NEW YORK HIGHLANDERS VS BOSTON RED SOX
A pre-rivalry Gauntlet series as they haven't even been named the Yankees yet. The Red Sox record-wise was the better Boston team and the Rustlers had pushed New York to the limit. PHILADELPHIA ATHLETICS VS CINCINNATI REDS
The Athletics got an odd draw next as the Reds were 13 games below .500 but got the 4 seed in The Gauntlet. Someone forgot to tell the Reds they weren't supposed to be this high as they forced extra innings before the Athletics edged them 12-11 in 12 innings. Philadelphia looked to have taken control early when scoring 6 runs in the top of the 3rd to take a 7-3 lead but Cincinnati kept coming back. PHILADELPHIA ATHLETICS VS PITTSBURGH PIRATES
We are down to three 1911 teams remaining which means the winner of this series will face the New York Giants to see who will claim the 1911 Gauntlet Championship and go on to face the 1909 Cleveland Naps. The series began in Pittsburgh with the Athletics coming out on top in Game 1 9-3. Philadelphia went up 3-1 and then scored 3 more in the top of the 5th to make it 6-1. It was 6-3 when Stuffy McInnis hit a solo home run in the top of the 7th to make it 7-3. The Athletics had 12 hits in the game while the Pirates committed 3 errors. Jack Coombs allowed just 1 earned run to get the win. McInnis and Home Run Baker each went 3-for-5. Max Carey went 3-for-4 for Pittsburgh. Game 2 was a sloppy, error-filled affair. The Pirates committed 7 errors while the Athletics had 4. In the end, though, Philadelphia crushed Pittsburgh 12-3 to go up 2-0 in the series. The Athletics began in the top of the 2nd with 3 runs, including a 2-run homer by Bris Lord to build a 5-1 lead. Then, in the top of the 5th, with the score 5-3, Philadelphia added 5 more runs to make it 10-3 and put the game out of reach. The Athletics piled up 17 hits in the game. Eddie Plank allowed just 2 earned runs in 8 innings to get the win. Lord finished the game 3-for-6 with 3 RBI and scored 4 times. Stuffy McInnis went 4-for-6 and scored 4 times. Eddie Collins Sr went 4-for-6 with 3 RBI. This put the Pirates in a serious dilemma as the series moved to Philadelphia. In 8 home games in this Gantlet, the Athletics were 7-1. And they had outscored the Pirates 22-6 in the two games played in Pittsburgh. And sure enough, the Athletics got 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd to take a 3-2 lead. But, the Pirates were able to regain the lead and were up 4-3 when Philadelphia scored 4 in the bottom of the 6th to go up 7-4. And that was the final score as the Athletics went up 3-0 in the series. Pittsburgh actually out-hit Philadelphia 11-10. Jack Coombs not only got the win, he drove in 3 runs himself. Rube Oldring went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored twice. For the Pirates, Honus Wagner went 3-for-4 and Chief Wilson was 3-for-5. In Game 4, the Athletics led throughout, using a 3-run 2nd to build a 4-0 lead. Pittsburgh's lone broght spot happened in the top of the 9th when Chief Wilson hit a 2-run blast. But it was not near enough as Philadelphia completed the sweep with a 6-3 win. The Athletics got 10 hits and the Pirates made 4 errors. Eddie Plank allowed just 2 earned runs to get the win. Lefty Leifeld allowed just 2 earned runs in 7 innings but got the loss. Ira Thomas went 3-for-4. Stuffy McInnis was named Series MVP.

