackburn controlled the fight from the 6th round on to take an easy decision. There were no knockdowns or cuts. I had it 117-112, the official judges had it 117-113/1164-114/118-114.

HW - Carl Morris (UR) (11-0) (pre) scored a KO10 over Jack Gardner (95/101) (8-12-1) (pre) to remain unbeaten. Morris struggled in this fight getting cut in the 7th and knocked down in the 8th. He rallied to KO Gardner in the 10th. I had it 86-85 Morris at the stoppage.

FW - George Chaney (UR) (8-0-2) (pre) savlaged a draw against Joe Cain (club) (3-19-4) to remain unbeaten. Chaney got off to a good start then faded down the stretch. Cain was cut over the right eye in the 3rd. I had it 77-75 for Cain. The official judges scored it 77-75/76-76/75-77.

MW - Rube Ferns (16/12) (30-15-1) TKO9 Rufus Williams (57/65) (11-4-3)

I don't think Johnson will be having much trouble in his WBO defense. Choynski/Jeanette should be a solid fight and I look forward to seeing Jack Lewis' run to the top. All the LWs out there better fear the man.
