Garland Pure Magic In Clincher ![]() John Garland is most likely the most mild mannered pither you can ever see take the mound, on the other hand Satchal Paige is the most charasmtic pitcher one could ever watch. These two very diffrent competitors took the mound as the Indians tried to stay alive down 2 games to 1 in this best of five series.
In order to beat Sathal Page you need to be good, well on this night Garland was great. The young right hander threw 112 pitches and allowed only five hits. Garland only struck out three but was in complete control and command and looked to be in great rhythm with his catcher AJ Pryzinski. Garland would go the distance and pitch a shutout at the most crucial time. The 41 year old Paige was strong in his own right, going into the seven innings having allowed only two runs which would be the diffrence. The Sox scored their runs both thanks to their third baseman Joe Crede. Crede drove in the opening run of the game with a base hit in the second inning. In his next atbate Crede came up with runners on the corners and flew to left field scoring Dye for the second run. A very well played game was the finale for this series. Chicago takes the cake mostly thanks to great pitching and a special performane by Carl Everett in Game 1. For Cleveland a proud champion goes down and out. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Game 4 05 White Sox win series 3-1

2006 Detroit Tigers vs 1941 New York Yankees ![]() ![]() 1941 NY Yankees
Record: 101-53 Finish: Won world series over Dodgers Manager: Joe McCarthy Home Field: Yankee Stadium Runs scored: 830 Runs allowed: 631 Team AVG: .269 Team ERA: 3.53 Home runs: 151 Key players: Joe Dimaggio OF (.357, 30, 125), Charlie Keller OF (.298, 33, 122), Marius Russo P (14-10, 3.09) This was Joltin Joe's team as he marqueed the season with his 41 game hitting streak. Still Joe McCarthy used this entire roster very well and will go down in Yankee lore with all the rest of their great teams. This Yanks side scored almost 200 more runs then their opponents and althought the numbers are not overwhelming, they were never really challanged during their run. 2006 Detroit Tigers Record: 95-67 Finish: Won AL Pennant; Lost World Series to St. Louis Cardinals Manager: Jim Leyland Home field: Comerica Park Runs scored: 822 Runs allowed: 675 Team ERA: 3.84 Teram AVG: .274 Home Runs: 203 Key Players: Magglio Ordonez OF (.298, 24, 104), Justin Verlander P (17-9, 3.63), Ivan Rodriguez C (.300, 28 2B, 69 RBI) The Tigers loved to pound the baseball and has a hard throwing pitching staff that is young and bright eyed. The team came a little bit short in the Series but on a given day blew out a great number of opponents. Kenny Rogers was also a great veteran addition to this team and Jim Leyland loved to give him the ball in the big games. A fun team to watch. Pitching matchups Game 1 at Yankee Stadium: Jeremy Bonderman (14-8, 4.09) vs Red Ruffing (15-6, 3.54) Game 2 at Yankee Stadium: Kenny Rogers (17-8, 3.84) vs Marius Russo (14-10, 3.09) Game 3 at Comerica Park: Lefty Gomez (15-5, 3.74) vs Justin Verlander (17-9, 3.63) |

Dramatic Extra Inning Win for Yanks ![]() The 2006 Detroit Tigers were determined to come out strong on the road against the much more favored 1941 New York Yankees. Jim Leyland and the Tigers knew they wanted to get off to a fast start and win this crucial opener, and with a 7-1 lead going into the bottom of the 4th with Jeffrey Bonderman on the hill, it looked like it was going to happen.
Magglio Ordonez tripled in the 4th driving in two runs as the Tigers roughed up Red Ruffing early and often. The Yankee starter allowed 8 hits and 5 runs in the first four innings and wasnt really helped by his defense behind him. The Yankees however of Joe McCarthy are so cool and confident, especially when playing at home. A Red Rolfe double in the bottom of the inning cut the lead to four and with the duration of the game still in front of them, the Yanks were still confident. Charlie Keller and Tommy Henrich went deep back to back off Bonderman in the 7th and tied the game with a 4 run inning. Bonderman appeared to lose some heat on his fastball at this stage of the game, and he paid for it. The Yankee bullpen on the other hand did a good job holding off the Tigers and frustrating them to only 2 more hits the rest of the way. The game in the twilights carried into extra innigs. In the 11th Red Rolfe led off the inning with a single off of Todd Jones. Then with one down, pinch hitter Franckie Crosetti hit a long drive over the head of Curtis Granderson in center field and Rolfe raced around the bases and beat the rela throw on a dive to score the winning run on a triple. The Yanks made their comeback look easy and did it all with Joe Dimaggio going 0-5 at the plate. This was the kind of game that can demoralize thw Tigers as they try to get even going into game two at the Stadium. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Game 1 1941 Yankees lead series 1-0