PHILADELPHIA ATHLETICS VS NEW YORK GIANTS
The 1911 World Series rematch! This time the winner will be the 1911 Gauntlet Champions and will go face the 1909 Gauntlet Champions, the Cleveland Naps. Christy Mathewson and Jack Coombs put on quite a show in Game 1. Coombs allowed just 1 earned run on 5 hits but Mathewson did not allow an earned run at all as the Giants squeaked by the Athletics 2-1. It took 12 innings, but the Athletics evened the series with a 3-2 win in Game 2. Philadelphia had 10 hits in the game. The pitchers dominated again as Eddie Plank went 10.1 innings and Rube Marquard allowed just 2 runs in 9 innings with neither pitcher getting a decision. Home Run Baker lived up to his name with a solo shot in the top of the 3rd. He ended up driving in all 3 of the Athletics' runs. The series then moved to Philadelphia where the Athletics are now 9-1 during Gauntlet play. Game 3 lasted even longer than Game 2 did. The Giants had a 4-2 lead but Philadelphia scored 3 in the bottom of the 7th to take a 5-4 lead. The Giants came back to tie it and then scored 5 runs in the 14th inning, including a 2-run homer by Larry Doyle, to do the near impossible and win in Philadelphia by the score of 11-6 and take a 2-1 lead in the series. New York out-hit Philadelphia 21-16 and win despite committing 7 errors. Art Fletcher went 4-for-7 with 4 RBI. Fred Merkle went 3-for-5, Fred Snodgrass went 3-for-6, Chief Myers went 3-for-7 and Larry Doyle had 3 RBI. For the Athletics, Danny Murphy went 3-for-6 and Eddie Collins Sr had 3 RBI. The Athletics evened the series up again as they held of the Giants in Game 4 for a 5-4 win. Philadelphia was up 5-0 but the Giants put 4 on the board in the top of the 9th to put a huge scare into the home crowd of 39,634. The Athletics had 10 hits in the game but also made 5 errors. The Giants committed 3 errors themselves. Eddie Plank did not allow an earned run as he got the win. New York's Larry Doyle went 3-for-4. Chief Bender and Hooks Wiltse turned Game 5 into a pitching duel as each guy allowed just 5 hits. Bender allowed 1 run while Wiltse allowed 2 and the Athletics took Game 5 2-1 to take a 3-2 series lead. Philadelphia ran their incredible Gauntlet home record to 11-2. The series then went back to New York for Game 6. Game 6 was tied at 2 after 5 innings, thanks to a solo home run by Fred Merckle in the bottom of the 5th. But, then, the Athletics scored 4 runs in the top of the 6th and went on to win 6-4 to clinch the 1911 Gauntlet! The Giants actually out-hit the Athletics 13-11 but it wasn't enough. Eddie Collins Sr went 3-for-5. Bris Lord was named Series MVP.

1901 CLEVELAND NAPS VS 1911 PHILADELPHIA ATHLETICS
Two teams who won their respective Gauntlets starting off as the 5 seed. Yet that is all these two teams have in common. The Athletics were the only team in 1911 to win 100 games and went on to win the World Series. The Naps, on the other hand, finished 11 games below .500 in 1909 but not only did they win their Gauntlet, they beat the 1906 and 1910 Gauntlet Champions as well. They have made a living beating 100 win teams in the Gantlet. The series began in Philadelphia where the Athletics are 11-2 in Gauntlet play. The Naps looked to cause problems again for a good team in Game 1 as they scored 5 in the top of the 3rd to take a 7-3 lead. But then the Athletics came back and tied the game with a 3-run 7th that included a 2-run home run by Eddie Collins Sr. Game 1 then went into extra innings where Jack Lapp hit a walk-off RBI double in the 11th inning to give the Athletics a 9-8 win. Philadelphia out-hit Cleveland 20-13 but also committed 3 errors. Stuffy McInnis went 4-for-5 and Jack Barry, Home Run Baker and Danny Murphy each went 3-for-6. 9 different Athletics had a hit in the game. For Cleveland, Joe Birmingham went 4-for-6 with 4 RBI, Bris Lord went 3-for-6 and scored 3 times and Nap Lajoie wenr 3-for-4. Game 2 also went into extra innings. Cleveland scored 3 runs in the top of the 11th to beat Philadelphia 8-5 and even the series. The Naps out-hit the Athletics 14-10 and Philadelphia also committed 3 errors in the game. Cy Young only allowed 2 earned runs in 8.2 innings but got a no decision. Bill Hinchman went 3-for-5 and George Stovall went 3-for-6. Stuffy McInnis went 3-for-6 for Philadelphia. The series moved to Cleveland for Game 3. And wouldn't you know it. Game 3 also went into extra innings. This time it was the Athletics scoring 4 runs in the top of the 10th to come out on top 8-4. Philadelphia had taken an early 4-2 lead with 3 runs in the top of the 3rd but, in the bottom of the 3rd, Cleveland's Bris Lord tied the game with a 2-run homer. Ted Easterly had given Cleveland a 2-0 lead with a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 1st. Jack Coombs allowed just 2 earned runs in 9 innings to get the win. The Athletics had 14 hits in the game while the Naps made 5 errors. Stuffy McInnis went 3-for-6. Ted Easterly went 3-for-4 for