Holy Krapp
Yes Gene Krapp is having his breakout season for the Tulsa Rattlers as he pitched a no-hitter today on the road against the Albuquerque Blackbirds. Krapp fanned 12 batters in the game and improved to 10-2 on the season as the Rattlers continue to make strides in the NL Central

Tate - Half Way
Today Jerry Metzger of Long Island Newsday is meeting with Tate Redinger in Des Moines before the first game of their series with the Portland Lions. Tate has not had a great first half, and this is his first interview with Long Island local press.
Jerry: So Tate, are you used to the life in the small town. Tate: It really is not that much different than Montauk, I just don't have an ocean to go to. I am home so little I really don't have a feel for Des Moines. We go back to Des Moines to play games and I live in a hotel. Jerry: Guess that is the baseball life. Do you miss home? Tate: Sometimes I do. Where I grew up is tranquil and just a calm place, mainly miss the idea of being at one place for a week at a time. Jerry: Looking at your numbers, you are hitting under .200 so far, what would you say that is attributed to. Tate: It is hard to say other than I don't really have a flow going. Not sure when I am going to play and every game your team plays and you aren't in the lineup is a confidence killer. I remain confident that my opportunity will come and I will be able to succeed. Jerry: Success seems to have averted the Des Moines Jaguars, is there a turnaround in place. Tate: It is going to be tough since we are a 2nd wave expansion team. It is hard to get the pitching you need to compete against the established teams. Our pitchers are guys that probably should have been in the minors longer, but necessity forced them here. Jerry: What do you expect the rest of the way Tate: I expect that we will get hot at some point we have some good bats in our lineup and maybe we will see some of the farm guys come up and do well. Jerry: Farms guy, I would think you are saying Arlie Latham, but he doesn't pitch Tate: Well Latham is the real deal just that he is young. We have some pitchers who are showing some progress in the minors. Jerry: Do you think you will be getting more at bats. Tate: I hope so, they sent Chick Shorten down as he was struggling and brought Mike Adams up who had some success in 2020 at some point, I need constant reps Jerry: With expansion to 96 teams next year and the NL getting the DH, does that give you hope Tate: It can't hurt, eventually I will end up somewhere where I can play every day. Not that I dislike playing here, but this is a 20-61 team that has offense, every day is humiliation at the ball park Jerry: So have you met any lucky ladies along the way Tate: Personally I am in a rut and I don't feel good about myself. When you are hitting under .200 and you banked your future on baseball, you start to questions your decisions Jerry: Do you have any good road stories Tate: The places do blend into each other for sure, but remember Fresno well, we won a game in 11 innings and we hit the town and ended up at a fan's house party until the late hours. It was an Almost Famous moment Jerry: Did anyone dive into a pool from the 2nd story of the house Tate: No, it was a subdued party thought they were going to bring out a Risk game. But still it was fun to be recognized as professional ball players Jerry: Do you not get recognized at all Tate: In Des Moines, the fan following is light, and I don't play much I never get stopped in the stores or out and about, it is probably because there are over 1600 players in the majors these days, the value of being a ball player has changed a lot. Jerry: I can see that. What do you want to do when you get back to Montauk Tate: Truthfully I want to sleep and sleep a lot. I just want to eat a good lobster and just be around familiar surroundings. I will be in Iowa for 3 games then we fly to Charlotte then I am back in Iowa. Travel is brutal and time between games seems longer when you are on the road Jerry: This wraps up our interview, Montauk's Tate Redinger, enjoy the second half. |