Yankees Behind Russo Too Much for Tigers ![]() In a much more efficient performance then what we saw in game one, the 1941 Yankees made easy work of the 06 Tigers with a comfortable 8-1 win.
Marius "Lefty" Russo was on top of his game and had the Tigers hitters guessing all day long. Russo made a claim as this teams best pithcer going 9 strong innings ans allowing only one run on a late meaningless Marcus Thames home run. Russo allowed one run and struck out nine on his way to helping the Yankees get a commanding 2 games to none series lead. The Yanks jumped on Tiger starter Kenny Rogers for three runs in only the 2nd inning. Johnny Strum and Phil Rizzuto both doubled in runs as Rogers fell behind too many batters. The "gambler" lasted into the 6th inning where he ran into more trouble. Tommy Heinrcih homered in his second straight game this time a 393 foot shot that plated three runs. With this Rogers was pulled from the game but the Yankees were up 8-0. The Yankees look sure to move on in this series but Tiger fans and players hope that a change of scenary at Comerca Park and its spacious dimensions will change the Detoit fortunes. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Game 2 1941 Yankees lead series 2-0

Tigers Roar Back Home ![]() After allowing the 41 Yankees to get out early again in the 3rd inning the 06 Detroit Tigers responded with 7 straight runs that gave them a large enough lead to hold on and avoid a sweep with a 10-6 win.
Craig Monroe hit two solo home runs at spacious Comerca Park off of Lefty Grove and Placido Polanco drove in two on a single as the Tigers looked like the team with more desire and fortitude in this one. Charlie King Kong Keller had given the visitors an early lead with a three run home run off Justin Verlander that suprized everyone but the young right hander settled down and deep into the eighth inning mixing together his pitches and doing a good enough job with battery mate Ivan Rodriguez. Keller for his part ended up driving in 5 runs on the night as the Yanks cut the lead to 8-6 in the seventh inning. The Tigers however got two insurance runs in the bottom of the frame off Yankee pitcher Marv Bruer thanks to a Marcus Thames triple and a Chris Shelton sac fly. The Tigers deserve the win and avoid the sweep. Also keep in mind in a short series a team ca get hot quickly, and in the bigger scope of things only have to win two more to move on. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Game 3 41 Yankees lead series 2-1

Spud Chandler Sends Yankees Through Taking full advantage of the suroundings of Comerica Park, 1941 Yankee starter Spud Chnadler spun a shutout on the mound and led his team to a 3-0 victory that ended the series at 3 games to 1 in favor of the Yankees.
Chandler had it all going and put the ball exactly where Bill Dickey wanted it. His mistakes dont carry in a park like this and try as they may, the Tigers just couldnt get a rally going and were running in mud. Nate Robertson for the home side was also sharp and didnt exactly get hit hard. Phil Rizzuto, the scooter of all people, hit a second inning home run right down the right field line and the shortest distance possible from home plate to give New York the lead. Joe Dimaggio did it more his way in the 4th going to left field for a solo job and putting the visitors up 3-0 and in control. Dimaggio has improved his play as the series has worn on after his hitless effort in game one. Yank manager Joe McCarthy never even thought of getting the bullpen up as his man Chandler had a strong defense behind him and looked like he wanted to close out this series without much of a fuss. Chandler in the end struck out three and allowed only 5 hits. In the end few could really argue that the 41 Yankees are just the better team here. The Tigers never recovered from blowing that lead in game 1 and and in the end had nothing left in the tank. Many expect big things from this 1941 Yankee who won this series with little attention from Joe Dimaggio, which makes it even more impressive. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Game 4 41 Yankees win series 3-1

