The player they received for Fulmer was drafted in 2019, just up to AA this year mid-season, and doesn't look like he is adjusting well. My prediction is that he'll be teaching high school and coaching the JV squad somewhere in 18 months.

Very little to no damage done at the trade deadline so I am happy. I thought Avila was going to move Soto, Cisnero, Jimenez or maybe even someone like Skubal, Torkleson or Greene. Feels like we dodged a bullet.

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera will consider retirement after 2022 season: 'I don’t feel well right now'

I think Miggy retiring after this season is a good idea. Yes, it'd be cool to climb the all-time leader boards a bit higher, but his body cannot take a full season anymore and he takes up a roster spot that could be filled by someone healthy.

His career is amazing and he should be immensely proud of what he's done and I'm sure it's hard to walk away from something he loves doing, but its time to move on.

I have a hard time believing he'll retire after this season with him being paid another $32M in 2023. He's only owed $8M in 2024 and 2025 respectively, so if he's actually planning to retire before the contract runs out, I highly suspect he'll do it after next season (not this one).

No way Miggy retires. It was just too quiet for him lately as nobody was talking about him any longer.

A recent FanGraphs article talks about the next GM in Detroit and how AJ Hinch potentially makes the most sense. Pretty interesting, yet short, read: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/sunday-n...in-the-dugout/

I was coming on to link the same article. I'm not sure I like the idea at all. I haven't been head over heels with him as a manager so maybe that is factoring into my feelings here. It's obviously time for a change, I wonder if this is a bit too gimmicky for my tastes though.

A year too late in my opinion. The writing was on the wall going into the off-season last year and leading up to this season. The owners are ready to compete so they let Avila raise the opening day payroll to $135M ($55M more than 2021). All he has to show for it is another crappy contract (Baez) to go along with all the other garbage deals he has made:

It's not all negatives though, Avila made some quality draft picks in the early rounds. The Detroit farm system would be loaded if his front office could draft anyone decent after round 3.

I hope the Ilitch family takes their time with replacing him and sets forth a good roadmap for where the say the team in the future.

The all time series between Detroit and Cleveland is now tied at 1142-1142. An interesting stat. Also, that's a lot of games.

And here's me, thinking my Raccoons' 656-651 tally against the Canadiens (angrily shakes fist) meant anything.

Fine! I will honor Tigers-Cleveland contest #2,285 with my graceful attention...!

After Manning’s strong 7, Tigers starters now lead the American League and rank third in MLB with a 3.09 ERA since July 21.

EDIT: I will say this again. Pitching has not been the Tigers' problem this year. Yes, injuries to pitchers has been. But the overall product has not been that bad.

I will say that pitching is not their biggest problem this year, but it is still very much a problem. Combined, they are below average in ERA+ and FIPs is average. The only SP that's above average in either is Tarik Skubal. ERA is a useless stat without a lot of context.

Again, pitching is not their biggest problem, but it's not exactly a bright spot either.

Hitting Baez 2nd or 3rd all season with a .267 OBP isn't helping.

They finally gave Manning some run support. There's that.

They didn't blow a 9-run lead last night. Count the blessing where they lay.

Tigers shut out for the 18th time this year, they said at the end there. Sounds about right, I probably saw all of them.

The Cardinals are second in MLB with 666 runs, but have been shut out 13 times. You don't know which team will show up...either a shut out, or 5.4 runs a game.
