Jered's 17 Ks ties the LA record set earlier this week by Pensacola's Ripper Collins, but falls one shy of the AtHoL record of 18, set in April of this year by Frank Tanana of the Knickerbockers.

BTW Mize knocked out his 31st homer in this game (Sammy Sosa belted 2).

I'll give a full update on the AAA Third Base league later in the season. Our Cairo Egyptians are doing well, trailing the red-hot Troy Trojans in the Greenlee Group by 3.5 games with a sturdy 47-25 record, the second-best overall.

The 1949 AAA All-Star teams have just been announced and we've got a few players in there which is good to see. Here are the full squads:

A holy trinity of longballs for Senor Montero, who now has more this year so far (17) than in his first two complete seasons combined (14). 2009 settings are certainly boosting HR numbers in the league for 1949.

His St. Louis Terriers look right in the mix this season and Jim Rice is having an outstanding rookie year. He and Nashville's Mike Caldwell are duelling it out for the LA RoY and Jim Ed will get some MVP votes as well if he can continue in this vein. He is currently slashing 334/376/617 with 23 homers and 55 ribbies, along with a healthy 4.2 WAR.
