returning player
I use to play OOTP years ago, and I returned to the game that I loved to find it not remotely the same.
Where is the balance? I tend to play each of teams games and I will click sim remaining game if the score gets out of hand. I feel like the computer cheats a lot!! I have experienced sequences that defy belief such as players getting intentionally walked only to be picked off at first base. I have games where my starting pitcher is doing well and cruising along, no runs, only a few hits with a walk or two and the pitcher gets tired in the 6th inning?? my pitching staff cannot find the catchers mit in the 7th inning. on offense and getting a runner at 3rd with less than 2 outs and I can count on not scoring that runner. i'd love to throw my hands up and be done with it, but maybe its an end user issue after all. any advice would be appreciated. |

But.... well, if you think 25 is different, and don't like it, the easiest and fastest cure is to play the older version you love. Last edited by Brad K; 02-05-2025 at 11:26 PM. |

thanks for the reply. I'm not looking to whine about the game, genuinely asking for advice here. yes I have a few pet peeves, but they were prevalent in the prior version I played before such as base running and throwing the ball in from the outfield and not preventing the hitter from reaching scoring position instead opting to throw it home.
on the topic of pitch count, the way I typically play is when I am at bat, I opt to 'swing away' when I am pitching I opt to SIM the half inning. I take control and pitch to batter when the bullpen will take over and it looks volatile. would my pitch count not get so bloated if I opt to 'pitch to batter' juxtaposed to SIM the half inning. there are times when my pitcher seems so be cruising along with only a couple hits or walks allowed and the pitch count is almost 100 entering the 6th and he's crying he's fatigued. The game (as in MLB) has changed a lot since the version of OOTP you're probably playing. One thing that would absolutely affect the ability to score runners from third is that strikeouts have increased by a ton in the last few years. I tend to have contact hitters on my teams and as a result, I usually lead the league in sacrifice flies and also get a lot of runners in off ground balls and singles.
I also play iron-clad defenses, but even then there will be pitcher meltdowns. I usually lead the league in ERA and FIP, but I recently posted here about a game I had in which 11 straight hitters reached base (3 different pitchers) resulting in 8 runs allowed. I thought that was crazy until I found out that the actual major league record is 19. It's baseball. It happens. |

thank you for the reply, I've been continuing to play. I am enjoying it quite a bit. a few things get a little weird, but nothing is perfect.

It's probably that it always feels worse when you are experiencing the frustration of something in a longer term game than when simming it. Also with a shorter sample size you will see deviations like that. You're more emotionally invested in it. I bet if you look at the actual stats it's probably similar over the long haul. But yeah, as a previous poster says pitching has dominated hitting more in recent years, unless you're Ohtani or Judge.

maybe you can help me. there are a couple rules I would like to change.
first is the inherited ghost runner to start extra innings. call me a bit of a purist, just dont like it. second is the use of the bullpen. you cant seem to bring in a pitcher (a lefty specialist for example) for just 1 batter. is it possible to change these rules? |

League Settings. Rules tab. Upper left for both. Ghost runners are the modified Extra Innings rule if it’s unclear.
