That is the most stupid inning I have ever seen.

And I have watched the Mets for 13 years now.

What a collapse

I was watching the WS and all of a sudden the White Sox took the field.

Kudos to Cole though for recovering the clanger by Judge, the horrible throw by Volpe, his own defensive amnesia on the grounder to first, and then getting whacked around - and THEN still getting through the inning and another five outs when all that is expected from pitchers in October these days is to run for their comfort blankets at the first sign of trouble.

I feel absolutely nothing.

The Dodgers were the lesser evil, but it's hard to match the literal Evil Empire in evilness.

If there ever was one, this effectively removes the asterisk from 2020...

I'm now on a two-team streak as a fan: First my Celtics win the title, and now the Dodgers. Not feeling super great about my Dolphins keeping it going, though...

A streak? What's that like?

(For those who forgot, here are my basic fandoms, albeit some with asterisks:

Mets [last title in 1986]
Raiders* [last title in 1983]
Clippers [you're kidding, right?]
Kings [2 in 3 seasons is nice, but not a streak on its own])

Last time somebody I hollered for with fervor won:

Baseball (1986) - I was barely sentient at that time, didn't really care about baseball at 3 months old to be honest
NASCAR (2001) - Jeff Gordon's last title, although I'm an infamous bandwagon hopper; f.e. this year everybody that can slay the beast Logano will be just fine
Soccerball (2004) - last dip for Werder Bremen before they sunk into perpetual irrelevance
F1 (2013) - last of Vettel's four-peat

I can stretch it to 2016 if we let second-tier racing like DTM in, which at the time was still quite the spectacle. 2016 was the second of Marco Wittmann's two titles with BMW. But that's that.

I'm suffering from successlessness.

Their 15 minutes need to be extended in a courtroom and then MLB needs to use this as a teachable moment by banning them both from all MLB parks for life.

This sort of idiocy that could do real harm needs to be nipped in the bud hard.

Low-key hoping for a Jomboy breakdown of that fifth inning from hell. But I doubt he's done crying yet.

Critics are either pointing out the Judge drop or Cole not covering 1st. To me all 3 mistakes were equally important. I thought the SS should have gone for 2 instead of getting the lead runner. If you turn 2, you turn a potential big inning into a so-so one. Maybe LAD gets on the board. Or maybe Cole gets the 3rd out. Either way, you are up 5-0 at the time. One run isn't going to kill you. I know Smoltz thought it was the correct play, but I didn't. The short hop just compounded things.

So Judge touched things off, Volpe turned a small mistake into a big one, then Cole closed the escape route & made it an inning that never ended. Plenty of blame to spread.

Judge and Volpe were both too greedy (Judge looked at the runner and then klopsed* the ball), but Cole just shut off his brains on the grounder, which I somehow find worse. Rizzo looks like he's just outta high school, but he (like Freeman) is actually 35 years old. He's not beating Betts to the bag.

*German for a REALLY clumsy error, and a word that English needs

Ice Cube and Fat Joe are perfect metaphors for this Series. The one with more talent clearly put a lot of thought and preparation into their performance, while the other wandered onto the field and hoped something good would happen.

I liked that one

It took about a year-and-a-half but the full text of the first-ever minor league CBA is finally available. An interesting tidbit is a change to minor league free agency. Previously a player became a minor league free agent after completing 7 seasons of minor league service. Now, it's either 6 or 7 seasons depending on the player's age, and follows the Rule 5 draft age eligibility requirements.

For anyone wondering, here are the player salaries in 2024 for those on their first minor league contract:

AAA = $1,200 per week x 25 weeks
AA = $1,000 per week x 23 weeks
A-H = $900 per week x 22 weeks
A-L = $850 per week x 22 weeks
Rookie = $675 per week x 16 weeks

Players received $625 per week for 4 weeks of spring training. Those participating in off-season training leagues get $625 per week otherwise they receive $250 per week during the off-season. Players in the AFL are paid at the Double-A rate.
