Need help with a trading decision
I had already won two WS in a row with an ever increasing fan base, revenue, and payroll. Plus most all of my players will actually get better over time(which is incredible accounting I won 2 WS).
Now after the WS I tried to sign huge stars which I don't even need(I got no weakness) but That left me with a problem. I had Derek Lowe (1.79, 24-1) Josh Beckett (not sure but around 3.00 ERAs and 20 Ws) Kasu. Ishii ( not sure but around 2.00 ERAs and 20 Ws) D'Amico(14-something) and someone else not important. Now during the season I traded for Bud Smith(can already pitch well) and 3 others, which I put in the minors to get ready for next season. But in the offseason I get Zito and Pedro!! I could trade them but I mean Come On! PEDRO and ZITO!! Plus with OOTP 4.1 trading for rookies are harder, what should I do trade my team, my future, my signings, or WHAT?!? |

Play using house rules!
Personally I would keep a five man rotation of- Lowe, Beckett, Ishi, Zito and Pedro. Put Smith in the minors...along with the 3 others. Pedro may be getting older, so Smith or the others are replacements. I don't know...maybe you can trade for some younger position players? Also, you gotta have some weakness...even if the game says not. Theres gotta be some position where you're not happy with who you have there. If not, I say you're screwed. But in a good way. |

I fear the game will rapidly lose its solo play appeal with you unless you formulate some house rules making it tougher to wax the AI controlled teams!

I don't believe that D Lowe is capable of those stats? What would your payroll be with the additions of Zito and Pedro? You will not be able to trade these high priced players to other teams once you have them. There are more have nots in small markets than haves in big markets. The haves are probably already maxed out on payroll relative to their market share.
I think that your league has lost some realism. You need to develop house rules. Try this: Switch teams, and start managing the weakest team with a decent market in the league and try to build a franchise (ala Parcells in football with the pats/jets) Give yourself a 5 year time limit to turn the team into a playoff contender that makes money and has a solid fan base. And don't go against your developed rules in the process. If you don't accomplish this goal, you are fired by management and you sit out a year of simming. Join another team after your year long stint as analyst on Baseball Tonight. |

well I used rolen's roster and used Texas so I got a lot of good players to trade and an incredible fan base. If I had used Tampa Bay or Montreal it would take a little longer to achieve this, assuming I can.
BTW I traded for great position players but now I have another problem, all my minors are stacked in AAA and with my 2nd oldest is only 30! So now I gotta trade away a Championship team so new players can get through to the majors or I can just start over or join another team. |

I (the Devil Rays) traded for Derek Lowe who was 6-1 with Boston at the time. He quickly went 0-7 with Tampa! So, nice job on your part! I've got some work ahead of me!
