Why can t we have a game visual option?

Hi everybody; i think that our game will really be the top in the world if he could add a sort of graphic engine, but not a 3d or complicated one, just a simple visual representation of the ballground. that let you know where the ball had been batted, so that you can decide how t instruct the baserunner; i mean when you skip around 2nd and you are asked wether to advance to third, how can you decide if you don't know where EXACTLY the ball is in that moment?
Puresim baseball is, in my opinion, inferior to ootp under several aspects. but the graphic representation gives that game 10 points more.
Let me know what you all think about this.

Because at this time we have chosen to give time to more realistic player movement and rules and re-code the game engine for more true to life results.

I'm sure something like that will get into the game eventually. Enough people have mentioned it. Probably not until next year, at least, though.

Heck, Markus himself has mentioned it.

By the way, does anyone of you play CM 4? My dream would be a 2D game engine for OOTP, but this will probably not happen before OOTP 7.
So we've all got that to look forward to.

I don't know about you, but I'm more looking forward to OOTP6 than a feature that might be in OOTP7 right now...

It seems to me that a graphical display of OOTP that would accurately depict on-field action would require a great deal of work. If Markus' vision is to have the gamer be able to use this model when making baserunning desicions I think the game needs to accurately reflect where and how hard balls are hit on the field. This would necessitate a great deal of historical play-by-play data. Of course, the game could always include a 'just for kicks' display. That would be pretty cool too.

yes, i played cm4 and i reckon that would be too hard trying to implent such an engine in the game, but i was just thinking of something really easy and rudimental. like the puresim webcast.
I only own ootp 5 but few days ago i had a look at the puresim website (didn't even know that game before) and wondered why such a complete and accurate game like ootp couldn t take advantage of that visual engine.

I don't want one unless I can see the pores of the player's skin. I want gritty realism.

I think a "just for kicks" display would be a waste of effort myself. Its neat at first but after awhile it would be boring and unless you could have an option to turn it off it might just slow down the time it takes to play out a game.

I would much rather the time be spent fleshing out some of the already existing features of the game.

I don't play my games, so this sort of thing is useless to me.

I like the "Just for kicks" idea. But to actually implement it where you would make baserunning decitions would probably be alot of work on the engine. Currently I go by runner speed and outfielder arm to determine whether or not to go.

A graphical representation of whats happening onfield would make playing the game rather slow. I like to speed up the text to get the game going!

This graphical representation talk reminded me of Strat-o-matic. Whatever happened to that? I was roughly 10 years old (I'm 21 now) when I was shown it, so I couldn't keep my attention on it for long. Looking back, I think it was cool. Anyone know what happened to it?

People keep talking about Strat-o-matic. It reminds me alot of the baseball game i used to play on the old commodor 128. A quick text would tell you what happened at the same time as the ball was hit.

Maybe they were the same thing?

This game was cool cause you could use historical teams and whatnot.

When you'd hit the ball, there would be a trail showing you where it went.

Yeah the game i had also used historical teams. The game i had would give you a choice.....you could use the '55 dodgers against the 1906 cubs and stuff like that. I remember I used to manually input stats in our league back then. Of course it was just a small league with a few friends. Looking for that old game is how I found OOTP.

For those who might not know what puresim's "gamecast technology" looks like, here's a screenshot:

It's not bad, but I'd prefer something more like even the rudimentary graphics of the old baseball games that we used to play in the early to mid 80s:

I think something like these would look awesome for OOTP though:

More screenshots of Baseball Addict at: http://www.hexacto.com/game_baseball.php

Of course, make it an option to turn off to speed things up for those who want that though.

including a graphical presentation would virtually make in-game screen mods useless...

I know the mods Henry, myself, and others have done probably would not lend themselves to a graphical representation.

Guess I'd rather have the flexibility and have them work on the game engine...