Cleveland. Game 4 did not go extras but it was still a nailbiter as Philadelphia slipped past Cleveland 3-2. Eddie Plank allowed just 1 earned run on 5 hits to get the win. Cy Young also allowed just 1 earned run but 4 Nap errors led to him getting the loss. With the Athletics up 3-1 in the series, it was looking like the unbelievable run of the 1909 Naps was coming to an end. But if it did come to an end, it would have to end in Philadelphia as the Naps took Game 5 3-2. Addie Joss got the win. Nap Lajoie went 3-for-4 including a solo home run in the bottom of the 1st. So, through 5 games, 3 had gone extra innings and the other 2 had been decided by 1 run. But the series was headed back to Philadelphia and it has already been chronicled how good the Athletics had been at home during the Gauntlet. To win this series, Cleveland would have had to beat the Athletics three times in Philadelphia. Nobody else had even beaten the 1911 Athletics twice in Philadelphia during a series. The Athletics made sure that wasn't going to happen as they scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 4th to take a 5-1 lead and went on to win 6-2. Each team had 12 hits in the game. Jack Coombs got the win. Jack Lapp went 3-for-4. For Cleveland, Ted Easterly went 4-for-4 and Neal Ball went 4-for-5. Stuffy McInnis was named Series MVP.

BROOKLYN DODGERS VS WASHINGTON SENATORS
Wow! A 91 win Washington team starts as a 15 seed in the Gauntlet! The Dodgers did belong this low as they lost 95 games in 1912. In Game 1, Walter Johnson pitched a 5-hit shutout and the Senators took an easy 6-0 win. A 4-run 4th put Washington up 4-0 and that's all Johnson needed. The Dodgers committed 3 errors in the game. Ray Morgan hit a walk-off RBI single in the 10th inning of Game 2 to give the Senators a 4-3 win. Brooklyn had 10 hits but also committed 3 errors. Bob Groom pitched 9 innings but got a no decision. Pat Ragan allowed just 2 earned runs in 9.1 innings but got the loss. Brooklyn's Red Smith went 3-for-5. The series moved to Brooklyn for Game 3 and the Dodgers hung in with the Senators until the 8th when Washington put 4 on the board to take a 6-1 lead. And that would be the final score as Washington went up 3-0 in the series. Walter Johnson got the win. Game 4 saw St Louis take an early lead again but this Washington exploded with 6 runs in the bottom of the 2nd to go up 6-1. Nap Rucker allowed just 2 earned runs in 8.1 innings but got the loss as the Dodgers committed 4 errors. Rip Williams went 3-for-5. Brooklyn's Hub Northen went 3-for-4. The Senators finished off Brooklyn 5-2 in Game 4 to complete the sweep. Bob Groom got the win. Chick Gandl went 3-for-4. Jake Daubert went 3-for-5 for the Dodgers. Walter Johnson was named Series MVP.

WASHINGTON SENATORS VS ST LOUIS BROWNS
This looked like another mismatch as the Browns lost 101 games in 1912. Game 1 was controlled by Walter Johnson and George Baumgardner and was tied 1-1 after 9. Bobby Wallace hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 12th to give St Louis a 3-2 win. Baumgardner pitched all 12 innings to get the win. Walter Johnson pitched 8 innings and allowed no earned runs and just 2 hits but go a no decision. St Louis jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in Game 2 and the Senators appeared to be headed to an 0-2 series deficit but Washington came back to win 7-6 and even the series 1-1. The Senators had 13 hits in the game. Rip Williams went 3-for-5 for Washington and Frank LaPorte went 3-for-5 for St Louis. The series moved to Washington for Game 3 for a rematch between Baumgardner and Walter Johnson. St Louis led 2-1 until the bottom of the 5th when the Senators scored 3 runs to take a 4-2 lead. Johnson was able to hang onto the lead as the Senators prevailed 4-3 to take a 2-1 lead in the series. Johnson allowed just 1 earned run on 5 hits to get the win as Baumgardner also allowed just 1 earned run but got the loss. The Senators won despite committing 3 errors. Jim Stephens had 3 RBI for St Louis. Each team scored 3 in the 8th but Washington was too far ahead and the Senators took it 10-5 to go up 3-1. Washington had 10 hits and each team made 3 errors. Bob Groom allowed just 2 earned runs in 8 innings to get the win. Frank LaPorte went 3-for-4 and Danny Moeller had 3 RBI. For St Louis, George Stovall went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI while Pete Compton had a solo home run in the top of the 9th. So, after winning Game 1, the Browns found themselves facing elimination in Game 5. Still, a win would send the series back to St Louis. The Browns gave it their best shot but fell to Washington 4-3. The Senators piled up 14 hits in the game. Tom Hughes got the win. Rip Williams and Clyde Milan each went 3-for-4. For St Louis, Frank LaPorte also went 3-for-4, including a 2-run home run in the top of the 6th that was the last runs scored of the series. Washington's Frank LaPorte, however, was named Series MVP.

