**** Universe Note ****
I have decided to add more title belts. Once a division has more than 40 fighters (effects HW and MW right now) the LBC title will be fought for. Once a division has more than 70 fighters (only HW right now) the LBF title will be fought for. Right now I am mid way through August, at the end of the month I will take the top two ranked fighters for the LBC and they will meet when they both are able to fight. Once the LBC title has been decided I will do the same for the LBF. |

Herrera Scores First Big Win
August 26, 1905
Aurelio Herrera (7-2) shook off a horrible start to win a UD10 over Owen Moran (15-3-1). Herrera was throughly dominated in the first 3 rounds of the fight. He suffered a cut under his left eye and both eyes were starting to swell. A right uppercut at the start of the 4th changed the tide as Moran was dropped. Herrera then kept up the pressure and won the 5th and the 6th rounds. Moran started to get his senses back in the later rounds but it was too little as the momentum had clearly swayed the judges. I had it 95-95. Danny Wildhawke at ringside scored the fight 96-95 Herrera. The official judges had it 95-94/95-94/96-93. Herrera's next fight will be his 10th and will place him in the rankings for the first time. |

With September done the newly minted LBC has announced their first two championship bouts which will take place the first month both fighters are eligible to fight.
In October LBC #1 Charley Mitchell (17-4) will face LBC#2 Bob Armstrong (18-5-2) for the Heavyweight title. In November LBC #1 Joe Butler (18-4) will face LBC#2 Jack Burke (16-6-2) for the Middleweight title. MW Jack Dempsey NP (23-2) somehow got screwed!!! He is ranked 9th by the LBC. So the newly formed LBC already has controversy. |

Mitchell Blasts Armstrong For Lbc Crown
October 2, 1905
Charley Mitchell (18-4) revenge one of his loses with a TKO15 over Bob Armstrong (18-6-2) to win the new LBC title. Armstrong was never in the fight getting knocked down in the 2nd and 4th to dig a huge hole. He won a few middle rounds before getting blasted in the later rounds. He was knocked down in the 10th, 11th, and 3 times in the 15th before the ref stepped in with less than one minute remaining. Mitchell had lost a UD10 to Armstrong in April of 1904. This was his 6th straight win since which included impressive victories over Sam McVey and Tom Sharkey. I had the bout 137-125 at the time of the stoppage. Ringside expert Dan Cuoco had it 137-127. On the undercard HW - Tom Lees KO4 Frank Slavin LHW - Al Weinig DQ9 Leo Houck (Houck DQ'd in what appeared to be only his 2nd foul of the night) HW - Charlie Wilson UD6 Joe Hess (club, Wilson a beginner) Hw - John McDermont MD6 Herberito Rojas (club, Rojas a beginner) LHW - Charlie O' Donnell UD6 Harry Baker (club, Baker a beginner) |

Choynski Finally Fulfills Potential
October 12, 1905
#3 ranked LHW Joe Choynski (18-7) finally lived up to his potential winning an UD15 over champ Jack O'Brien (13-1-1). The fight was seperated into 3 different periods. Round 1-5 were controlled by Choynski. O'Brien was cut under the left eye in the 5th round and that eye started swelling up. That seemed to wake the champ up as he won 4 out of the next five rounds including knocking down Choynski in the 7th. After 10 it appeared O'Brien would cruise to another title defense as I had it 97-94. Choynski turned the tables though and won 4 of the final 5 rounds and scored a stunning knockdown in the final round to seal the victory. I had it 143-142. Jim Trunzo ringside still had O'Brien winning 143-142. The official judge's scorecards weren't that close scoring it 144-140/144-141/144-141. On the undercard MW- Hugo Kelly UD10 George Cole WW - Buddy Ryan UD10 Frank Solomon MW - Charles Goff DRAW James Brady (Goff's final club fight before moving up) HW - Pat Kiely MD10 James Dalton (club fight) WW - Harry Lewis DRAW Mike Cushing (club fight) |

Plimmer Wins First Title Defense
October 27, 1905
BW - Billy Plimmer (14-5-4) won a UD15 over #4 Frankie Neil (10-11-2) in a closely contested fight. Plimmer pulled away at the end with a 14th round knock down. It was his second of the fight as he put Neil down in the 8th also. Plimmer never seemed to take control of the fight however as it was tied going into the 14th round. I had it 143-141. Darryl Woodford ringside scored it 143-140. The official judges had it 143-140/144-139/142-141. On the undercard BW - George Dixon UD10 Joe Bowker MW - Billy Baker UD10 Jim Hall BW - Maxey Haugh MD6 Billy Rotchford (Rotchford fought as a beginner in this club fight) LHW - Morris Heffey KO9 SP Stockton (club fight) BW - Digger Stanley UD10 Johnny Reagan (club fight) |

Lbc Middleweight Title Still Undecided
November 6th, 1905
LBC #1 Joe Butler (18-4-1) rallied and scored a 15th round knock down to salvage a draw against LBC#2 Jack Burke (16-6-3). In a fight pretty much dominated by Burke, the late knock down evened the score on two judges cards. A relatively uneventful fight until the final round was marked only by a cut on Butler's nose in the 2nd round. I had it scored 143-141 in favor of Burke as did ringside expert Jim Trunzo. The official judges scored it 142-142/143-141 (Burke)/142-142. On the undercard MW - Jack Dempsey NP TKO1 Dick O'Brien WW - Dick Burge KO4 Jack Bennett (bennett will drop to club) MW - Jack Moffat KO5 Bill Slavin (moffat fought as a beginner in a club fight) HW - Marvin Hart UD10 Tompkin Gilbert (club fight) MW - Johnny McGlade DRAW Matty Matthews (Matthews fought as a MW in this club fight) Last edited by mh2365; 11-14-2004 at 08:53 PM. |