1984 San Diego Padres vs 1983 Baltimore Orioles 1983 Baltimore Orioles
Record: 98-64 Finish: Won World Series over Phillies Manager: Joe Altobelli Home Park: Memorial Stadium Runs scored: 799 Runs allowed: 652 Team ERA: 3.63 Team AVG: .269 Home Runs: 168 Key Players: Eddie Murray 1B (.306, 33, 111), Cal Ripken Jr SS (.318, 27, 102), Ken Singelton DH (.276, 18, 74) The last great Baltimore team led by legends Eddie Murray and Cal Ripken who were in the prime of their careers. The bull pen maybe a little suspect with Tippy Martinez as the closer but the starting staff is strong and the team above and beyond everythign very rarely beats themselves. Will manager Altobelli use Dennis Martinez and Jim Palmer in the series? Two older pitchers who were winding down their careers but were great competitors. 1984 San Diego Padres Record: 92-70 Finish: Won NL Pennant; lost to Tigers in World Series Manager: Dick Williams Home Park: Jack Murphy Stadium Runs scored: 686 Runs allowed: 634 Team ERA: 3.48 Team AVG: .259 Home Runs: 109 Key Players: Tony Gwynn RF (.351, 33 SB, 71 RBI), Steve Garvey 1B (.284, 86 RBI), Rich Gossage CL (10-6, 2.90, 25 SV) The miracle Padres didnt do it with numbers or records but rather won with personality and heart. The Padres are led by a variety of stars who all are leaders in their own right, Craig Nettles and Steve Garvey are two veterans that keep the team grounded and Alan Wiggins is the young energy at the top of the lineup who sets the table with 70 steals. Tony Gwynn is as good as it gets, the questions are if the pithing will hold up and stay consistent, they have a strong tendancy to give up the gopher ball. Pitching Matchups Game 1 at Memorial Stadium: Eric Show (15-9, 3.40) vs Scott McGregor (18-7, 3.18) Game 2 at Memorial Stadium: Ed Whitson (14-8, 3.24) vs Storm Davis (13-7, 3.59) Game 3 at Jack Murphy Stadium: Mike Boddicker (16-8, 2.77) vs Tim Lollar (11-13, 3.91) |

Eric Puts on a Show ![]() When two teams from the same era face off the games can tend to be tight and competitive. The 84 Padres went into Baltimore with every intention of getting a win against the 83 Orioles, and their arm on the mound was up to the challange.
Eric Show can be unreliable in the big game as he has shown in the his playoff past. On this day however Dick Williams and the Padres leaned on this right handers arm and he was strong all the way up until the 9th when he handed the ball to Goose Gossage. Luis Salazar took the pressure off as he tripled in two runs in the 2nd inning with two outs off of Scott McGregor. Terry Kennedy drove two with a single in the 5th and the Padres took a comfortable 5-0 lead that Eric Show wouldnt let go. Rich Dauer did hit a long 2 run home run in the 8th but the Padres took a three run lead into the 9th inning and that was more then enough for Gossage who did allow a run in the ninth but did close the door. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Game 1 84 Padres lead series 1-0

San Diego Coming Home In Style ![]() A very well played game at Memorial Stadium came down to the end with the 1984 San Diego Padres the victors over the 83 Birds for the second time on the east coast by a score of 3-2, taking a two game lead back to Jack Murphy Stadium. Ed Whitson followed Eric Show with another very productive start in this one but was matched by Storm Davis who avoided the big mistakes. Down by a run the Orioles scored two in the third inning thanks doubles by Al Bumbry and Eddie Murray. John Lowenstein grounded out to end the same inning in what could have been a breakthrough for Baltimore, somthing they would regret later. In the 6th inning Steve Garvey came through with a two out hit and Terry Kennedy rumbled around the bases and just beat the play to the plate to tie the score. In the 9th inning Davis was tired but stayed in the game, he soon however got into trouble as two hits and an intentional walk to Tony Gwynn loaded the bases with no one out. Tippy Martinez came into the game in a tough spot in hopes of getting out of quite a jam, but Graig Nettlles hit a fly ball to right field that was long enough to score Bobby Brown from third with the go ahead run. Goose Gossage came on again in the bottom of the ninth and delivered three straight out. The Orioles were beat again and now are wondering if they have any life. The Padres who are used to being the underdog in many ways now head back home as the overwhelming favorites to close out this series, we will see how they respond. a very well played game tonight. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Game 2 84 Padres lead series 2-0