WASHINGTON SENATORS VS CHICAGO WHITE SOX
The White Sox may have also deserved a higher seed as they did finish the 1912 season 2 games above .500. The Senators had rolled through their first two series, going 8-1 overall and 5-0 at home. The White Sox got the bats going in the bottom of the 2nd of Game 1, putting up 4 runs to take a 4-1 lead thanks to a grand slam home run by Buck Weaver. That big shot carried the White Sox to a 6-3 win. Chicago had 10 hits in the game. Ed Walsh allowed just 2 earned runs to get the win. Buck Weaver ended the game with 5 RBI. In Game 2, the Senators were the team with the 4-run inning, as they put that spot up in the top of the 3rd to take a 6-1 lead. The Senators went on to tie the series with a 7-3 win. Chicago lost despite out-hitting Washington 12-11. Frank LaPorte went 4-for-5 for the Senators while Shano Collins was 3-for-4 for the White Sox. The series moved to Washington for Games 3, 4 and 5 where the Senators had yet to lose in this Gauntlet. Walter Johnson and Ed Walsh dueled in this one. Walsh allowed just 1 earned run on 5 hits but Johnson did not allow an earned run and he got the win as the Senators eked out a 2-1 victory. Chicago's Shano Collins again went 3-for-4. The Senators continued to be unbeatable at home, taking Game 4 4-2. Washington had 11 hits in the game. Bob Groom did not allow an earned run as he got the win. Frank LaPorte went 3-for-4 and scored 3 times. Danny Moeller hit a solo home run in the bottom of the 1st. Game 5 was an epic pitching clash between Eddie Cicotte and Tom Hughes. The first run of the game was not scored until the bottom of the 8th inning. And it was the only run of the game as Hughes and the Senators shut out the White Sox 1-0 to end the series. Clyde Milan went 3-for-4 as the Senators remain unbeaten at home in the Gauntlet. Tom Hughes was named Series MVP.

WASHINGTON SENATORS VS ST LOUIS CARDINALS
The Cardinals were a more suitable lower seed, having finished 63-90 in 1912. Chick Gandil got the Senators on the board first with a solo home run in the top of the 2nd. From there, though, the pitchers took over as Slim Sallee only allowed 2 earned runs in 7 innings for the Cardinals. But Walter Johnson was even better, pitching 6 shutout innings and St Louis committed 3 errors in the game as Washington took Game 1 4-2. Washington had little trouble with Game 2. Leading 2-0, the Senators added 3 more in the top of the 4th to go up 5-0. While the Cardinals were committing 3 more errors, Bob Groom was holding them to just 4 hits as Washington had an easy 6-1 win. With the Senators up 2-0, the series moved to Washington where the Senators were already 8-0 in the 1912 Gauntlet. The Cardinals, however, looked to finally pin a home loss on the Senators and led 2-0 until Washington scored 3 in the bottom of the 5th to grab a 3-2 lead. St Louis then tied it back up and the game went into extra innings. Danny Moeller then kept the Senators unbeaten at home with a walk-off RBI single in the 11th to make the final score 4-3. Washington tallied 11 hits as a team but also made 4 errors. Walter Johnson pitched all 11 innings, allowing just 1 earned run to get the win. Moeller finished the game with 3 RBI. Lee Magee went 3-for-5 for St Louis. St Louis scored first in Game 4 but Frank LaPorte his a solo home run to tie the game 1-1 in the bottom of the 3rd inning. The Cardinals again tried to end the Senators unbeaten streak at home but LaPorte came through again in the 9th, breaking a 2-2 tie with a walk-off RBI single to give the Senators the sweep with a 3-2 win. Bob Groom allowed just 1 earned run to get the win. LaPorte went 3-for-5. Walter Johnson was named Series MVP.

