How about a re-vamped transactions module. What I mean is, some new reports showing only trades within a league for each season.

A better parsed player history where Transactions, Ratings changes, contract changes, injuries, and awards are seperated for easier viewing.

Specific Player trade history report that shows every trade a player was involved in over his career and even updates to include who the draft pick(s) turned out to be in the even draft pick trading is on.

The ability to have a trade include a "Player to be named later". This could be roughly applied by having the trading partner send an e-mail after the season is over with a selection of say, 3-5 of your players where you must pick one or more to complete the deal.

You mentioned you were tired of doing it yourself, so I gave you a perfectly good alternative to get the schedule you want with a minimum of fuss.

As to editing schedules inside the game, it is part of OOTP, you just don't happen to like what it has to offer.

If you want to create custom schedules, doing it outside OOTP is by far the best choice. Even if you just want to edit schedules, it's probably far easier and quicker to do it outside the game. Export the schedule file, open it in Excel or whichever spreadsheet app you have, and edit it as you wish. The export and import functions are there for just such purposes.

I didn't read the whole thread so I don't know if this has been added.

An EASY way to set up a league in a specific year with different teams from different years. Like a sandbox setup.

Instead of players or personel turning down contract offers they don't like and saying it is close to something they can agree to, I would like to get a counter offer back that I can either accept or make another counter offer to the player.

This is where the addition of agents could be interesting. Agents can have different personalities and negotiating styles that result in more colorful and informative feedback.

I do not know if this has been mentioned, but how about a 'Call the game like never before - select the pitches your pitcher throws, see how effective they are in real-time, and make adjustments like a real big league hurler!'

Or, 'Baseball is a game of ebb and flow. Watch your team's confidence, momentum, and focus shift from player-to-player, inning-to-inning! Is your team able to make the comeback? Is your pitcher focused enough to close out the big game? See it all right in front of you!'

Edit: I meant this for the back-of-the-box thread, but I suppose these could warrant more discussion. The confidence, momentum, and focus could be rating-related or based on long-term, short-term, and situational performance for a batter and a pitcher. Confidence would be lower for a pitcher against a great hitter this season, the past ten games, against him lifetime, or who went yard last time against him. Momentum could be high for a team if they have a high team confidence or team chemistry level and a few men get on base while down a few runs. The higher rating for this on each player could effect the team's rating, making a comeback more or less probable. Focus could be hurt for a pitcher with a speed demon on first, or for a batter against a guy with multiple good pitchers and who switched it up. Etc. Run with it, I guess.

Some people have tried OOTP and decided against the purchase. Or, if they bought the game, they gave up on it quickly. I would be interested in hearing from them. Is OOTP missing something obvious? What do other text sims offer than OOTP does not? Would adding some of these features broaden the appeal of OOTP? "Overhearing" the conversations on other message boards (for other baseball text sims), I often hear people make outdated claims about OOTP. For example, they often dismiss OOTP as a GM-type game only. It is that, sure -- but offers so much more. Unfortunately, these claims go unchallenged and, I'm sure, many potential customers look elsewhere for their baseball fix. I think it would help if we could correct these misperceptions about OOTP (in OOTP advertising, for a start?).

Ok, I did promise a mock-up "later tonight" and we're already into the wee hours. Therefore, I'll make good on my promise. However, I'm too tired to describe it in detail at the moment, so I'll just put it up for you to look over and I'll give my descriptions and explanations this afternoon sometime.

A couple of really quick notes:

First, understand that some of the info is inconsistent and/or repetitive (the lineup boxes, for instance) due to the fact that screenshots were lifted from different screens and pieced together. Keep in mind that this mock-up is for demonstration purposes. Please ignore anything that's obviously innacurate.

Second, note that I had to cut, crop, and shrink several of the boxes that currently exist in the game to make them fit. (Plus, you'll see I pretty much filled up the entire in-game screen.) Because I have poor vision, I tried not shrink anything to the point that it would be unreadable.

Finally, notice that the various tabs formerly at the top of the screen (Network, Broadcast, etc.) have been eliminated. I believe all the important data is on this single screen. However, there are numerous buttons that, when clicked, would pop up a floating screen with extra info that can be simply closed after viewing.

(Btw, sorry for the poor editing quality. I do all these in MS Paint.)

More on all of this later today.

How about 3D highlights? I play a cricket text sim that has 3D highlights. I rarely use the feature, but I can see how it would appeal to the casual player. It's also not a difficult feature to implement. It's all pre-determined animations and physics.

Depends on what they're looking for. I use OOTP for fictional but I use another game for historical. I think if the defensive model was fixed it would make the historical game a lot better.

This actually starts down the road towards my personal favorite suggestion for maybe OOTP 13 or so - 3D Graphics along with audio PBP. Nothing is as immersive as watching the action unfold right in front of your eyes.

I know this is a matter of some debate but I want to second the above post. We caught a glimpse of what simulation games could look like with that pc game that game out this summer (the name escapes me right now). Combining the detail and realism of OOTP with animation would be truly spectacular.

I'm still waiting for the franchise encyclopedia pitcher page to look like this rather than the mishmash that it currently resembles.

I also want to see the top five pitchers listed and for the positional page to also show who has started the most games and how many games that was.

Minor things, but I'd love to see them.

Something really small...

SOM has had Web Gems on their boxscores for years - basically a listing of great defensive plays in the game. I'd like to see something like that added to OOTP boxscores.
