Talking OOTP4...2003 GAME OF THE YEAR?

According to the latest issue of Computer Gaming World, High Heat Baseball 2002 was voted 2002 Best Sports Game of the Year. The nominees: Championship Manager, College Years, and EA Sports games. CGW goes on to say, "The truth is we almost didnt give an award in this category. The entire genre has been in steady decline for years, with fewer games living up to any level of quality that PC gamers expect." The say they respected Championship Manager but the award was for an American based game and College Years was impressive but felt like it was missing something.

I believe that OOTP4 will answer CPW's prayers. Steady decline? OOTP has improved over time and will soon be an example of what games and their developers should be about. My vote: OOTP4 for 2003 Sports Game of the Year!

Sad as it is, I don't think they'll consider it.

For some insane reason, places like IGN and Gamespot don't even mention OOTP, even though it is, in my opinion, the best baseball sim on the market.

But, we can all hope.

Maybe its our responsibility as avid fans of the game to MAKE the magazines take some notice. I'm not saying march to the publisher's headquarters with picket signs or anything. Just, maybe some kind emails asking why OOTP4 wasn't in the monthly sports roundup/preview/review. Maybe the fans are what can put OOTP on top.

good idea...i would do that with no problem. b/c i wanted to read previews on OOTP4 and i found it extremely hard to do that when no video game pre/review website covered the game...we need to push the issue on them and have them realize what they are missing!

I really don't visit many gaming sites anymore. The graphics take to long to load on my dialup. If someone wanted to post some links, I'd be glad to go check em out and send some emails.

I got tired of checking Gamespot in vain for a mention of any kind of this great game, so I sent an e-mail to the executive editor in charge of PC games to request that they give the game a look. We'll see if they do anything about it.

It's funny you should mention that. When I read that same article I thought to myself they didn't play OOTP3 then! I think I'll be e-mailing them around the time for their next awards issue

Good news. Here is the (very) quick response from Gamespot regarding an article on OOTP4 --

Hi Trent,
Actually, we do have a review of Out of the Park 4 in the works. We plan to post it later next week. Thanks for the note,

Who says OOTP needs to have all this publicity? We don't want Markus selling out... It's like all those bands that get major air play on MTV... they all(for the most part) suck but know how to market themselves. I think it's a great accomplishment to not sell out and still kick ass.

Maybe this is going a bit far, but that idea still remains... Maybe if OOTP was awarded best game by an independant developer or something like that

I don't think any of us want Markus to 'sell out'. Hopefully he has seen what has happened to some other sucessful independent games after they were picked up by a major publisher (read: FOF). I think that exposure would be good for the game though, and I'm sure Markus would appreciate the increased sales. I look at it as a way to insure that the OOTP franchise remains independent. If the game was suffering sales wise, maybe then the only alternative would be to hook on with a company that can afford marketing and such. But, if sales are good due to some exposure by a gaming mag/site, then why 'sell out'?

Thats pretty impressive.

I was hoping that they would do a review of OOTP4, but I haven't seen it . After their glowing review of OOTP3, I would have for sure thought that they would do one for OOTP4.