Two teams that won 91 games each in 1912 meet in this series. The Senators have run their 1912 Gauntlet record now to 16-2. In Game 1, the Cubs looked to end Washington's winning ways and led 1-0 after 5. But, in the top of the 6th, the Senators scored 4 runs to take the lead. 10 Senators hits combined with 4 Cubs errors spelled the 9th straight for Washington as 4-2 was the final. Walter Johnson allowed just 1 earned run on 4 hits to take the victory. Larry Cheney also allowed just 1 earned run but got the loss. Jimmy Lavender made sure the Senators streak did not reach 10 wins as he shut out Washington on 3 hits. Bob Groom was almost as good, allowing just 1 run on 3 hits but Chicago came out on top 1-0. Lavender was so good that even 3 Cub errors could not help Washington score. With the series tied 1-1, the teams went to Washington where the Senators had won 10 in a row. And the unthinkable happened! Chicago won! 4-1 was the final score. Larry Cheney went the distance without allowing an earned run. Walter Johnson allowed just 1 earned run over 8 innings but got a rare loss. Chick Gandil went 3-for-4 for Washington. Had the magic left the Senators at home? Not in Game 4 it didn't. Neither the Cubs nor the rain could prevent the Senators from bouncing back to win 5-1 to even the series at 2-2. Bob Groom went 7 innings, allowing 5 hits to get the win. Meanwhile, the Cubs were plagued by 6 errors. The two offenses finally came alive in Game 5. 27 hits in all. 14 for the Senators. 13 for the Cubs. But the biggest hit came in the top of the 8th. With the Cubs trailing 6-5, Jimmy Sheckard hit a 2-run home run to give the Cubs a 7-6 lead. Jimmy Archer added a solo shot in the top of the 9th and the Cubs beat the Senators for the second time in Washington, this time by the score of 8-7. The Cubs overcame 3 errors as Sheckard ended up with 3 RBI. Archer went 3-for-5 and Johnny Evers went 4-for-5. Frank LaPorte went 5-for-5 in a losing effort. The series then returned to Chicago with the Cubs up 3-2 and only needing to win either home game to take the series. The Senators did not appear to be ready to go down in Game 6. Despite a solo home run by Jimmy Archer in the bottom of the 3rd, Washington built a 5-1 lead. But then, in the bottom of the 5th, the Cubs put 3 runs on the board to make it 5-4. They would get no closer, however, and the Senators forced a Game 7 with a 7-4 win. This was the first Game 6 of the 1912 Gauntlet and would lead to, of course, the first Game 7 as well. The Senators piled up 12 hits in the game. Walter Johnson got the win. The series proved to have no home field advantage for either team as Washington went on to take Game 7 5-2, giving the road teams 5 wins in the seven game series. Danny Moeller hit a solo home run to lead off the top of the 6th inning to break a 1-1 tie and give the Senators the lead for good. The Senators had 11 hits in the game. Bob Groom allowed just 1 earned run to get the win. Moeller went 4-for-5 with 3 RBI and was named Series MVP.

WASHINGTON SENATORS VS CINCINNATI REDS
The Reds finished 1912 3 games below .500 and were the next highest seed in the Gauntlet. But the Reds were not about to play dead as Game 1 went into extra innings tied 2-2. But Danny Moeller hit a 2-run double in the top of the 13th inning and the Senators took Game 1 4-2. Walter Johnson allowed just 1 earned run in 11.1 innings but go a no decision. Cincinnati out-hit Washington 11-10 as Tex McDonald went 4-for-5 and Mike Mitchell went 3-for-6 for the Reds. 8 different Senators had at least 1 hit. The Senators then took Game 2 4-3. Bob Groom allowed just 2 earned runs to get the win. Frank LaPorte went 3-for-4. The series then moved to Washington with the Senators up 2-0. But the Senators were no longer unbeatable at home and they dropped Game 3 3-1. George Suggs pitched 8 innings to get the win. Walter Johnson allowed just 1 earned run on 5 hits in 7.2 innings but got the loss. Game 4 started off bad for the Senators as well as they were down early 3-0 but they came back to take a 5-4 walk-off win when Howie Shanks scored from 3rd on a wild pitch. Washington's 5-4 victory was the first win by a home team in this series and put the Senators up 3-1. The Reds out-hit Washington 13-12. Frank LaPorte went 3-for-3 as 8 different Senators got at least 1 hit. 8 different Reds got a hit as well. A wild 7th inning proved to be the key to Game 5. Through 6, Washington held a 2-1 lead. Then, the Reds scored 4 in the top of the 7th to take a 5-2 lead. However, before the home crowd had time to worry, the Senators answered with 10 in the bottom of the 7th to go on top 12-5. And that would be the final score. 3 Reds errors led to 7 unearned runs. Clyde Milan and Ray Morgan each had 3 RBI as 10 different Senators scored at least 1 run. Frank LaPorte was named Series MVP.