ORIOLES GET TO GOOSE, EXTEND SERIES ![]() Back home and hoping to party with a series clinching win the 84 San Diego Padres may not have expected the fight the Orioles had left. In a 10 inning battle the 83 Orioles avoided being eliminated and defeated San Diego 5-3.
Baltimore got off to the faster start when Jim Dwyer went deep in the very first inning to open the score off Padre starter Mark Thurmond. Batimore would extend the lead to three in the sixth inning thanks to a two run, two out single by Gary Roenicke past a diving Tim Flannery. San Diego was having a rouch go up to this point against Oriole starter Mike Boddicker who had held them scoreless with relative ease after 5. In the bottom of the 6th however the Padres loaded the bases with no one out and two consecutive sacrafice flies, both deep, cut the lead to one run. Bobby Brown got the start from Dick Williams in this game and the moved payed off for him. Brown singled to lead off the bottom of the ninth as Tippy Martinez tried the close out the game. Brown then stole second base and then stole third base as Rick Dempsey couldnt get his man on the bases either time. Finally rattled with two outs and Carmelo Martinez at the plate, Martinez threw a wild pitch and the game was tied at three. At this point Rich Gossage came into the game. The Orioles wernt about to feel sorry for themselves even though they had lost their lead. With one out and two on, Jim Dwyer doubled in the gap in left and two runs crossed the plate, giving the Orioles another sigh of relief. Tippy Martinez again walked the lead off man in the 10th but then was able to settle it down, and close the door for the final three outs and the win. Now the question remains who Baltimore throws on the mound for game 4. The rumor is that Dave Martinez will get the start despite his injury filled season. Game 4 can not get more crucial as the Padres will want to close things out and get it done at home without any Game 5 drama. This is turing out to be a very good series. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Game 3 84 Padres lead series 2-1

Oriole Bats Silenced To End Series The 1984 San Diego Padres may have not won a championship but in their series against the 83 Baltimore Orioles they pitched and played like it. The Padres won the clinching game by the tight score of 2-0 behind their pitching. Tim Lollar threw eight scoreless innings and allowed only three hits.
The Orioles went with Dennis Martinez and the Nicaraguan pitcher was strong on the night as he and Lollar looked unhittable early. In the 4th inning however the fortunes of the game changed as the Padres would end up scoring the only runs of the game. Luis Salazar singled in the opening run and then Terry Kennedy followed with an RBI single in which Salazar was actually thrown out at the plate on. The Padres scored two runs and had the Jack Murphy crowd behind them but even more so Tim Lollar was having one of those rare nights. Lollar did have a high pitch count and did walk six men but got out of the tough spots when he needed to. The Orioles left 16 men on base and know they wasted a good effort by Martinez who went the distance and waited patiently for his team to respond. In the end it was Goose Gossage who came in and got his third save of the series, Gossage pitched in everygame of the series and Dick Williams whows just how much he depends on the closer. The Goose closed the door and the Padres celebrate a mini upset as they move on to bigger and better things. San Diego are an interesting bunch who can beat you in many ways, but the starting pitching for them in this series had to be considered the ultimate difference. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Game 4 84 Padres win series 3-1 ****Note no box score for this game as OOTP closed down before I could save. sorry.**** Last edited by Nick Soulis; 04-29-2010 at 11:20 PM. |

2007 Colorado Rockies vs 1984 Detroit Tigers ![]() 1984 Detroit Tigers
Record: 104-58 Finish: Won World Series over Padres Manager: Sparky Anderson Home Park: Tiger Stadium Runs scored: 829 Runs allowed: 643 Team ERA: 3.49 Team AVG: .271 Home Runs: 187 Key Players: Alan Trammel SS (.314, 14 HR, 19SB), Willie Hernandez CL (9-3, 1.92 ERA, 32 S), Lance Parrish C (33 HR, 98 RBI) From the clutch hitting of Kirk Gibson to the no hit ball of Trader Jack Morris this team had an aura about it that made it great. Willie Hernandez out of the bullpen had a dream season and almost everything Sparky Anderson did in 1984 turned to gold. This team probably was the best team of the decade of the 80's and would be considered favorites against almost anyone. 2007 Colorado Rockies Record: 90-73 Finish: WOn NL Pennant; lost in World Series to Boston Manager: Clint Hurdle Home Park: Coors Field Runs scored: 860 Runs allowed: 758 Team ERA: 4.32 Team AVG: .280 Home Runs: 171 Key Players: Matt Holliday OF (.340, 36, 137), Todd Helton 1B (.320, 42 2b, 91 RBI), Brad Hawpe RF (.291, 29, 116) This team ended the 07 season with one of the most incredible runs in baseball hostory and carried it into the post season to win the pennant. They can swing the bats with the best of them but may have some issues with their pitching. A very fun team to watch with exciting players and a team that can rally from almost any deficit and put together the big innings. Matt Holliday had a season to remember for this team. Pitching matchups Game 1 at Tiger Stadium: Jeff Francis (17-9, 4.22) vs Jack Morris (19-11, 3.60) Game 2 at Tiger Stadium: Aaron Cook (8-7, 4.12) vs Dan Petry (18-8, 3.24) Game 3 at Coors Field: Milt Wilcox (17-8, 4.00) vs Josh Fogg (10-9, 4.94) |