Ryan Cruises To 8th Defense
November 11th, 1905
Tommy Ryan (23-0) cruised to his 8th title defense with a UD15 win over #3 Jimmy Gardner (12-8-2). Gardner managed to finish the fight despite being knocked down 4 times. The fight was somewhat close thru 7 with the fight unofficially 68-65 for Ryan. Ryan dropped Gardner in the 8th and it was one sided from then on. Gardner also went down in the 10th and twice in the 14th. I had it 147-134. Walt Arnold at ringside had it 146-137. The official judges had it 148-133/146-135/145-136. on the undercard LW - Barney Donovan DRAW Patsy Sweeney FW - Tommy Sullivan TKO4 Joe Cain WW - Dal Hawkins TKO1 Otto Sieloff (hawkins fought as a beginner in this club fight) HW - Gus Ruhlin KO5 Fred Crossley (club fight) FW - Oscar Gardner KO5 Eddie Santry (club fight) |

Gans Wins 10th Title Defense
November 23rd, 1905
Joe Gans (20-1-1) scored another UD15 (his 3rd) over #2 George Lavigne (16-6-1) for his 10th title defense. Gans dropped Lavigne with an uppercut 1 minute into the first round then controlled the fight the rest of the way. It was a boring fight just like the previous 2 matches. Gans continues to avoid the main challenger to his crown Jack McAuliffe who moved up to #2. McAuliffe was recently upset by Bill Dacey and Gans laughed at the notion of fighting him. "He lost to Dacey, I should fight Dacey instead." It was pointed out to Gans that McAuliffe was well ahead on score cards when a bad cut stopped the bout in the last round. Gans' replied "Still counts as a loss don't it?" I scored the bout 145-141. Christopher Almodover ringside scored the bout 146-141. The official judges had it 145-141/145-142/145-141. On the undercard HW - John Knifton (14-9) TKO5 Dick Egan (8-13) (Egan moves down to club with the loss) MW - Harris Martin (13-7-4) MD10 Billy McCarthy (13-7-2) LW - Sam Bolen (4-4-1) UD8 Young Joseph (1-3-2) (bolen fought pre-prime and Joseph as a beginner in this club fight) HW - Pat Kiely (8-12-1) DRAW Fred Robinson (4-12-4) (Robinson fought as a HW in this club fight) BW - Tommy Feltz (7-10) KO2 Austin Rice (1-15-1) (club fight) **note** started listing records of the undercards ... |

December 02, 1905
Jack Johnson (20-1) cruised to his 9th title defense with a KO5 over #11 Mike Schreck (12-11). Schreck came out strong winning the first round but that's where his night ended. Johnson controlled the 2nd, and then knocked Mike down in the 3rd, 4th and out in the 5th. On the undercard LHW - George Gardner (11-5-1) TKO 9 Fred Cooley (3-6-1) MW - Jim Hall (9-11-1) DRAW10 Dixie Kid (11-6-5) (Kid fought as a MW in this bout) HW - Paddy Ryan (7-1-2) UD8 Henry Higgans (4-13) (Ryan fought as Pre-prime in this club fight, moved up to main division after the fight) HW - Heriberto Rojas (1-3-1) DRAW6 Joe Godfrey (2-17-1) (Rojas fought as a beginner in this club fight) HW - Billy Wilson (10-10-1) KO1 Mike Sheehan (4-14-1) (Wilson evened his record and moves back up to the main division in this club fight) |

He pinned Creedon on the ropes in the 2nd and didn't let him out the rest of the fight. A New Featherweight Champ Crowned!!!
December 20th, 1905
#2 Harry Lyons (18-8) pulled off a stunning and decisive UD15 over champ Abe Attell (21-5-1) to win the LBA Featherweight Championship. Lyons won the first round and then Attell had a monster second, which started Lyons right eye swelling. In the past this is where Attell has taken over and worked the swollen eye into a huge decision. It was not to be on this night, however. Lyons came out strong in the 3rd and swelled up Attell's left eye in the 4th. Lyons went on to control the next several rounds and built up a huge lead that was to much for Attell to overcome. Attell battled back but it was too little too late. I scored the bout 145-140. Dan Cuoco at ringside had it 144-140. The official judges had it 144-141/146-139/144-141. On the undercard HW - Tommy Burns (10-3-1) KO4 Sam Langford (10-4-1)(Sam finishes his horrible year with a 0-3-1 record for 1905) HW - Frank Childs (13-10-2) KO9 Denver Ed Martin (10-9) WW - Jack Britton (4-1) MD6 Billy Gardner (2-11-1) (Britton fought as a beginner in this club bout, moves to pre-prime and up to the main division with the win) HW - Tony Ross (2-2) UD6 John McDermont (8-11-2) (Ross fought as a beginner in this club bout) HW - Denver Ed Smith (8-13-1) DRAW10 John Ferguson (9-13-1) (club fight) |

Herrera Enters Rankings At #3
December 24, 1905
Aurelio Herrera (8-2) scored a UD10 over FC Jimmy Briggs (3-7-1). The fight was never close with Briggs expending all his energy going for the KO in round 2. It was the only round he won. With Herrera's 10th fight he entered the rankings at #3 and now is officially eligble for a championship fight. Herrera had a very good year going 5-1 with his lone setback to Young Griffo (19-4-2). |