WASHINGTON SENATORS VS BOSTON BRAVES
The next step for Washington in The Gauntlet looked much less difficult as the 1912 Braves lost 101 games. Someone forgot to tell Hub Perdue that the Braves were supposed to lose. Perdue shut out Washington for 8 innings as Boston built a 4-0 lead. The Senators, however, came back with a 3-run 9th but it was one run too little as Boston took Game 1 4-3. The Braves had 10 hits in the game with Vin Campbell collecting 3 RBI. Washington's Danny Moeller went 3-for-4. The Senators looked to bounce back in Game 2 and led 1-0 until an error-filled bottom of the 6th led to 5 Boston runs. Both teams were plagued with errors as Washington committed 5 errors and the Braves made 3. But Boston made the most of their opportunities as they followed up the big 6th inning with 3 in the 7th and 4 in the 8th and just killed the Senators 12-1. Boston out-hit Washington 11-4. Otto Hess got the win. Bob Groom allowed just 1 earned run over 6.2 innings but got the loss. Art Devlin went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI, John Titus also went 3-for-5 and Johnny Kling scored 3 times. With the Braves up 2-0, the series moved to Washington for Game 3. The Braves refused to be intimidated by the home record the Senators had built in The Gauntlet, scoring 3 runs in the top of the 2nd to take a 3-0 lead. Washington, however, came back with 4 in the bottom of the 4th to take a 4-3 lead. Boston came back to tie and then, in the top of the 9th, the Braves took a 5-4 lead on a pinch-hit solo home run by Ben Houser. That would prove to be the game winner as 5-4 was the final score and the Braves had a 3-0 lead in the series. Hub Perdue allowed just 2 earned runs in 8 innings to get the win. Walter Johnson also allowed just 2 earned runs but got the loss. The Senators had 11 hits in defeat. George Jackson had 3 RBI for the Braves. For the Senators, George McBride went 3-for-3. Game 4 set up the most unexpected situation as the Senators were trying to avoid being swept! So, the Senators right away began to commit errors and Boston got 3 in the top of the 2nd to take a 3-0 lead. The 5 errors would prove too much to overcome for the Senators as Otto Hess held Washington to 3 hits and Boston finished the sweep with a 4-1 win in Game 4. Bob Groom allowed just 1 earned run but got the loss. Vin Campbell went 4-for-5 and Bill Sweeney went 3-for-5. Otto Hess was named Series MVP.