Rockies Stun Tigers Behind Francis ![]() The 07 Colorado Rockies are really not suppose to pose much of a threat to the powerful 84 Detroit Tigers but sometimes when a pitcher is throwing the ball with confidence, upsets happen.
Jeff Francis of the Rockies was that man today as he battled Jack Morris at Tiger Stadium and came out the deserved victor in a tight 2-1 win for the future visitors. Francis threw 114 pitches and allowed only one run on the night while striking out five. "Sometimes you pitch on adrenalen" said Francis after the win, "I remained focused and im happy to get a win against such a good team, be we arnt bad ourselves." Todd Helton hit a solo homerun in the first inning off of Morris to open the scoring but the Tigers answered right back. Kirk Gibson homered to right to tie the game as Francis couldnt keep the slider down, he wouldnt make the same mistake again. The Tigers had the bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th with only one man out, but Darrell Evans hit into a 5-4-3 double play to end the threat. In the top of the eigth Willy Taveras singles home Kaz Matsui for the go ahead run. Clint Hurdle went with Manny Corpas in the 9th even though the game was tight. Again Dwight Evans came up with two men on and two out, he rapped one to second that Matsui made a nice play on to end the game. So the Rockies pull the upset in game 1 but can really have the baseball world talking with another win in game number two. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Game 1 07 Rockies lead series 1-0

Tigers Bite Back at Rocks ![]() The 1984 Detroit Tigers are not used to losing and came into game 2 of their series with the 07 Colorado Rockies wondering how they would respond to some adversity. The verdict is in after the Tigers doubled up the Rockies 8-4 to even the best of five series.
Dan Petry wasnt great on the mound for Detroit and Sparky Anderson but was definaltely good enough as the lefty went all 9 innings of his determined 129 pitch effort. Petry did fall behind early again and were facing a 4-1 deficit into the 6th innig thanks in large part to a Yorvit Torrealba home run and two RBI's from Brad Hawpe. The Tigers had finally had enough and came rushing back at Colorado starter Aaron Cook. A Chet Lemon two run double plated two and the outfielder came home a batter later when Lou Whitaker took a shot off the right field wall that tied the game. With the game tied an inning later the Tigers showed their muscle with the long ball. Pinch hitter Rupert Jones took a 1-2 pitch out with a man on over the right field porch. After Larry Herndon walked, Kirk Gibson hit his second home run of the series, this one an upper deck shot measured at 423 feet that put the Tigers up four runs. Gibson an inning later did it in the field when he trew out Garrett Atkins at the plate to end the 8th inning after Brad Hawpe had doubled down the line. So the Tigers respond well to being down and tie this series. Now Coors field comes into play for games 3 and 4, where the bats are sure to be heard from again. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Game 2 Series tied at 1

