EA SPORTS Fight Night 2004

As anybody been curious about this new video game about EASPORTS. I know we cant mention that game with our own here..because that is like comparing apples and oranges.

TB is the best box sim out there. Still this is a video game. I guess for some morbid curiosity it is good to look at as a rental still I long for realism..alot of boxer and in depth sim stuff that only TB can deliver.

Just throwing this subject carrot out there for your discussion, positively or negatively!

Knockout Kings, the later ones, were fun, but I despise EA Sports for the most part. I mean you just know you're going to have a whole bunch of that "EA Trax" garbage music in the game. EA Sports have gone from making mildly good sports games to being MTV with sports in it... I mean it pops up the artist and title whenever a song plays. I hate that. And it still does it even if you have the music OFF!

I enjoyed an old sega genesis game that had Dempsey and Joe Louis Sugar Ray Robinson. They would say one or two phrases and they played period music for each fighter. Not a good boxing sim but I got a kick out of it.

Cool

Man this thread brings back memories. I played Starrank Boxing and Ringside Seat to death on my Commodore 64 back in the day

How about the Punch-Out!!! series? Totally unrealistic, no real boxers (except for Mike Tyson back when people wanted to be like him), but fun as heck. And I even sucked at it!

I like most EA Sports titles, mostly because I'm more of a mainstream gamer. It takes a rare title for me to play the management side of things. In fact, before I found .400 Software, no management or stat-based game lasted on my hard drive longer than a month. Now, I'd be playing TBCB more if I hadn't found Extreme Warfare Revenge for free a couple weeks ago...

Ring King for Nintendo...that was the best BOXING as far as console boxing goes...wasn't just smashing buttons...good call but console boxing is just an arcade game, no realism...

TV Sports Boxing (AKA: ABC Wide World of Sports boxing for the PC and Evander Holyfield Real Deal Boxing for the genesis) is, IMHO, the greatest boxing game ever made. It had the best career mode by far, although the genesis version was too watered down compared to the other two. You can still download this game from Cinemaware from their classic vault:
http://www.cinemaware.com/clsgame_tvboxing.asp
(I wish other game companies take note of what cinemaware is doing for the fans of their old games!)

You will either need to get DOSBox (DOS emulator) for the PC version or WinUAE to emulate the Amiga version(very complicated.)

A close second goes to 4D Boxing, which only needed a better career mode to take a comanding lead for greatest boxing game ever.

Slightly off topic: Yeah, Cinemaware get it I think. Compare them to the morons at Codemasters who won't even let sites distribute copies of their old C64 titles. There's aggresively pursuing your copyright, then there's being a total friggin' jerk. Codemasters get that award and don't get another dime from me for anything. (Not that their 8bit games were any good.)

4D Sports Boxing was great fun.

Hey Bigtrouble, how do you get TV Sports boxing to run? It's a great game, and I've downloaded it from multiple sites, but even in Dosbox I can't get it to work. The install to hard drive function asks me for a disk I don't have, and the exe file doesn't do anything.

I'll give it a shot through DOSbox and tell you what I find... I have it installed on my p133 laptop and it works really well. One thing I do remember is that you most likely have to turn off the adlib sounds and just use the PC speaker(which isn't an issue cause there's almost no sound anyway) as I had issues with sound enabled.

Darn, TVSB is listed as broken in the DOSbox database. I guess we'll have to wait for them to fix it in a future update.

Does anyone know why EA Sports don't release their boxing games on the PC, instead of just consoles? It seems to me like they are missing out on sales.

I know a guy at EAS and I've asked him the same question before many times. Still haven't received a rational explanation and the response has changed over the years. The latest excuse had to do with that terrible version of KO Kings they had on their website & the failure of their attempts to have people pay a subscription price for the on-line version. Basically, they've come to the conclusion that the market isn't there.

I keep telling him the audience is there if they'll just build a decent game that people can buy. For some odd reason, I guess I just don't have a lot of pull with management. Personally, I prefer the sims, but I'd purchase a button pusher too if it was done right.

Ah yes -- I remember when Electronic Arts was being propped up by Bill Budge and Dan Bunten software, and sold software in the oddest-shaped packaging ever created.... (They were roughly like the sleeves for double-LPs, but slightly bigger than a 45. Those are references to something called 'vinyl records', for you youngins.)

Anyhoo, one of my friends is a marketing manager for EA Sports, and the reason these games don't come out on PC is fairly simple: money. Console titles sell ten to twenty TIMES as many units as PC titles -- even for popular games like Madden. Since virtually all EA games are initially programmed for consoles, it costs $$ to convert them to PC. And that's money the companies don't realistically expect to make back for most titles. Which is why only the most popular titles, or titles with proven track records on PC (Nascar, Tiger Woods, FIFA) make it to PC versions.

Knockout Kings (both versions) didn't sell particularly well. Hence, no real desire to port to PC. If one really takes off, it's likely the NEXT version will be ported.

One final note -- "Evander Holyfield Real Deal Boxing" WAS a terrific game. I agree totally.