BOSTON BRAVES VS DETROIT TIGERS
Boston advanced to face the Tigers who, in 1912, finished 15 games below .500. Even still, the Tigers had 16 wins more than the Braves. That did matter to the Braves as they took advantage of Tiger errors much like they did against Washington. 4 runs in the top of the 2nd helped Boston build a quick 5-0 lead. After that, Game 1 was never in question as Boston won pretty easily 8-1. The Braves tallied 14 hits while the Tigers committed 4 errors. Hub Perdue got the win. Johnny Kling went 4-for-6 and Al Bridwell went 3-for-5. Detroit's Oscar Stanage went 3-for-4. Boston was poised to go up 2-0 in Detroit as the Braves held a 4-2 lead in Game 2. But the Tigers came back with 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th to take their first lead of the series at 5-4. Then the Braves scored 6 in the top of the 9th to take a 10-5 win. Errors again doomed the Tigers as Detroit committed 5 in the game. The Braves whacked out 15 hits. Detroit's George Mullin allowed just 2 earned runs in 7 innings but got a no decision. Art Devlin went 3-for-4 and scored 3 times. Ed McDonald also went 3-for-4 and John Titus went 3-for-6. 7 different Braves had an RBI and 9 different Braves got a base hit. The series then moved to Boston with the Braves up 2-0. The Tigers got a 2-1 lead but again Boston came up with a big inning. 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th gave the Braves a 4-2 lead and Boston held on to win 7-5. The Braves committed 3 errors but also out-hit the Tigers 17-14. Bill Sweeney went 4-for-5 with 3 RBI, Art Devlin went 3-for-4 and Johnny Kling went 3-for-5. 8 different Braves got at least 1 hit. 7 different Tigers got a hit with Ty Cobb going 4-for-5 and Oscar Stanage going 3-for-5. In danger of being swept, the Tigers exploded in the top of the 9th of Game 4 for 6 runs to turn a 4-3 lead into a 10-3 win. Detroit out-hit Boston 15-10 in Game 4. George Moriarty went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI as 9 different Tigers got a hit, 8 different Tigers scored a run and 7 different Tigers got an RBI. Jim Delahanty went 2-for-2 and walked 3 times. Vin Campbell went 3-for-4 for Boston. This ended a 7 game win streak for the Braves. Game 5 was a tied game through 6 innings. George Jackson changed all that in the bottom of the 7th with a 3-run blast that gave Boston a 5-2 lead. The Braves added 4 more in the bottom of the 8th for a convincing 9-2 win to end the series. Boston out-hit Detroit 10-5 and the Tigers committed 3 errors. Lefty Tyler did not allow an earned run as he got the win. Art Devlin scored 3 runs as 7 different Braves had a hit. Art Devlin was named Series MVP.

BOSTON BRAVES VS PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES
The Phillies finished 6 games below .500 in 1912 but still had 21 more wins than the Braves. But that had meant nothing so far in this Gauntlet. Game 1 saw the Braves lose on the road for the first time in the Gauntlet as Sherry Magee hit a walk-off RBI double to lift Philadelphia to a 3-2 win. The Phillies had 12 total hits in the game. Pete Alexander got the win. Hub Perdue allowed just 2 earned runs but got the loss. Magee went 3-for-5 as 7 different Phillies got at least 1 hit. Bill Sweeney went 4-for-4 for Boston. The Phillies took Game 2 thanks to a 4-run 3rd that gave them a 5-2 lead. Philadelphia went on to win 9-3. The Phillies had 13 hits while the Braves made 3 errors. Eppa Rixey struck out 9 to get the win. Mickey Doolan went 3-for-5 as 8 different Phillies got at least 1 hit and 7 different Phillies scored at least 1 run. It was too much for Boston to overcome as the Phillies won 4-2 to take a 3-0 lead in the series. Pete Alexander allowed just 1 earned run to get the win. Hans Lobert had a 2-run homer in the third. 7 different Braves got a hit in the loss. The Phillies made sure they finished off the Braves as they took Game 4 5-2. Philadelphia had 11 hits as 8 different batters got at least 1. John Titus had a solo home run in the top of the 2nd. Eppa Rixey got the win. Pete Alexander was named Series MVP.

