Remove the charity storyline

Or at least add an option that does nothing.

Storylines are great fun, I hate having to disable them because of one game-wrecking one.

You can open the html file that houses the storylines and delete that one if you wish or change the consequences of the actions. Open it in Notepad, edit it, resave it.
