How is the facial hair done? Is it a texture overlay on the 3D model, or another 3D element added to the model like the hat would be? Can we make our own custom facial hair? If you can add other 3D elements to the model (e.g. hats), why not have a couple of long hair 3D elements? Am I asking too many questions ?

Didn't the Bag-o-heads collection include hair (other than facial)? Wasn't that using Face-Gen?

Yes, the bags-o-heads that a couple of us did had hair already on the heads. No, that hair wasn't done using FaceGen. I did a 2D hair template that you could overlay hair on a FaceGen-generated head (assuming the head was oriented a specific direction).

Thanks. That explains that. Markus's "seriously" was indeed serious. Without the hats, they'll be Howie Mandel - Marvin Hagler leagues.
I can hear the cries now. "What if I want a Dog, the Bounty Hunter League?"

That's the best question someone has asked me in almost two days.

Cannot predict now.

This makes me want to set up a mid 90's league this weekend with the new build.

Well it's unfortunately very hard to use some "3D hairs". These 3D models are HUGE (i.e. they use much RAM and need much time to be "painted") and we would even need several different hair models. We'ld even get problems with the caps because the hair would look out of the caps
It's not easy, really... We'll work on facial hair and "painted" hair which is looking a little bit longer

Yeah that would be possible too, but since we're using rendering and different angles and zoom, we cannot do that.

The hair is a texture overlay on the 3D model. There will be several overlays and OOTP will use one of them for each head.

It should be possible to create own custom facial hair overlays (these are overlays, too).

No, see earlier post.

In the textures, there are only the colors red, blue and green. For the jerseys, OOTP automatically replaces red with "jerseys main color", blue with the "jerseys secondary color" and green with the "jerseys pin stripes color". This way you can easily define your own colors for the default caps and jerseys.

Additionally, you can create your own caps or jerseys textures for each team. You just copy the default textures, open them in a pixel graphics program, edit them and save them as "caps_teamname_nickname.png" or "jerseys_teamname_nickname.png".

Some like to see the jerseys in the player pictures, some like to see only the faces. Just because the picture size is always the same and when you give away half the picture for the jerseys, the face will be smaller, and so they will look more identically because there are less details. Some like to see the pictures from the left, from the right, or straight. So I'll add options today for "Facegen Angle" and "Facegen Zoom".
Excellent!

For uniforms, are we stuck to one set of modern era uniforms or are there a variety of stripes, pinstriping, and piping?

If not, for those of us who DO own products like FaceGen and 3DMax, can we edit custom uniforms?

I'm not sure, but does this answer your question, Deft?...

Thanks for the response, Andreas. The texture overlays should be fine for short hair and closely trimmed facial hair. Sounds like any longer hair (Johnny Damon hair) or facial hair that extends off the face (like a Joel Zumaya beard) would require adding more 3D and that's not in the plan (yet). Here's hoping it goes so well that you can put the extra 3D stuff in.

Yeah thanks, that would be cool! But to be honest, I don't think that it will be possible. Anyway, we need something to add for the 2008 version, too

There's gonna be a 2008 version?!?! where are all the screenshots, what kind of demo, and will it be perfect?

Keep up the great work Andreas, everyone appreciates it, as well as your communication with the board.

The great thing is that if we really want some longhairs in our league, we can always edit the photos ourselves. In fact, I'm sure people will come up with 2D overlays that can be added as long as people use particular zooms and angles that are specified.