The Highlanders had 1-2 losses in 1912 yet had the 6th seed in The Gauntlet. The series favored the Phillies on paper and Philadelphia lived up to the expectation in Game 1. Pete Alexander missed a shutout by 1 inning as he held the Highlanders to 5 hits in Philadelphia's 6-1 win. New York committed 4 errors in the game. Sherry Magee went 3-for-5. The Highlanders did much better in Game 2 as they actually won 4-3 when Happy Finneran walked Jeff Sweeney with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th. Sweeney went 4-for-4. George McConnell allowed just 5 hits as he got the win. Eppa Rixey allowed just 2 earned runs in 7.2 innings but got a no decision. The series shifted to Philadelphia tied 1-1. PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES VS CLEVELAND NAPS
A guarantee that a team with a losing record would be in the Top 5 as the Naps finished 1912 3 games below .500. Pete Alexander was absolutely dominant in Game 1. He shut out the Naps on 4 hits to lead the Phillies to a 5-0 win. Philadelphia got 11 hits as a team. 8 different Phillies got at least 1 hit. The Phillies looked to make sure that there was no Game 2 letdown as they scored 3 in the top of the 1st. Errors helped the Naps get back in the game. Trailing 6-3, Cleveland came back with 6 runs in the bottom of the 7th to take a 9-6 lead and that would be the final score as the Phillies 5 errors would cost them. Cleveland also had 3 errors. The Phillies had 14 hits in the game. Shoeless Joe Jackson went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI. 7 different Naps scored at least 1 run with Art Griggs scoring 3. For the Phillies, Hans Lobert went 3-for-5 as 8 different batters got a hit. With the series 1-1, the scene shifted to the City of Brotherly Love for Game 3. This time, it was Cleveland who paid for their errors as the Phillies broke a 1-1 tie, scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the 8th to win 6-2. Philadelphia had 10 hits while Cleveland committed 4 errors. Pete Alexander did not allow an earned run in 8 innings to get the win. Vean Gregg allowed just 1 earned run in 7 innings but got the loss. 7 different Phillies got at least 1 hit while 8 different Naps got a base hit. In Game 4, it was Cleveland who broke a 1-1 tie with a big inning, scoring 3 in the top of the 6th to take a 4-1 lead. It appeared to be over but then the Phillies scored 3 in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game 4-4 and send it to extra innings. Taking advantage of errors, the Naps scored 3 times in the top of the 11th and came out on top 7-5. Cleveland out-hit Philadelphia 14-12. The Phillies committed 6 errors. George Kahler allowed just 1 earned run in 7.1 innings but got a no decision. Nap Lajoie went 4-for-6 as 8 different Cleveland batters got at least 1 hit. 7 different Naps scored a run. For Philadelphia, Hans Lobert went 4-for-5 with 3 RBI. With the series 2-2. a guaranteed return to Cleveland had been established. But first, Game 5 in Philadelphia. Having already taken back home field advantage, the Naps jumped out to a 4-0 lead with 4 runs in the top of the 2md inning. Fred Luderus hit a solo home run in the bottom of the 2nd to make it 4-1. In the bottom of the 5th, the Phillies got a 3-spot and tied the game 4-4. But, in the top of the 9th, pinch-hitter Jack Graney hit an RBI single to break the tie and the Naps prevailed 6-4 to take a 3-2 series lead. CLEVELAND NAPS VS BOSTON RED SOX
The 4th-seeded Red Sox won the World Series in 1912. Smoky Joe Wood got the win in Game 1 as the Naps committed 3 errors and the Red Sox got 11 hits. It all added up to a 6-2 win for Boston. Duffy Lewis got 3 RBI as 8 different Boston batters got at least 1 hit. Shoeless Joe Jackson went 3-for-4 for Cleveland. The Red Sox then took Game 2 4-2 Buck O'Brien got the win. George Kahler allowed just 2 earned runs but got the loss. The series then moved to Cleveland for Game 3 with Boston up 2-0. Changing locations did no godd for the Naps in Game 3. Boston took a 2-0 lead and then added 4 more in the top of the 4th to make it 6-0. 3 more in the top of the 7th stretched the lead to 9-2. And that was the final score. Smoky Joe Wood allowed just 1 earned run to get the win. Duffy Lewis went 3-for-5 and scored 3 times as the Red Sox had 10 hits as a team. Stan Yerkes had 3 RBI. Trying to avoid the sweep, the Naps scored 3 in the bottom of the 1st to take a 3-0 lead in Game 4. I stayed that way until the top of the 8th when Duffy Lewis hit a bases-loaded double to bring all the runners home and tie the game 3-3. But Ivy Olson kept Cleveland alive with a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 9th as the Naps took Game 4 4-3. George Kahler got the win, allowing no earned runs as he overcame 4 Nap errors to post the victory. Olson went 3-for-4 as 7 different Cleveland batters got a hit, leading to 11 total for the Naps. Bill Carrigan went 3-for-4 for Boston. So the Naps were able to force a Game 5. But then gave up 4 in the top of the 4th of Game 5 to fall behind 4-0. Cleveland got within 4-3 but then Duffy Lewis hit an inside-the-park 2-run homer in the top of the 7th to stretch the Boston lead to 6-3. And that was the final score. Hugh Bedient got the win. 7 different Cleveland batters got a hit but the Naps also committed 4 errors in the game. Bill Carrigan was named Series MVP.