HOLLIDAY BASH AT COORS ![]() Coors Field lived up to its reputation in game three of this series as an offensive paradise as the 07 Rockies beat the 84 Tigers in grand style to take a 2-1 series lead.
A great back and forth battle may in some people's eyes be the turning point of this series. With the game tied at 8 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Matt Holliday took Willie Hernandez to a full count with two men out before he slammed a breaking ball 399 feet over the left field wall and the diving attempt of Larry Herndon. The celebrations and fireworks completed the evening of great baseball and a true opportunity now for the Rockies to complete a huge upset in this tournament. The Rockies broke out to a 5 run lead roughing up Milt Wilcox in the process. Todd Helton had a two run single and Josh Fogg helped his won cause with a 2 run hit of his own. Down 6-2 in the 5th the Tigers slowly chipped away at the lead that Josh Fogg fought to preserve. Lou Whitaker got an infield hit with the bases loaded and a sacrafie fly cut the lead to only two. The Rockies again answered and pushed their lead back out to four runs at 8-4. In the 6th inning however Alan Trammell answered in a big way. The short stop who is a leader on and off the field brught his team back with a three run home run to left that cut the big Rockie lead to only one run. Clint Hurdle went to the bullpen and brought on Taylor Buchholz. In the seventh inning Lou Whitaker, who had a good game, hit a home run down the right field line showing his power and tying the thrilling game. The bulpen game and managerial gambles started as both teams went into the late innings preserving the tie. All until Matt Holliday proved that he was the man of the night. The win is an enourmous momentum swing and now the Rockies have their chance to close it all out on their home field. If the game is anything like this one, we have alot to look forward to. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Game 3 Rockies lead series 2-1

Colorado On A Rockie High ![]() Following a dramatic win in Game 3 win with a walk off home run, the 07 Colorado Rockies closed the deal in style with an easy run away win against the stunned 84 Tigers by a score of 11-3.
Panamanian starter Juan Berenguer had a very rough outing when his team needed something much better. Berenguer went only four innings and allowed six earned runs not being able to get a single out in the 5th inning, the bullpen didnt have much better of a night. Matt Holliday picked up right where he left off a hit two home runs in the first 5 innings including a 2 run shot in the 5 run 5th inning. Holliday has three home runs in his last 5 atbats. Brad Hawpe followed Holliday with a solo shot of his own as the Rockies continued the parade around the bases. After reliever Randy Oneal came on he allowed another two run shot from Yorvit Torrealba to make the lead 8-1. After a minirun by the Tigers, Garrett Atkins hit the 5th long ball of the night and another two run shot. The celebrations began at Coors Field as the Tigers hung their heads and headed out of the tournament. A giant upset by the Rockies and opposing manager Sparky Anderson conceded the fact, "They were better then we were, and they are deserving winners." Young pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez threw a good game, allowing only 4 hits and one earned run while taking the game into the 8th inning. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Game 4 Colorado Win series 3-1

1994 Montreal Expos vs 1963 LA Dodgers 1963 LA Dodgers
Record: 99-63 Finish: Won World Series over NY Yankees Manager: Walter Alston Home Park: Dodger Stadium Runs scored: 640 Runs allowed: 550 Team AVG: .251 Team ERA: 2.85 Home Runs: 110 Key Players: Sandy Koufax SP (25-5, 1.88), Tommy Davis LF (.326, 16, 88), Maury Wills SS (.302, 40 SB) Its all about the pitching when looking at the 63 Dodger team. Koufax and Don Drysdale may have been the best duo their ever was a Koufax expecially was hitting his prime and really couldnt be touched by anyone. The team also had speed and baserunning skills as they knew one run could be the diffrence with their staff. In a short series this team could be impossible to beat. 1994 Montreal Expos Record: 74-40 Finish: Had the best record in all of baseball before season was cancelled. Manager: Felipe Alou Home Park: Stade Olympique Runs scored: 585 Runs allowed: 454 Team AVG: .278 Team ERA: 3.56 Home Runs: 108 Key Players: Moises Alou OF (.339, 22, 78), Larry Walker OF (.322, 19, 86), John Wetteland CL (4-6, 2.83, 25 SV) One of the biggest shames in the games history was the lost season of 1994 and no team lost more then the 1994 Expos who by all counts had their best team in their history. Loaded at every level this team came together in a huge way before it was broken up. Ken Hill and Pedro Martinez were lights out while their bullpen was the best in the game. The Expo outfield was among the best assembled on a team for the era, and finally the mystery of just how good this team may have been could be answered. Pitching matchups Game 1 at Dodger Stadium: Ken Hill (16-5, 3.32) vs Sandy Koufax (25-5, 1.88) Game 2 at Dodger Stadium: Pedro Martinez (11-5, 3.42) vs Don Drysdale (19-17, 2.63) Game 3 at Stade Olympique: Johnny Podres (14-12, 3.54) vs Jeff Fassero (8-6, 2.99) |
